All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Portales Cemetery--Portales NM Bales, Viola Ann "Sis" Services for Viola Ann "Sis" Bales, 87, of Portales, will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Arch Baptist Church. The Rev. Tony Reynolds and Ken Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Wesley E. Bales, Aaron Bales, Jimmy White, Hugh Frank, Scotty Beevers, Robert Prock, Tim McCready and Robert Rydeski serving as pallbearers. All family members and members of her church family and her many friends will be honorary pallbearers. Lunch will be served for the family at noon on Tuesday at the Arch Baptist Church. Mrs. Bales was born April 19, 1919, in Altus, Okla., to the home of Rutha and Wesley Lee. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, Dec. 28, 2006, in Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Bales grew up in Dexter and later in Roosevelt county. From an early age she was working in the fields with her parents and helping to take care of her siblings. On Dec. 4, 1937, she was married to E.R. Bales, in Portales. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Bales was a wonderful cook, and always had plenty of food prepared for her family and any unexpected guests. Her freezer was kept full and her pantry well stocked with the foods she canned. She was well known for her beautiful quilting, embroidery and other hand work. She was a member of the Arch Baptist Church, and a generous Christian lady. After her husband retired from farming, she worked at the university as a housekeeper for about 10 years. In 1988 she moved to Golden Acres where she enjoyed the fellowship and activities. Since October of 2005, she had been a resident at Heartland Continuing Care Center. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley W. and Janice Bales, of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Wilma Jean and Kenneth Rogers, of Silver City, N.M.; eight grandchildren, Deborah (Robert) Prock, of Flower Mound, Texas, Jennifer (Tim) McCready, of Overland Park, Kan., Rebecca (Robert) Rydeski, of Silver City, N.M., Deanna (Jimmy) White, of Midwest City, Okla., Julienne Beevers, of Portales, Nicole (Hugh) Frank, of Portales, Wesley Earl (Kelly) Bales, of Defiance, Ohio and Aaron Bales, of Portales; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Lee, of Portales and Wesley Houston Lee, of Floyd; two sisters, Rutha Lou Keswater, of Altus, Okla. and Margaret Norton, of Denver, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Onzle and Andrew Lee; and by her husband, E.R. Bales, who died Oct. 8, 1993.
