Bush, 90, died Tuesday. Services are pending with People's Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf. Galloway Norman Paul Galloway, 76, Lone Wolf, died Monday at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Private family memorial services are under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf. He was born April 14, 1926, in Salina, Kan. to Paul R. and Goldie Anna (Christensen) Galloway. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Joyce Felty June 14, 1983 in St. Paul, Minn. He retired from the railroad after working there for 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in St. Paul, Minn. He enjoyed fishing, building birdhouses, playing cards and being with his family. He attended the First Christian Church in Lone Wolf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Goldie; two brothers, Russell Galloway and Dick Galloway; one niece, Linda Galloway and one nephew, Kyle Galloway. He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; step-son Richard Galloway and wife Priscilla of Mangum; four step-daughters, Janice Rush and husband Louis of Mangum, Diane Burnett and husband Rob of Altus, Cheryl Graham of Altus and Kim Galloway of Lone Wolf; brother Larry Galloway of Tulsa; two sisters, Darlene Sargent and husband Alfred of Lawton and Goldie Ann Galloway of Montera, Calif.; many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces nephews, cousins and other family members. Spratt Ruth Lovetta Spratt, 89, died Monday at Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus. Friends will be received at the Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters from noon until 1:30 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service at the Walters Cemetery will be at 2 p.m. Thursday under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.In lieu of flowers, contribution can be made to Hospice or the Walters Cemetery Association. She was born March 6, 1913 to Annie Florence and Robert Gaston Mims at Temple. Her family later moved to Walters where she attended school and worked for the telephone company. She married Raymond Austin Spratt on Aug. 18, 1934 at Walters. She continued to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, becoming chief operator at the Walters office. She was later transferred to Duncan where she served as supervisor, retiring Southwestern Bell after 45 years of service. They continued to make their home in Duncan. Her husband preceded her in death in October of 1985. She moved to Altus in June of 2001. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Duncan and the Pioneer Association of Southwestern Bell. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Sally Doughty and her husband Lee, Sonya Reagan and husband Bob, Max Graham and Rae Graham, all of Altus, Mary Lou Smith of Mustang, Sherry Mims Stillwell of Del City, Wendell Smart and wife Billie of Amarillo, Texas, G.L. Smart and wife Penny and Kenneth Smart and wife Charlene, all of Duncan, and Ron Graham and wife Claudia of Rhome, Texas. MAY 2: Wilks Derwood G. Wilks, 82, Altus, died early Thursday morning at the VA Hospital in Clinton. Funeral services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home. MAY 3: Bush James (Jim) Lafayette Bush, 90, died Tuesday at Baptist Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the People's Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf with Terry Smalling officiating. Burial will follow a the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf. He was longtime resident of Altus. He was born to Annie Mary (Weaver) Bush and John James Bush on a farm west of Altus where his father settled in the early 1880s. He graduated from Victory High School. He married Bersye Elizabeth Smalling of Duke. He was a welder who learned the craft by building Liberty ships and amphibious landing vehicles in the San Francisco Bay area during the 1940s. Before serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, he worked in various industries in California, including the Henry J. Kaiser Shipyards, Moore's Drydock Food Machinery Corporation and McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation. After military service, he returned to Altus and worked on a missile silo construction project and the Altus High School Field House. He was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years. He was also a chapter officer and a district officer of Disabled American Veterans. He attended the Benson Street Trinity Baptist Church. After suffering injuries in an automobile accident, he was a resident at the Veteran's Center in Clinton where he served as a member of the resident's council. He is survived by his wife Bersye; children and their spouses, Beverly and Don Barker of Edmond, Janis and Robert Glidewell of Hooker, Elaine and Jerry Donohoe of Evanston, Ill, and Steve and Sandy Bush of Burns Flat; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Trudie Rebecca Bush, Beulah Gear and Hazel Jepson and a brother, Calvin Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. The family will received friends at the family home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Merchant Esther Lila Merchant, 87, died Wednesday at Paris, Texas. A graveside service was held this afternoon at the Lone Star Cemetery in Rocky. The Rev. Sam Studer of Mangum officiated. She was born April 20, 1915 to John Harvey and Lily Mae (Wallis) Merchant. She was a member of the Church of God. During her working years she served as a manager for an apartment complex. