Services are set for 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at a later time at the Fort Sill National Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born April 30, 1946 at Des Moines, Iowa to George Merton Patterson and Dorothy Marie Davis Patterson. He married Rita Rae Springsteen Dec. 30, 1972 at Papillon, Nebraska. He served 29 years in the United States Air Force where he worked as a weather forecaster. He was proud of his military service. He retired in 1995 from the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife Rita of the home; son Glenn Meridith Patterson of Granite; mother Dorothy M. Patterson; sisters Sally Ann Kranenberg and Linda Lynn Patterson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEPT. 3: Ferris William Denver Ferris Ferris William Denver Ferris, 90, Headrick, died Sunday in Anadarko. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will follow at the Navajoe Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. He was born June 1, 1912 in Altus to Eugene and Margaret (Harrison) Ferris. He married Vinita Waldroop on Jan. 8, 1933 in Carnegie. She died April 6, 1999. He farmed for many years in the Navajo Community. After retiring from farming, he enjoyed fishing, reading the Bible, taking care of his dog "Tater" and spending time with his family and friends. In December of 2001, He moved to Anadarko to be close to his brother and family. He is survived by his brother Raymond "Bud" Ferris and his wife Dutch of Anadarko; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vinita Ferris; sister Lillie Davis; and two brothers, Lewis and W.C. Ferris. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEPT. 4: Ball Roy John Ball Ball Roy John Ball, 73, Weatherford died August 31, 2002. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thurs-day at First Baptist Church of Weatherford, Texas with burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at White's Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the directions of White's Funeral Home, Weatherford, Texas. Roy John Ball was born November 22, 1928, in Boone County, West Virginia, to Ray Ball, Sr., and Myrtle Silvy Ball. Though he had only one beloved son, he had many people who loved and respected him as a father figure. He was a husband, father, friend and neighbor. He joined the United States Air Force in 1949 and married Charlene Hood, Weatherford, Texas in 1953. Together they shared a career of over 24 years that took them to many different parts of the world. Roy retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant and then pursued a career in electrical contracting for fifteen years. He taught underprivileged students at Job Corps to become electricians under a program with the Department of the Interior. In December 1992, he graduated from Oklahoma State University. When he retired from this job he and Charlene moved back home to Weatherford, Texas. Here he drove a school bus and was a substitute teacher for Weatherford ISD for two years. Then he taught GED classes at Corrections Corporation of American in Mineral Wells, Texas, for three years and was currently employed as Assistant Testing Administrator at Weatherford College. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Charlene Hood Ball of Weatherford, Texas; lson David Lee Ball, Arlington, Texas; sisters Juanita Knuckles and Becky Jones, West Virginia; brother Ezra "Tuz" Ball of West Virginia; brother-in-law Charlie and his wife Sherry Hood, Weatherford, Texas; uncle J.C. Hood and his wife Doris, Weatherford, Texas and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family has asked, that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Scholarship Program of Weatherford College. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Benjamin Ford SEPT. 6: Benjamin Ford, 69, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. C. W. Ramsey and Rev. Don Sevedge officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born August 8, 1933 in Manila, Arkansas to Wesley Monroe and Callie Staggs Ford. He attended school in Mississippi County, Arkansas. He married Regina Ford and to this union four children were born. Ben loved to work with wood and built furniture for a living. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and farming. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Altus. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and six brothers. He is survived by his wife Regina; daughters Mary Ford and Rosie Ford, both of Poteau; sons Wesley Ford and Michael Ford , Poteau and sisters Roberta Belcher, Altus, Jewel Silvia, Sacremento, Calif. and Josie Baugus, Oceola, Arkansas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ethel Hunt Ethel Hunt, 94, died Wednesday in a nursing care facility in Altus. Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday at the Gray Gish Funeral Home Chapel, Frederick, with Richard Moran, great-grandson and youth minister at Elk City, officiating. Burial will be at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the directions of Gray Gish Funeral Home, Frederick. She was born Nov. 20, 1907 in Temple to Jim and Edna (Williams) Smith. She attended Lone Star School and Lone Star Methodist Church near Temple, where in 1920, she met Earl Hunt the night he joined the church. The couple married on Feb. 10, 1924 at Temple. They moved to Vera, Texas near Seymour, Texas. Their farm was adjacent to the Waggoner Ranch. The Hunts moved to Tipton in 1942. They lived and farmed in the Tipton area for over 50 years. Ethel was a talented homemaker. She loved to sew, cook, and was an excellent seamstress. She was a member of the Busy Bee Club, and the Home Extension Club for 77 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Manitou. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl Hunt; brothers Claude and Bob Smith; nephews Wendell Smith, Leo and Durwood Smith; sisters-in-law Sybil Horn and Duron Smith. She is survived by sons James Leon Hunt and his wife Georgia, Blooming Grove, Texas; Robert Kenneth Hunt, Taylor, Texas; Earl Van Hunt and his wife Sue, Ft. Felder, 46, died Monday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services were held on Saturday at Calvary Community Church with Rev. Keith Boyce, Rev. Odis Babers, and Rev. Jack Harris officiating. Burial followed at Fairmount Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Stewart Funeral Service. Margaret Honey Bee Walker Felder was born December 12, 1955 to James and Ada M. O'Neal in Dallas, Texas. She attended her early school years in Memphis, Texas and later moved to Hollis, where she furthered her education. Margaret united with Anderson Jr. Bishop in 1970. To this union, two daughters, Teresa and Tina, were born. In 1979, she united with Dennis Floyd Walker, adopting his two beautiful children, Dennis Walker III and Denise Walker, as her own. They remained as husband and wife twelve years before he preceded her in death. She later met Henry Felder, and they were united in marriage in 1993. margaret accepted Christ in 1979 under the direction of Rev. Wood Berry of Mt. Olive. She rededicated her life to Christ in 1992, under Pastor Leroy Walker of Victory Temple Full Gospel. In 1998, she became a member of Calvary Community Church, where she attended until her health began to fail. Margaret worked in various hotels and restaurants for fifteen years before she retired. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, and her father James O'Neal. She is survived her two daughters, Teresa Lindsey of Hollis and Tina O'Neal and her husband Terry, Oklahoma City; her mother, Ada Mae O'Neal, Hollis; her mother-in-law, Annie Thompson, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Lawrence O'Neal, Hollis; James O'Neal II, Carthage, Texas; and James O'Neal Jr., Ft. Worth, Texas; four sisters, Beverly Harris, Loretta Williamson, Alberta Davis (Joe), Roberta Dickson (Glen), all of Hollis; five grandchildren, Treba Hill, Altus, Jerom'nique and Tequita Lindsey, Oklahoma City; Terry and Willie Lindsey, Hollis. Maella Rogers was born Sept. 25, 1933 in Altus to Ralph and Bettie McCutchen. She married Arthur Rogers Sept. 2, 1950 at Vernon, Texas and they made their home in Altus. Maella was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Nona Gray. She was born January 3, 1933 in Hollis to Lester and Annie Beatrice Hooks Stallings. She worked as a food service supervisor and lived in the Hollis community all her life. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She married Winford Wilson Kitchen on Aug. 13, 1949 in Wellington, Texas. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and also enjoyed going to garage sales. She is survived sons Donnie Kitchen and wife Linda of Yukon, Ronnie Kitchen, Hollis, and Faron Kitchen, Oklahoma City; daughters Rhonda Montgomery and husband Neil, Duke, Kathy Cooper and husband Peter, Lubbock, Texas, and Sandra Montague and husband Sid, White Deer, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Winford in 1985; granddaughter Michelle Kitchen in 1992; and grandson Tanner Welch in 1996. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kobiskie Louise Johnanna Dorothea Kobiskie, 85, Alma, Kansas, died Sept. 5, 2002 at the Council Grove Health Care Center in Council Grove, Kansas. Funeral services were held today at the Peace United Church of Christ, Alma, with Rev. John Austin officiating. Burial was to follow at the Peace United Cemetery, Alma. She was a long-time resident of the Alma community. She was born Feb. 5, 1917 in Baker, Kansas to William G. and Anna S. Meyer Kneisel. She attended country school near Powhattan, Kansas. She married Woodrow William Kobiskie on May 6, 1945 in Alma, Kansas. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1990. She was a homemaker and she and her husband operated the family farm north of McFarland, Kansas until their retirement in 1975 when they moved to Alma. She also worked for different local restaurants and the Alma Manor as a cook. She was an active member of the Peace United Church of Christ. For several years she was a 4-H leader and also enjoyed playing cards in a local card club. She is survived by daughters Betty Friesen and husband Dennis, Herington, Kansas, Shirley Robertson and husband Rodney, Altus, Nancy Rowley and husband Gary, Eskridge, Kansas; son John Kobiskie and wife Sheryl, Manhattan, Kansas; sisters Leona Thonen, Powhattan, Kansas, Pauline Rison, Omaha, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services are pending. She was born November 24, 1904 on a claim in Woodward County, Oklahoma Territory to pioneer settlers Seth Pomeroy Johnson and Nellie Matthews Johnson. Her father was an early day Sheriff and County Assessor of Woodward County. She graduated from Woodward High School in 1922 and attended Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University) where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She taught school in Mooreland, Sharon, and Shidler. While teaching in Shidler she met and married her first husband Walter B. Gover in 1927. They moved to Altus in 1931 where they organized and founded The National Bank of Commerce. They owned interests in banks in Frederick, Tipton, Hollis, and Grandfield. Her husband preceded her in death in 1960. In 1962, she married Othello H. (Bill) Ford. They established a home in Granite where he was President of the First State Bank. They later made their home in Grandfield where he was President of the First State Bank. Upon their retirement from the Grandfield bank they moved to Green Valley, Arizona. After her husbands' death in 1982, she moved to the Friendship Retirement Village in Tempe, Arizona. She was very active in Girl Scouts, Okla. Heritage Association, McDowell Club of Allied Arts, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Daughters of the American Revolution, and many other charitable and civic organizations. She was an accomplished pianist, loved music and dancing. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law John and Maria Gover of Duke; daughter and son-in-law Mary Jean and Jack Cahill, St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law Gretchen and Jerry Fronterhouse, Kerrville, Texas; nine grandchildren; twenty six great- grandchildren; and long-time friend Cyrus Eaton, Tempe, Arizona. Griffith, 77, formerly of Eldorado, died Tuesday in Kingston. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Pete Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 3, 1925 in Eldorado to Edward E. and Mildred Eugene Brownlow Griffith. He attended Eldorado Schools. He entered the United States Army and served as a demolition specialist from 1944 through 1946. While serving in World War II, his platoon was one of the first to encounter and overtake the Imperial Palace in Japan. After returning home, he worked as a home builder and cabinet maker in Oklahoma City. He retired and moved to Kingston to be near Lake Texoma. He was a member of the VFW and past commander of Post number 9625. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pixley, 83, died Thursday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending with Kincannon Funeral Home. Tidmore Buena B. (McClendon) Tidmore, 91 died Tuesday. A funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Mangum. The Rev. John Corbin, minister of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum. She was born Jan. 8, 1911 to C.O. and Laura McClendon in McHue, Ark. She married Sherman Tidmore in Sayre on Oct. 19, 1935 in a double wedding with Earl and Beatrice Hager of Willow. She resided in Mangum until her husband's death in 1958. In 1959, she began work as a residence director at Oklahoma College for Women where she was employed for 16 years. She worked in Yukon as an apartment manager for several years. She returned to Mangum in 1984 when she retired. She was a life long member of the First Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader and was active in the community. She was a seamstress. She moved to Rochester, N.Y. in 1998 to be near her daughter and family. She is survived by her children Janet T. She graduated from the Ozark School and earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Altus Junior College. She married Kenneth Pixley April 5, 1958 in Altus. She was a homemaker and supported her husband in his various business projects. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus for more than 70 years. She was also a member of the Erolethian Club, the Altus Quilting Club and sat on the Salvation Army Board for many years. She was selected as "Older American of the Year" in 1998. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, sewing, needlework and quilting. She especially enjoyed visiting with her friends and hosting various functions in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in January of 2001. Burial will follow at the North Fairview Cemetery in Wellington, Texas He was born Nov. 21, 1921 on the family farm in Harmon County to Christine McPherson Scott and Hilliard Perry Scott. When he was about ten-years-old, the state line was moved to its present location, making the family homestead a part of Childress County, Texas. He continued to farm until his health forced him into retirement. He served in World War II in the 31st Infantry Division in the Leyte and Mindanao Phillipine Islands from 1944-1946. He was a staff sergeant in the 310-ordinance depot company stationed in Del Monte, Mindanao after the war ended. He worked for Tri-County Butane from 1952-1958 and became acquainted with many residents of the tri-county area before he began farming and custom combining full-time in 1958. He did custom wheat harvesting and ran a repair shop. He married Mary Lois Bledsoe June 5, 1957. After 38 years of marriage, she died in 1985 from a long illness with cancer. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Scott of Wellington; daughter and son-in-law Kathlyn and Kevin Britton of Edmond; four grandchildren, Laci Scott of Houston, Texas, Cami Scott of Amarillo, Texas, Trenda Scott of Houston and Matt Britton of Edmond. He is best known for the many hours spent at the race tracks and working on race cars with his son, known as "The Old Man and The Kid." He was born Dec. 30, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo. to Percy Walter and Mildred Ann (Shipman) Moles. He attended school in Lee's Summit, Mo. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service, United Nations Korean Service, China Service, National Defense, Republic of Korea War Service, Japan Occupation and Presidential Unit Citation medals. He participated in operational assignments with the U.S. Marines on the East Coast of Korea. He attended Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, Mo. and graduated with a degree in chemistry and a minor in economics in 1958. He married Twilla Cargal on Feb. 5, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in Blair. He worked in a variety of jobs with the National Defense such as General Dynamics and I.C.B.M.. Later, he worked for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Titusvile, Fla. and had several patents on high gas pressure systems associated with the space industry. He received an accommodation from the director of the Kennedy Space Center for the Apollo/Saturn Program Launch of Saturn V in 1967. He worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Health from 1975 until his retirement in 1993 as an environmental health supervisor. During this time he worked in many county health departments in southwest and west central Oklahoma where he made many improvements in the environment regarding rural water systems, public water supplies, waste water treatment, solid waste management and air quality improvement. He also worked in the central office in the Milk Sanitation Division and the Industrial and Solid Waste Division. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football and baseball. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of the Shriners and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter JoBeth Miller and her husband Kirk of Mangum; his son Chuck Moles and his wife Suzanne of Blair; one brother, Wayne Moles of California; and six grandchildren, Maci Jo Harvey of Mangum, Jaclyn, Kelsey and Kolby Miller, all of Mangum; Beau and Jakob Moles of Blair and many friends. He married Ruby Agnes Young on Aug. 9, 1934. She died Oct. 26, 1991. He enjoyed treasure hunting and driving around the countryside. He lived at home and was able to drive until the time of his death. Antonio "Tony" Steve Ybarra Sr. was born Sept. 2, 1923 in Holly, Colo. to Pablo and Eulalia Ybarra. He married Betty Lupe Sanchez Nov. 8, 1948 in Greeley, Colo. They moved to Altus in 1957 where he worked as a truck driver. He drove for Long Bell for five years before going to work for Rounds and Porter. He retired from Rounds and Porter after driving trucks for them for 25 years. He was known as the "Tamale Man" around town. Each week he would go to many local business and take tamale orders. The following week he would deliver his orders. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Mangum High School and attended Oklahoma State University and Kemper Military School. He retired as a full Colonel after a 24-year career in the United States Air Force. His early years were spent training pilots for war and he served as squadron commander and base commander in several sites in the United States. He brought his family to Mangum where he and his wife were owners of Mangum Lumber Company for 30 years. In 1971 they served as class parents for the graduating class of Mangum High School. He was very active in his church and community, serving as president of the Mangum Chamber of Commerce. He was also president of the Mangum School Board and held many positions at the First United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in starting the Mangum Rattlesnake Derby. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosemary; four sons and one daughter, Ralph Heatly and wife Signe of Edmond, Robert Heatly of Altus, Rollie and wife Micki Heatly of Tulsa, Ronnie Heatly of Oklahoma City and Rose Mary Heatly of Artesia, N.M.; brother Dick and his wife Joy Heatly of Spartanburg, S.C. and a sister-in-law, Roberta McMahan of California; five grandchildren, Summer and Erin Heatly, Jill Morey, Brittan and Lucey Heatly. She was born on June 3, 1911, in Coppell, Texas, to Alva and Zora Belle Dodson Bentley. She grew up and attended schools in Durant. She married Cruce Pryor Clevenger April 21, 1934, in McKinney, Texas. They lived in Altus from 1946 until 1964, and owned and operated Clevenger Electric Service. In 1964, they moved to Lawton where she and her husband owned and operated C&E Lawn Equipment until retiring in 1978. She was a charter member of the Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society and a volunteer at Southwestern Medical Center for over 20 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the War of 1812. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of a Sunday school class. Survivors include three sons, Price Clevenger of Show Low, Arizona, Dr. Ben Clevenger and his wife Gene of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and Ed Clevenger of Lawton; sister-in-law Mary Clevenger of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She taught at Horace Mann and Sam Houston junior high schools before joining Amarillo College in 1969. Her professorship at Amarillo College lasted 33 years in which instructed courses in nutrition, marriage and family, home economics and many others. She attended several seminars and conferences and was active in the Texas Association of Family and Consumer Service, the American Dietetic Association, the Panhandle Dietetic Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma professional group. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus. Patterson Greer Funeral Home in Hollis is in charge of arrangements. He was born Feb. 18, 1917 in Duke to William "Bill" Criswell and Carrie (Hanson) Criswell. He attended public school at Rock School and graduated from Duke High School. He attended Altus Junior College UCO in Edmond and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He later received his law degree at the Cumberland School of Law in Lebanon, Tenn. He married Edna Dale Middleton in 1935, with the ceremony officiated by the Rev. Bowman, Methodist minister, in the home of Stansell Whiteside, Sr. in Altus. Early in their life he farmed northwest of Duke where he, Edna and Beverly made their home. He served as Jackson County Attorney. Later he became Assistant District Attorney in Boise City for a period of time before returning to Altus as Associate District Judge. He held the office of President and was active in the Jackson County Bar Association, promoting relationships with the Altus Air Force Base. He attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev. He served in this judicial capacity from 1968 until his retirement in 1985. Upon retirement, he pursued his love of horses, gardening and cooking. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elma Hendricks, two nephews, Joe Hendricks and Nevlyn Hendricks. He is survived by his wife Edna Criswell and a daughter Beverly Criswell of the home in Altus. He was born March 12, 1925 near Lone Wolf to M.L. and Eliza (Winters) Carroll. He attended school at Soldier Springs and Lone Wolf. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II as a Seaman First Class gunner in the South Pacific Theater. He married Berniece Gardner in Vernon, Texas on Feb. 25, 1946. He was self employed as owner o f The Tire Shop in Altus. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Carroll, brother Gureld and sister-in-law Mary Ann Carroll. He married Naomi Lee "Sally" Gray on Dec. 6, 1942 at Mangum. She died Nov. 23, 1996. They made their home on a farm east of Mangum and he worked for J. Ray Baker at the John Deere dealership for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the Oklahoma National Guard Company M 179th infantry, the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and had been a member of the Cityview School Board from 1957 until 1961. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He was born Aug. 24, 1939 in Hollis to J.R. and Mildred (Carrick) Scott. He married Francis Carter Feb. 1, 1985 in Altus. He lived and worked in Harmon County where he was a cotton and peanut farmer. Willoughby died Saturday at Mangum City Hospital at the age of 83. Services were held this morning at the Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Roe officiated. Burial followed under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum. He was born to Fonzo and Joan (Lacefield) Willoughby on May 3, 1919 near Durant. He returned to Mangum in 1991 after living in several areas of the country for many years. During those years he worked at Carbon Black Factory in the Texas panhandle and he spent time in California. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include sister Rose Storti of Shreveport, La.
