Jackson Co. OK - Altus Times - Sept 2000 Altus Times September 2000 obituaries Alsup Arnie Alsup, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Grace Living Center in Mangum. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum with the Rev. Everett Smalts and the Rev. John Robles officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum. Alsup was born Oct. 25, 1902, in Buda, Texas, to Albert and Lillie (Jones) Leath. She moved from Texas to Oklahoma as a small child in a covered wagon the night before statehood. After locating other family members, the family settled in the Russell Community. She graduated from Centralvue School in 1922, and later attended Central State College. She taught at the Wildcat School on an emergency certificate in 1922 and 23. She married Virgil Lee Alsup on Dec. 11, 1924, at Altus. They made their home in the Russell Community and moved to their family farm in 1942. She worked for many years hanging wallpaper and painting for others. She was very active in civic club works, working with the Home and Community Education Clubs, A.A.R.P., county fair exhibits, and for many years she has bee a supporter of the local 4-H Club. She also enjoyed following the Duke High School basketball teams. She was a member of the Russell Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Alsup was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dudley Leath and Jack Leath. Survivors include: her daughter, Linda Burcham and her husband Bill of Reed; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and her sister, Faye Weiseth of Eugene, Ore. A memorial fund has been set up at Great Plains National Bank at Mangum to help build a new exhibit building at the Greer County Fairgrounds. Ballou Opal Ballou, 92, longtime Jackson County resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Kincannon Chapel in Altus with Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Odema Cemetery near Eldorado, under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Ballou was born Oct. 8, 1907, in Eldorado, to John and Susie (McDonald) Brock. She attended school in Odell, Texas. She married Albert Ballou on Sept. 28, 1924, in Vernon, Texas. Ballou was a homemaker, worked on the family farm and was a waitress in the 1950's and 60's. She was a member of the Primative Baptist Church in Eldorado. Her hobbies included cooking and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1964; a daughter Wanda Faye Ballou; two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include: three daughters, Stella Critchfield, Lillie Clendennen and Doris Wright, all of Altus; a son, Gail Ballou of Lubbock, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Bryant Arllie May Bryant, 93, died at Grace Living Center in Altus on Sunday, September 24, 2000. Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Mrs. Bryant was born on January 20, 1907 to Walter and Mattie Compton Ellis, in Bonham, Texas. In December 1916 she moved with her family to Jackson County, Oklahoma where she lived most of the time. She attended schools in Olustee, Prairie Home, Plainview and Ozark. She and Norm H. Lindsey were married on January 18, 1925. She was saved in a summer revival in 1924 at Carmel Baptist Church near Olustee. She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church until her health failed. In 1953 she married Sol Bryant. He passed away April 9, 1965. Mrs. Bryant was a charter member of AARP in Altus. She has had many hobbies during her life. She loved her family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Norma in 1943. Also a brother Hollie Ellis and sister Callie Miller and granddaughter Patricia Ann Hamilton. She is survived by; one son, Harold Lindsey of Garland, Texas, three daughters, Norene Hamilton of Lawton, Oklahoma, Florence Brewer and husband Howard of Altus, Oklahoma, and Marilyn Wooley of Garland, Texas, stepdaughter Sylvia Colonello of Escondido, California, and stepson G.L. Bryant of LaQuinta, California; also nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, twelve stop great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Jeff Ellis of Tucumcari, New Mexico, three sisters, Perallie Powers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nellie Hudson of Riverside, California, and Annie Coward of Mena, Arkansas, and a host of other relatives and friends. Chavez Joe Richard Chavez, 41, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home. Chavez was born Nov. 26, 1958, in Guymon, to Robert and Antonia (Viasana) Chavez. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. Corrigan Elmer Leroy Corrigan died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services are pending with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Crabb Opal Crabb, 95, died Saturday at Olustee. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gould Cemetery with James Frank Mitchell, pastor of the Olustee United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends will gather at the Stewart Funeral Service, at 9 a.m. Tuesday before the service. Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Hughes and Lowetta Chumley both of Pampa, Texas and Virginia Hays of Olustee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Crockett Etoy Calvin Crockett, 72, died Tuesday at her residence in Vernon following a brief illness. Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the New Hope Baptist Church of Vernon with the Rev. E.J. Tyson, pastor officiating. Burial will be at the Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. He was born Aug. 5, 1928 in Granger, Texas to Bennie and Courtney Ann Veals Calvin. She married Jefferson Crockett on July 28, 1947 in Vernon. She was a resident of Vernon since 1941. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and a supervisor at the North Texas State Hospital, Vernon campus. Survivors include her husband, Jefferson of Vernon; three sons, Jefferson Crockett, Jr., Robert V. Crockett and James Christopher Crockett all of Vernon, Texas; a sister, Helen Edwards of Altus; two grandchildren. Dean Sudie McPherson Dean, 100, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Memorial Park in Altus. Interment will follow under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview. A daughter of A.R. and Ada Spraggins McPherson, she was born May 1, 1900, in Howe, Texas. She moved with her family to Altus in 1916. After attending business school in Altus, she worked as a legal secretary in the Jackson County Courthouse for 18 years. Later, she moved to California with her husband, Kirby Dean, where they lived until 1962. They moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, and she worked as the secretary of the church office of the Tenth and Broad Church of Christ, where she was a member. Her husband preceded her in death in 1967. Survivors include: two nephews, Roy E. McPherson, Graham, Texas, and J.C. McPherson of Dallas; a great nephew, Erich McPherson of Tulsa; a great niece, Patricia J. Goodlow Haywood Goodlow, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Broughton officiating. Interment will follow at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Goodlow was born Jan. 5, 1926, at Fort Smith, Ark., to Ernest and Arlilia (Gilbert) Goodlow. He worked for Murray Williams for many years and later at the Altus Cotton Compress and then at Western Oklahoma State College for 18 years. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Eddie Goodlow of Norfolk, Va. and Tommy Goodlow, Altus; one daughter, Warrenlene Morgan, Altus; two sisters, Tessie Johnson and Mary Compton, both of Lawton; one stepson, Almondo Wallace, San Diego, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Anita White, Altus; four brothers-in-law, Albert Patterson, Lamar (Sonny) Patterson, Elijah McKeaver and Milton Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Vorice Washington and Jessie Goodlow; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many other family members and friends. Haley Frances Ellen (Williams) Haley, 93, Cooperton, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held today at Hackney-Gish Funeral Chapel in Hobart with the Rev. Everett Smalts officiating. Burial followed at Hobart's Rose Cemetery under the direction of Hackney-Gish Funeral Home. Haley was born Dec. 9, 1906, in Roper, Kan., to Daniel Boone and Sadie Lamb (Jester) Williams. She married Dan Louis Haley, Jr., in October of 1921, in Lawton. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was a rancher and homemaker and a member of the Cooperton First Christian Church. She moved to Cooperton as a child in 1907 and lived there all of her life, with the exception of one year in New Mexico. Haley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Loretta Rae VonTungeln in 1994, an infant son Billy, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: a son, Jack Dan Haley of Cooperton; a daughter, Lily Deen Runividge of Altus; three grandchildren, Sheryl Ellis of Dallas, Louis VonTungeln and Kevin R. VonTungeln, both of Altus; six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Hancock Dr. James W. (Jay) Hancock died Sept. 8, 2000, following a very short illness. Funeral services were held at the Falconhead Chapel, west of Marietta, on Sept. 11, 2000. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City. Hancock was the son of William (Bill) and Elsie Hancock. He was born in Mounds on Nov. 15, 1924. He graduated from Altus High School in 1942. The family then moved to Oklahoma City. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the 10th Combat Cargo in the China-Burma-India Theater from 1943 until 1946. He met his bride, Betty Hinchee, attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford and attended Chicago College of Optometry, graduating in 1953. He practiced in Wynnewood and Wewoka, before establishing his long-term practice in Yukon, from which he retired in 1985. He and his wife retired to Falconhead where he enjoyed golf. Hancock was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Survivors include: his wife Betty; a daughter, Michelle (Mickey) O'Dell, Burke, Va. and her husband Col. Allen O'Dell; three grandchildren, Brian Jones of Fort Bragg, N.C., Deborah and her husband Dallas Gusan and Richelle and her husband Mike Mayzak, all of Yukon; two step-grandchildren, Michael and Chuck O'Dell; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Hillary Gusan and Hannah and Emma Mayzak. The family requests that memorials be made to the Bank of Oklahoma, in care of the Jay Hancock Memorial Fund, where a scholarship fund for senior wrestlers at Yukon High School has been established in his honor. Heffel Harvey A. Heffel, 82, died Sept. 23, 2000 of congestive heart failure in his Nashville, TN home. Services were today at the First Baptist Church in Mangum with Dr. Ray Sikes officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements were with Greer Funeral Home in Mangum. Heffel was born Feb. 3, 1918 near Okeene to Mary and David Heffel. He graduated from Southwestern Teacher's College at Weatherford where he was a National AAU wrestling champion in 1939. His first teaching assignment was in Willow. While in Greer County he met Betty Moon and they married in 1942. Their first home was at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. during WWII. After the war they moved to Hitchcock where he served as a principal. Later they moved to Cheyene Valley where he served as school superintendent. In 1947 the family moved to Reed where he was a teacher, principal, and coach until becoming a U.S. rural mail carrier. For many years he coached Mangum Little League baseball and had a district winning team. After thirty years of carrier service, he retired and continued to farm and raise cattle in the Reed community. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his church. He served as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent, as well as a teacher at the First Baptist Church in Mangum. Prior to that, he was choir leader and Sunday School teacher at Reed Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gideons International, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and a District Commander in the American Legion. He and his wife were members of the Good Samaritan Travelers Club. In 1996 he and his wife moved to Nashville to be near family where they were members of the First Baptist Church in Franklin. He is survived by his wife Betty of the home, two sons and their families, Jerry, Sonnie, April and Andy of Brentwood, TN, and Jimmy, Janie, of Euless, Texas, rick of Dallas, and Rob of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by two brothers, Otto Heffel of Okeene, and Wesley Heffel of Hitchcock; a sister Irene Reisdorf of Tucson, AZ and their families. He leaves many old friends in Greer County and many new friends in Nashville, TN. Herring On Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, Anna Madelon Inzer Herring passed from this life in the presence of her daughters. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Berry Worcester officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Born June 24, 1920, the fourth child of Eugene Franklin and Blanche Bell Inzer in Altus, Herring attended Altus Schools and graduated rom high school in 1938. She married Raymond Leslie "Buck" Herring on March 19, 1939. While raising a family, she served as the piano accompanist for Evelyn Brooks School of Dance, followed by Neil Hutton School of Dance, Jenna Burke's Dance School. She also taught at Jack 'n Jill Play School, Jim Dandy Kindergarten and Grace Day Kindergarten. After devoting years to raising three children, she returned to Altus Junior College in 1957 and obtained an elementary teaching degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State College. Retiring in 1988, her professional career included teaching fourth grade at Eugene Field and fifth grade at L. Mendel Rivers Elementary. Her exceptional sense of humor and love of others inspired and touched countless lives. Active in the First Christian Church and choir throughout her life, she also enjoyed biking, swimming, skating, dancing, playing the piano and her friends. Other than church organizations, her primary interests included garden, bridge and mother's clubs. Known as "Moomie" among the younger set, she occupied her final years enjoying family and friends. Family members preceding her in death include her mother and father; a brother, Eugene Orin Inzer; a sister, Esteen Roberts; step-mother, Clara Southall Carter Inzer and her husband in 1985. Surviving brothers include: Garland Inzer and wife Fern of Oklahoma City, Leon "Buster" Inzer of Seal Beach, Calif. and C.W. Inzer of Dallas, Texas. Jones Rachel Mae Jones, 95, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard and Roger Todd officiating. Interment will follow in the White Flat Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum. Jones was born Nov. 26, 1904, in a log cabin near McMannville, Tenn. At the age of nine months, she came with her parents to the Mangum area, settling in the White Flat Community. Three years later, the family returned to Tennessee. She began her first year of school in a one room school house. The family returned to Mangum in 1914. Jones was 15 when her mother died, and she being the oldest of eight children, tried to make a home for her siblings. The family moved to Clayton, N.M. and she graduated from high school there. She worked in the Douglas Defense Plant in Oklahoma City during World War II. SHe felt that with three other family members serving in the Army, she wanted to do her part. She served as the secretary of the White Flat Community. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include: two brothers, L.D. Jones of Amarillo, Texas and Charles Jones of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Hazel Saxton of Leawood, Kan. and many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. Luna Jesus Luna, 42, of Hollis, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Harmon Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Hollis with the Rev. Luna was born Dec. 24, 1957, to Inez and Henrietta (Rivera) Luna, in Robstown, Texas. He moved to Hollis with his family in 1963. Luna was preceded in death by his father, Inez Luna. Mason was born April 19, 1943, in Chichasha, to James Herman and Willie Mae (Chastain) Sanders. She married Jodie Don Mason on April 26, 1972. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Altus for the past six years, moving here from Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Rita Kay and five brothers. He married Lola B. Hendricks in Hollis in 1935. He was a farmer and rancher, a mechanic and operated Masters' Dozer Service for 50 years. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 29, 1922 in Tishomingo to Hattan and Belle (Johnson) Allen. She attended school at Ozark and graduated from Warren High School. She married Granvle Norton Sept. 14, 1945 in Vernon, Texas. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and retired after 32 years of service as a group chief operator. She was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers, the Good Sams and the Thomas Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing basketball while in school and was a big fan of the WNBA. She also enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Granvle; two brothers, Willard and Herman Allen; and a sister, Lona Inklebarger. Family visitation will be Sept. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Parrish was born June 9, 1927 in Corning, Arkansas to Ida (Snodgrass) Parrish and Grady Ellison Parrish. He moved to Altus with his family in 1928. He attended Altus Schools until enlisting in the Navy in 1943. He was stationed in Diego and the Phillipine Islands. After World War II he joined the 82nd Airborne stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. Following his discharge he was with the Oklahoma National Guard as Supply Sargent for the 245th Heavy Tank Battalion 45th Division. He went to Korea with the 45th and joined the 10th Ranger Infantry Airborne in Japan, then went back to the 245th after the unit was disbanded. He was in Korea and Japan from 1950 to 1952. He married JoAnn Ryan on May 6, 1949 in Vernon, Texas. He attended Okmulgee Tech. from 1953 to 1954. He worked in Altus as an electrician for many years until he retired. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Jim Parish and Dan Parrish, and one sister Elsie (Parrish) Warren. He is survived by three daughters, Ronda Parrish and Robby Dart of Oklahoma City, Andrea Smith and husband Randy of Altus, Tracy Harris and husband Cliff of Sacramento, CA; three sons Stuart Parrish of Oklahoma City, Matt Parrish and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, Jeff Parrish of Altus, and Jo Ann (Ryan) Parrish of Altus; two sisters Anna Lee Hunt and husband Charley of Chickasha, Theda Berry and husband Ervin of Prescott, AZ; six grandchildren, Rachel Hudgens, Alishia Parrish, Starla Parrish, Casey Smith, Nikki Smith and Renae Ross, one great grandchild, Jayde Hudgens, one sister-in-law Dorothy Parrish, one niece and six nephews. Peet Funeral services for Lloyd Ed Peet, 82, of Frederick, are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Starr officiating. He was born Aug. 19, 1918, southwest of Hobart in Kiowa County, to Jenness Ray (J.R.) and Bertha Grace Dempsey Peet. He married Anna Louise Davis on March 22, 1936, in Cordell. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1979. He was self employed and owned Peet's Starter and Generator Service. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Peet was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers, Charlie, Willie, Roy and Lee Peet. Survivors include: Mike Peet of Frederick; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Howard King of Altus; three grandchildren, Mark Allan Peet, Jay Peet and Kandy Goforth and one great granddaughter, Ashton Nichole Goforth. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. Perez Bibian M. Perez, 76, Hereford, Texas, died Sept. 17, 2000, at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors of Hereford. Perez was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Mission, Texas, to Rafael and Concepcion Perez. He moved to Hereford in 1963. He married Maria Irene Martinez on April 15, 1977, in Clovis, N.M. Prior to retiring, he was employed at Caviness Meat Packing for two years, Armour Meat Packing for 10 years and Southwest Feedyard for three years. Survivors include: his wife Maria Perez of the home; four daughters, Juanita Escamilla and Maribel Claudio, both of Hereford, Viviana Guerrero of Dallas and Beatrice Gonzales of Dublin, Texas; one step daughter, Maria Diaz of Hereford; two step sons, Emilio Martinez and Pedro Martinez, both of Hereford; three brothers, Rafael Perez of Robstown, Texas, Robert Perez and Porforio Perez, both of American Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Raquel Garcia of Mission, Texas, and Juanita Garcia, Altus; 31 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Prayer services are set for 7 p.m. today at Rix Chapel. Price Charles Robert Price, 72, Altus, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, in Altus. Services were held today at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Altus with the Revs. Boyd Whitehead and Bill Davis officiating. Interment followed at Restlawn Cemetery in Mangum under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in his honor to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville, MD 20850. Price was born Sept. 12, 1927, at Mangum, to A.B. and Maude (Biffle) Price. He grew up and went to school in Mangum, graduating from Mangum High School in 1945. He later graduated from Sayre Junior College. On Sept. 19, 1945, he married Julian Evelyn Dutton in Mangum. The had two daughters, Shirley and Jan. In 1946, Price enlisted in the Army and served in the occupation forces in Japan during World War II, where he was a driver for an election team overseeing the first democratic election in Japan. After being discharged, he worked as a cleaner and wool presser for 999 Cleaners in Elk City. As a member of the Army Reserves, he was called to serve during the Korean War. When he returned, he joined the National Guard on Dec. 24, 1953, and later became the Administrative Staff Technician for the unit. In 1965, he moved to Altus and worked as Administrative Specialist for headquarters and HQ Battery of the Oklahoma National Guard. During his military service, he continued his education by attending many Army schools. He was the recipient of many awards and commendation medals. He retired in 1987 with 33 years military service and the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church until his health failed. He served as a deacon, Bible teacher and as a personnel committee member. Price was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include: his wife Evelyn, of the home; two daughters, Shirley Brazeal and her husband Jimmie of Sanford, Texas, and Jan Sherwin of Tulsa; two brothers, John Wesley Price of Mangum and Elmer Lowry Price of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Rowena McKinney of Amarillo, Texas, Laquita Andrews of Houston, Texas, Tony Graham of Lawton, Tony Phillips of Tulsa and Blake Sherwin of Tulsa. He is also survived by six great grandchildren. Reyna Anneliese Reyna, infant daughter of Jaime and Patty Reyna died this morning. Reynolds Robert (Bobby) James Reynolds, 39, Altus, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kincannon Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Reynolds was born July 5, 1961, in Havre de Grace, Md., to Kenneth and Lois (Combs) Reynolds. He graduated from Altus High School in 1979 and was active in the choir, drama, school plays and That Altus Band. He was an alternate to Boys' State and he received a music scholarship to Western Oklahoma State College. He had also attended East Central University in Ada. Reynolds served in the Army during 1980 and served in the National Guard from 1981 until 1987. He was a licensed cosmetologist and a barber by trade. He owned and operated Clean Cut Barber and Style Shop. He was a member of the Emmanueal Baptist Church and enjoyed interpreting for the deaf while he was in school and his church. He also enjoyed collecting barber shop antiques. Reynolds was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Combs and Henry Reynolds; two cousins, Debbie Reynolds and Vanessa Osborne and two aunts, Billie Jean Baily and Fern Reynolds. Survivors include: his parents; one sister, Cindy Reynolds Landsdale, Altus; one brother, George Reynolds, Altus; grandmothers, Greathel Combs of Bel Air, Md. and Una Reynolds of Mangum and two nieces, Kenna Lea Lansdale and Tiffany Reynolds; two nephews, Elliot Rodda and Kenneth Reynolds; and many other family members and friends. Robertson Funeral services for Ida Margaret Robertson, 91, longtime Clinton educator and social worker, were held today at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry King and George Meacham officiating. Burial followed at Parkersburg Cemetery under the direction of Stanley-Lee Funeral Home. Robertson was born Aug. 25, 1909, on a farm west of Clinton, to Frank and Julia (Parker) Vowell. She