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by half brothers Larry Merchant of Anaheim, Calif., Carl Merchant, Long Beach, Calif. and Harvey Jo Merchant, of Weatherford and a nephew, Charles Greb, of Mangum. Wilks Derwood Grant Wilks, 82, long time Altus resident, died Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Clinton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel in Altus with the Rev. Madison Clinton officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born July 9, 1919 in Altus to Ernest and Minnie (Lovett) Wilks. He graduated from Altus High School where he enjoyed playing football. He married Ometta Faye Herring Oct. 12, 1940 in Altus. They moved to Burbank, Calif. where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft from 1940 until 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1945, the Wilks moved back to the family farm in the Friendship community northeast of Altus. He worked for Gilt Edge Dairy until his retirement. He then established W.W. Motor Company where he loved to repair Volkswagen automobiles for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed horseback riding and farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roland Wilks and sister Sydney Ernalea Lee. He is survived by his wife Ometta Faye Wilks, Altus; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Darrell and Jan Wilks, Houston, Texas and Lawrence and Cindy Wilks, Altus; a granddaughter, Shelli Denee Booker and husband Steve; two great-grandchildren, Jaci and Jance Booker and many friends. MAY 5: Davis Douglas Wayne Davis died Thursday in Altus. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 28, 1923 at Hollis to W.E. and Leora (Robinson) Davis. He graduated from Altus High School in 1944. He married Venita Lane, June 4, 1944 in Eldorado. He was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here since 1933. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He began his career in the automotive industry in 1943 with O.L. Phipps and Son. He was associated with Altus Motor Ford which became McPherson Ford and later the Wilmes Ford Auto Mall. He retired in 2000. Survivors include his wife Venita Davis of Altus; son Doug Davis of Altus; brother James H. Davis of Tucson, Ariz; and sister Bette Churchwell of Blair. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Wesley Davis. The family will greet friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p. Sunday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of Wayne Davis may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Foundation. Heffel Betty Jo Heffel died Wednesday of heart failure in Nashville, Tenn. Services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Mangum. The Rev. Bob Evans and the Rev. Jimmy Pitson officiated. Burial followed at the Riverside Cemetery. She was born June 21, 1923 in Granite to Francis and William (Bill) Moon. She graduated from Brinkman High School in 1941 and attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She later graduated from Southwestern College at Weatherford where she earned her masters degree. She married Harvey Heffel on Sept. 13, 1942. Toward the end of World War II they moved back to Oklahoma where they both worked for Phillips 66 in Bartlesville. Two years later they moved to Hitchcock. The moved back to Greer County in 1947. They made a home on a farm at Jaybuckle Springs. They then moved their home to Mangum where she worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for James MacRobert, DDS. She later worked as a secretary for extension agents Bud Barnes and Lois DeMond. She then became a teacher. She taught social studies at Altus High School for 12 years. She was actively involved in church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes. She and her husband were members of the Good Samaritan Travelers Club. She and her husband moved to Nashville in 1996. They became actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Franklin. They later moved to Nashville to be close to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They joined the Woodmont Baptist Church where she taught a women's Sunday School class. Her husband died in September, 2000. She then spent time with friends and at the Nashville Women's Club. She is survived by two sons and their families, Jerry, Sonnie, April and Andy Heffel of Brentwood, Tenn. and Jimmy, Janie, Rick and Rob Heffel of Euless, Texas; a niece, Linda Moore of Oklahoma City, nephew, Larry Warren of Abilene, Texas and their families and many friends. Woodman "Charlie" Eugene Woodman, a life long resident of Gould, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus at the age of 89. Services were held Saturday at the Gould Methodist Church. The Rev. Dee Willis officiated. Interment followed at the Gould Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 21, 1912 to Jennie Morris Woodman and Roy Albert Woodman in Gould. He married Ollie Kellar Woodman in 1972. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He served in the infantry, participating in both the North African and Italian Campaign. He was active in the American Legion and was a member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed horse racing and traveling with friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Hughes Woodman, his parents and brothers, Jack Woodman and E.O. "Jelly" Woodman. He is survived by his wife Ollie of Gould; sons Roy Woodman of Iowa Park, Texas, and Albert Woodman of Electra, Texas, Breant Woodman; daughters Charlene St. Laurent of Charlottsville, Va. and Hellen Bailey of Omaha, Texas; step-children, Linda Baird, Jackie Shaddix, and Clifford Hooper; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Woodman Fred L. "Freddy" Woodman, 44, died Friday in Chickasha. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Gould Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Gould Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Services, Hollis. He was born April 21, 1958 in Altus to Charles and Judy Jones Woodman. He worked as a parts man for Livingston Machinery in Chickasha for the past eight years. He lived in Harmon County for the first 36 years of his life working as a farmer and for Harmon County for 17 years. He married Katy Vanlandingham in Gould on March 27, 1981. He was an active member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Katy; sons Evan, Randy and James, all of the home; sister Sharon Livingston and husband Earl of Chickasha; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Woodman and Judy Jones Woodman. Young LaRue Young, 66, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Services were held Saturday at the Stewart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Parker officiating. Burial was to follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Services. She was born in Hollis on Sept. 3, 1935 to Ed and Varea Clements Masters. She graduated from Hollis High School and worked as a hairdresser, waitress and cook. She married Kenneth Young. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed spending time with her dog Bingo and listening to Elvis Presley music. She is survived by two children, Debbie Baker and husband Nolan and Mike Young and wife Melinda, all of Hollis; brother Eddie Masters and wife Mary of San Antonio, Texas; four grandsons, Bryan, Raymond, Dallas and Nolan III; four granddaughters, Patti, Kristine, Joyce and Barbie; and five great-grandchildren, Carson, Abigail, Emily, Joseph and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Varea Masters and one brother, Glynn Dale Masters. MAY 7: Hartless Maxine Freeman Hartless, 69, Eldorado, died early Sunday at the Shannon Memorial Hospital In San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Eldorado Church of Christ with Bill Osborne officiating. Intement will follow a the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. She was born Nov. 20, 1932 in Eldorado to William Early and Bessie Lee (Myers) Freeman. She graduated high school at Eldorado in 1950. She then attended Abilene Christian College and Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she studied music with an emphasis on piano. She enjoyed handcrafts like crocheting, quilting, leatherwork, knitting and sewing. Her passion was the piano. She was a member of the Eldorado Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by daughter Patricia Vasquez, San Angelo, Texas; son Mike Hartless and wife Chris of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Christina Solis, Sterling City, Texas, Melissa Hartless, Oklahoma City, and Jason Hartless, Ft. Drum, New York; and one great grandchild, Tony Flores. Hukill Vada Helen Hukill, 70, died May 6 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Chirst in Mangum with Eddie Beard and Roger Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service. She was born Jan. 27, 1932 in Russell to Chester H. and Ada (Day) Anderson, and grew up in the Duke area where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. She married Gerald Hukill in Wellington, Texas in 1948. She lived in the Los Angeles, California area for approximately ten years and worked as an executive secretary for Douglas Aircraft. She was the Kiwanis Club Princess in a major Los Angeles parade and beauty pageant. In Mangum, she developed a life-long love for antiques. She and her husband moved back to Mangum in 1963 and were the owners of Hukill's Antiques since 1965. She was a member of the Mangum Church of Christ, former member of the Garden Club and the Mangum Bowling League. She loved gardening, fishing, travel, cats, spending time with her family and was happiest when hosting large family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother C.N. Anderson. Survivors include her husband, daughter Donna Jordan and husband Dan of Calvert, Texas; son J.P. Hukill and wife Susan of Okay; and adopted grandson Sasa Mutic and wife Jada of St. Louis, Missouri. Jantz Dewey Jantz, 88, Hobart, died at Elkview General Hospital. on Sunday. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hobart Church of Christ with David Ridenour officiating. Burial will be at the Hobart Rose Cemetery under the direction of Hackney-Gish Funeral Home of Hobart. He was born May 9, 1913, in Marion County, Kan. to Jacob Peter and Edith (Voth) Jantz. He attended school in Kiowa County and married Frances Willoughby on Aug. 3, 1935 at Cordell. He farmed and operated Rainy Mountain Dairy for many years. He was a charter member of the Wichita Mountains Rock Club and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a gunsmith and had worked several years f or Oaks Irrigation Co.. Survivors include three sons and wives, Arthur and Janice Jantz of Altus, Jerry and Marilyn Jantz, Ponca City and Kenny and Venice Jantz of Davis; seven grandchildren, Katrina Jouett of Lubbock, Texas, Jeffrey Jantz, Albuquerque, N. M., Shanna Kemp of Austin, Texas, Gregory Jantz of Wichita, Kan., Michelle Seeliger of Perry, Kenda Jantz and Brett Jantz, both of Davis; six great grandchildren; a brother, Doyle Jantz of Chickasha; and a sister, Bertha Smith of Chickasha. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers. MAY 8: Lighty Richard S. "Hoss" Lighty, 48, Altus, died Sunday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. A memorial service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cliff Harper officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born May 20, 1953 in Peru, Ind. to Clarence and Barbara Minns Lighty. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He then attended Tulsa University on the GI Bill. He worked in the oil industry as a tool pusher and swabber. He also worked in automobile repossession. He married Christina Upton on April 5, 1990 in Altus. He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially vacationing with his children and collecting hot wheels and Harley Davidson memorabilia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Randall Milton Lighty and William Gregory Lighty. He is survived by his wife, Christina of the home; his parents, Barbara Minns of Altus and Clarence Lighty of Peru, Ind.; his daughter, Victoria Lighty of Crescent; five sons, Richard Lighty, Jr. of Lexington, Clarence "Pete" Lighty of Cushing, Nathan Lighty of Crescent, Shane Lighty of Altus and Cody Garlett of Dover; three sisters, Krista Karns of Montana, Tonia Lighty and Bobby Harris, all of Altus; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Joe Dodson. He was born Oct. 22, 1917 in Coal County to Archie and Mamie Evans Morrison. He married Ruby Anderson April 11, 1936 in Coalgate. She preceded him in death in February of 1985. In May of 1987 he married Leona Rotenberry. She died in October of 1997. He resided in Jackson County for 52 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one son, Keith; two brothers and four grandchildren. Romines Mackie Romines, 75, formerly of Altus, died Saturday at the Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 28, 1927 in Tupelo to Mack and Estelle Hadlock Romines. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Geraldine "Gerry" Blackburn on Aug. 20, 1951 in Kingsberg, Calif. He was a longtime Altus resident and member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. He worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years for Halliburton, R.D. Walker, and Ray Bell and Co. of Arnett. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football. He enjoyed spending time with his family and listening to and singing church music. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years; his parents; a brother, Paul Romines; three half-brothers, Beecher, John and Henry Romines and three half-sisters, Meadie Thompson, Mandy Griffin and Nannie Knight. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma for three years. After attending college she moved to Moore. She was an avid painter, seamstress, costume designer and enjoyed cooking. She attended the First Baptist Church in Altus for many years. She is survived by her companion for more than seven years, Russ Austin of the home in Moore; her mother, Helen McClure of Altus; three children, Eric Key, Misty Key, both of Oklahoma City, and Christie Wilson and husband Todd of Haileyville; two brothers, Clayton McClure of Lufkin, Texas and Dwayne McClure of Spokane, Wash.; sister Darla Key of Granbury, Texas and four grandchildren, Donivan Holmes, Taya Holmes, Damien Wilson and Michael Smith. Poteet Nolan Adrian Poteet, 71, Mangum, died early Thursday in his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Mangum. He attended school in Sammorwood, Texas graduating in 1948. He attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas on a basketball scholarship. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. He coached and taught at Memphis, Texas from 1953 until 1957, at Panhandle, Texas from 1959 until 1961 and 1966 until 1969 and in Mangum from 1980 until 1995. He coached basketball, baseball and football and taught social studies. He also played semi-pro baseball in the summers of 1954 through 1958. While at Panhandle, he served on the board of directors of the local farm cooperative, was elected to the board of directors of the water conservation district, served on the board of directors for the Tri-State High School Rodeo Association, and volunteered as an adult leader with the local district and 4-H organization. He was also a member of the First Christian Church, serving as deacon and as president of the church board. He was the director of the Texas Tech bull testing program in Amarillo from 1972 until 1977. He farmed and ranched in Panhandle and Colbran, Colo. His hobbies included flying, roping and other sports. Survivors include his wife Judy; daughter Sandy of Canadian, Texas; son Larry and daughter Susan of Panhandle; son Capt Ryan Morgan of Clarksville, Tenn. and daughter Sunni of the home; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Frances Poteet; brother Doug Poteet and daughter Cindy Poteet Smith. The family requests memorial be made to the Dozier Cemetery. Griffin Services for Patrick Riley Griffin, 62, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fifth Street Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was born to Billie and Ella Griffin June 27, 1939 in Oklahoma City. He attended school at Weatherford and Clinton and graduated from Weatherford High School. He played football at Southwestern State College. He obtained a bachelor of science degree in education and a masters degree in counseling. He continued his administrative education at the University of Oklahoma. He was teacher at both Clinton and Altus. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1968. He worked at Avery Head Start shortly after becoming a guidance counselor at Northwest Classen and Southeast high schools. He was an assistant principal at Southeast., Northwest, Douglass, and U.S. Grant high schools. His hobbies were fishing and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Billie Jean and brothers David, Stanley and Ruben. Sikora Louise Theresa Sikora, 83, Altus, died Saturday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born July 3, 1918 in Chicago, Ill. to Peter and Francis Daluga. She was on the Dean's Distinguished List of Students, a member of the Literary Sorority, Chi Delta Phi, and the Christian sorority, Pi Epsilon Alpha. She received her teaching certificate in May, 1931. In 1932, she began teaching seventh grade English at Blair School. During more than 40-year teaching career, she taught in Blair, Headrick, Ozark, Glenpool, Jefferson, Warren, Fort Cobb, Martha and Altus. She taught junior high English in Altus from 1956 until 1973 when she retired. She married Julian Francis (J.F.) McNeeley on Aug. 27, 1937 in Blair. They had one son, Julian Paul McNeely. She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Altus, the United Methodist Women and the Altus Garden Club. After her husband's death in 1980, she moved to Oklahoma City in 1985 to be near her son. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Orlando McWhorter and Mary Rebecca Meek; her husband; brothers, Burrow David McWhorter, John Roland McWhorter, Paul McWhorter; sisters, Rub Hawkins and Madge Jones. Speck Morris Speck, 78, Altus, died Tuesday morning. Services are pending at Kincannon Funeral Home. Nall Durlene Wilson Nall, 72, died April 18 at Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, Calf. Interment was at Victor Valley Memorial Gardens, Victor Valley, Calif. April 23. She was born Sept. 17, 1929. She was reared in Willow, Mangum and Altus. She attended Oklahoma State University and Southwestern State College at Weatherford receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. She completed her Master of Arts Degree in School Administration at the University of Redlands, Redlands, Calif. She taught four years in the public school systems. She then accepted a position as a probation officer with the San Bernardino County, Calif., justice system. She attended Boalt Hall School of Law at Berkely, Calif and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of California. She became the first female deputy city attorney for the city of Fresno. She helped to open the first half-way house in Fresno. She later accepted a position as deputy county attorney for San Bernardino County and later became the assistant city attorney at Torrance. She then established a private practice in Victorville. She was preceded in death by her father, A.D. Wilson, her mother, Lola Wilson Lillard, sisters Lanell, Boston, Mass. and Charlie Mae, Albuquerque, N. M. and her son, Lance Nall. She is survived by sister Monique Jackie Ruth; daughter Lana Richards, four grandchildren, Dana, Ashley, Ryan and Lance; two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Lexi. She was known as Bea to her many friends. At a young age, she and her family moved to Bethany where she went to school and grew up. She attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany and taught school briefly. She began working in a shoe store in downtown Oklahoma City where she met her future husband who was working in another shoe store. She married Alton G. Hardy on June 14, 1947 in Oklahoma City. In 1951 they moved with their two children, Don and Gwen, to Altus to open their first restaurant on North Main Street. They had a third child, Jo Ann, in 1953. They owned and operated a restaurant in Altus 27 years. They were known for their fried chicken and homemade pies. She cooked fresh pies every day. In 1978 they closed the restaurant and retired from the business. She was a cook for Altus schools from 1978 until 1991. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where they were still members at the time of her death. She was a Sunday School teacher until she became ill last October. She enjoyed studying the Bible and listening to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Eula Mae Dennis, Lucille Garrison and Louvee Montooth; five brothers, Clyde Garrison, Morris Garrison, Harrell Garrison, Harry Garrison and Ralph Garrison. Speck Morris J. Speck, 78, of Altus, died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Altus with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead and Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. He was born April 13, 1924 at Prairie Hill to Flossie Marie (Kaufman) and Burr Speck. His family moved to Altus in 1928 where he graduated from Altus High School and Altus Junior College. He entered officer training school in Vera Beach, Fla. and was commissioned in 1944 as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He married Cornelia Byars of Vernon, Texas on Sept. 2, 1944. He flew Hellcat Fighters aboard the aircraft carrier Kyla Gulf in the South Pacific during World War II. He later served in the Korean War for two years and was stationed on Guam. He retired as a lieutenant commander in 1969. From 1948 until 1972, he and his family lived in Fort Worth, Texas where he worked as an air officer for the Dallas region of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 24-year member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. He joined the First Baptist Church in 1972 when he returned to Altus. He married Lamoin (Washburn) Beckner in 1973. He served in both the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church, both of Altus. He ministered to jails, prisoners and halfway houses in the Altus area. Many law enforcement officials endorsed and supported his ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucille Speck and Mildred (Ludrick Benson. She was born to James and Cynthia Garrison Sept. 26, 1920 at Hugo. She was known as Bea to her many friends. At a young age, she and her family moved to Bethany where she went to school and grew up. She attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany and taught school briefly. She began working in a shoe store in downtown Oklahoma City where she met her future husband who was working in another shoe store. She married Alton G. Hardy on June 14, 1947 in Oklahoma City. In 1951 they moved with their two children, Don and Gwen, to Altus to open their first restaurant on North Main Street. They had a third child, Jo Ann in 1953. They owned and operated a restaurant in Altus for 27 years. They were known for their fried chicken and home-made pies. She cooked fresh pies every day. In 1978 they closed the restaurant and retired from their business. She was cook for Altus schools from 1978 until 1991. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where they were still members at the time of her death. She was a Sunday School teacher until she became ill last October. She enjoyed studying the Bible and listening to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Eula Mae Dennis, Lucille Garrison and Louvee Montooth; five brothers, Clyde Garrison, Morris Garrison, Harrell Garrison, Harry Garrison and Ralph Garrison. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, two brothers and a sister. Speck Morris J. Speck, 78, of Altus, died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Memorial services were held this afternoon at the First Baptist Church of Altus. The Rev. Boyd Whitehead and Dr. Jeff Moore officiated. He was born April 13, 1924 at Prairie Hill to Flossie Marie (Kaufman) and Burr Speck. His family moved to Altus in 1928 where he graduated from Altus High School and Altus Junior College. He entered officer training school in Vera Beach, Fla. and was commissioned in 1944 as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He married Cornelia Byars of Vernon, Texas on Sept. 2, 1944. He flew Hellcat Fighters aboard the aircraft carrier Kyla Gulf in the South Pacific during World War II. He later served in the Korean War for two years and was stationed on Guam. He retired as a lieutenant commander in 1969. From 1948 until 1972, he and his family lived in Fort Worth, Texas where he worked as an air officer for the Dallas region of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 24-year member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. He joined the First Baptist Church in 1972 when he returned to Altus. He married Lamoin (Washburn) Buckner in 1973. He served in both the Emmanuel Baptist and First Baptist Church in Altus. He ministered to jails, prisoners and halfway houses in the Altus area. Many law enforcement officials endorsed and supported his ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucille Speck and Mildred (Ludrick) Benson. He was a private insurance investigator, retiring in 1981. He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army. He was born June 4, 1932 in Pilot Point, Texas to John and Allie (Witt) Moore. He attended school in Snyder. He worked for Whites Department Store in Altus until they closed, and then for Yates Implement Company until his retirement at the age of 62. He had been a member of the Southside Baptist Church for several years and was currently a member of the Victory Baptist Church. He resided at Plantation Village Nursing Home, but was still able to attend his church. His hobbies included drawing, walking, church activities and helping other people. He retired after 20 years with the United States Air Force with the rank of technical sergeant. He served during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Tecumseh Products for 13 years and later worked part time for M and W Gas Company. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Plantersville where he served as a deacon. She enjoyed church activities, cooking, spending time with her family and visiting with friends. She and her husband were married 60 years Oct, 10, 1999. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1999. Pruitt Hurshel Pruitt died Thursday in Tulsa at the age of 86. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Heath Memorial Chapel. He served in the United States Army from 1934 until 1938 in the 21st Infantry Division. He received three medals for marksmanship. He was recalled to active duty when World War II began and served until 1945. He worked as a carpenter for the United States Air Force at Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base until its closing. He was then transferred to David Moffett Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., where he later retired. He enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, playing cards and dominoes with friends. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. He is survived by wife Floye: daughters Charlotte Herndon and Grace Lee Lantz; sons Hurshel Leon, Tommy Ray, Kenneth Earl, Larry Alvis and Charley Wesley; 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Mona Boyd and husband Robert of Duke and Carole Yarbrough and husband Parker of Gainesville, Texas; son Richie Heidenreich and wife Debbi of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Ramona McGinnis of Lone Wolf, Ova Williams of Sunny Vale, Calif. and Mary Ethel Pollard of Tecumseh; two brothers, Lawton Smith of Lone Wolf and Don Smith of Cordell; six grandchildren, Doctors Chimene (Willis) Fikkert and husband Arnold Fikkert of Mansfield, Texas, Cody Boyd and wife Lacy of Duke, Shane Willis of Los Angeles, Calif, Trey Heidenreich, Tiffany Heidenreich and Tyler Heidenreich, all of Fort Worth, Texas and great-grandson Colten Boyd of Duke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Duke, Box 128, Duke, Ok, 73532. High Billy Jermaine High, 29, of Brunswick, Ga. and formally of Altus, died May 23 in his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Harris of Sunset Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 7, 1973, in Altus to Ramona (High) King and Billy Williams. He attended Altus schools and Glenn Academy in Brunswick, Ga.. He enjoyed writing music, drawing and working on cars. He is survived by his mother Ramona King of Brunswick, Ga.; step-father David King of Brunswick, Ga.; father Billy Williams of Mitchville, Md; four children, Reginald, Tamesha, Jacqueline and Marquis, all of Brunswick, Ga.; five brothers, Orlando, Marcus and David Jr., all of Brunswick, Ga., Toby Williams of Altus and Tevin Williams of Mitchville, Md.; maternal grandmother Novella Richardson of Altus; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Thurmond Henrietta Thurmond, Altus, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home. MAY 31: Harkins Jeffery Blake Harkins, died Thursday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Bill Osborne and T.J. Willingham will officiate. Burial will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Joe and Linda Harkins, of Altus. Mitchell Donald Mitchell died Thursday. Services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