died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Shanoan Springs Residence in Chickasha. She graduated from Clinton High School and Southwestern College. On June 29, 1933, she married Frank Robertson. She taught high school English at Foss, Port and Arapaho Schools. In 1964, she started working for the Department of Human Services and worked there until her retirement in 1975. She helped start the Meals on Wheels program and the Methodist Health Care Auxiliary. She was involved in her church as well as PTA, Allied Arts Club and BPW. She enjoyed reading and playing Bingo. In 1993, she moved to Altus to live with her daughter and in 1997, moved to Chickasha. Robertson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frank; a brother, Levi Vowell and two sisters, Nellie Siefker and Alice Muriel Richmond. Survivors include: two daughters, Jeanne Elliott of Chickasha and Mary Anne Kaiser of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Kelley Williams of Altus, Shawn Clark of Naples, Fla. and Nancy Elliott of Chickasha; three great grandchildren, Kelley Williams of Norman, Joshua Williams of Altus and Taylor Clark of Naples, Fla. Memorials may be made in her memory to the United Methodist Church of Clinton Christmas Connection. Shaw Pearl Shaw, 48, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Altus. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with Sonny Tims officiating. Interment will follow at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Shaw was born Jan. 22, 1952, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Robert Lee and Clara Harris. She married Willie Shaw II on Sept. 2, 1969. She was a longtime resident of Altus and worked as a cook at the Wilson Center. She attended Lincoln School in Altus. Survivors include: three sons and their wives, Willie J. III and Sandra Shaw and Steve and Inez Shaw, all of Altus, and Freddy and LaRhonda Shaw of Arlington, Texas; three sisters, Gloria Windgraft, Albany, N.Y., Patricia Harris and her husband Herbert and Virginia Vickers, all of Altus; one step sister, Pamela Crowley, also of Altus; four brothers, Robert Harris of San Diego, Calif., Donnie Harris and Eddie Ray Harris, both of Oklahoma City and Bobby Ray Harris of Los Angeles, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; a long time friend, James Hurd of ALtus and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Willingham Elizabeth Willingham, 92, of Blair, died this morning. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Victory Baptist Church in Altus with Rev. Tom Gillard officiating. Elizabeth Ann (Sligh) Willingham was born on February 7, 1909 at Snyder, Scurry County, Texas. She was the daughter of Jenkins Sligh and Lueticia (Herren) Sligh. She married James Rufus Willingham on June 5, 1927 at Snyder, Texas. The couple was married for 53 years and had 13 children. She was a lifelong homemaker and she loved her church, sewing, cooking, crafts of which she has received a blue ribbon at this years county fair. As a young girl she traveled in a covered wagon from Texas to what is now Norman, Ok. as part of the Chislom Trail. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Willingham; two sons, Carlos Weldon Willingham, James Randolph Willingham and one daughter, Phaildene Willingham, her parents, six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by Gary Willingham, Tahlequah; Alton Willingham, Duncanville, Tx.; LouElla McCorkle, Arlington, Tx.; DeLaine Clifton, Kennedale, Tx.; Bill Willingham, Midwest City; Jack Willingham, Arlington, Tx.; Ronald Willingham, Deagoville, Tx.; T.J. Willingham, Blair; Kenneth Willingham, Blair. Elizabeth has 40 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She is survived by 179 family members and a host of friends. Willingham Foy Willingham, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Grace Living Center. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Blair Cemetery. Ardron Hinton will officiate and Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Willingham was born July 19, 1922, in Quail, Texas, to Kirby and Mable (Moore) Willingham. The family moved to the Blair area when he was a young child. He graduated from Blair High School. He spent most of his life in Jackson County and took care of his parents in their declining years. Willingham was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Willingham; one sister, Lucille Wilson and a niece, Debra Willingham. Wright MANGUM-Lanny Arnold Wright, 51, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Great Plains Regional Hospital in Elk City. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Wendell Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum. Wright was born Aug. 31, 1949, to William and Lois (Bo) Wright in Mangum. He grew up in Gallup, N.M. He joined the Marines in 1969, and served his country for three years. He returned to the Mangum area and married Maria D. Felan on Aug. 19, 1977, in Wellington, Texas. They lived in Mangum at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Gerald Morgan.
