Chapel services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., for Velma B. Fisher who passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007 in Bakersfield. She has entered eternal joy in the presence of her Heavenly Father. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Velma was born in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of eight children born to Malcom and Jennie High. The family moved to Martha, Oklahoma where she received most of her schooling, graduating from high school as class valedictorian. With coaching from her aunt and uncle, she moved to Bakersfield 1934, where the following year, she married her loving husband of 48 years, Lecil "Lee" Fisher. He preceded her in death in 1983. Velma attended the Oildale Church of God from 1935 to 1963. She later became a member of Calvary Bible Church of Bakersfield until she was unable to leave her home. Various Christian organizations benefitted from her prayer and support. Mom has always loved the Lord and read her Bible from cover-to-cover every year. She prayed for her family every night before she went to bed. She was a lady with a strong work ethic who was employed by the Oildale Post Office for 30 years. Velma was a good cook, seamstress, and enjoyed gardening and playing the piano. Velma is survived by her three children, son, Lowell Fisher; son, Carl and wife, Janice; daughter, Linda Hall and husband, Don; daughter-in-law, Sandy Fisher, all of Bakersfield; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Fisher and wife, Mandy, Anjanette Fisher, Amy Davis and husband, Kevin; Valerie, Brock and Brett Fisher; four great-grandchildren; Emerson and Eli Fisher, Deangelo Fisher and Kylie Davis. Other survivors include sisters, Irma Richards of Bakersfield, and Winnie Mowery of Athens, TX and her very dear cousin Lorene Randel of Edmond, OK. She will be missed by all those lives she touched. Visitation will begin today, Tuesday, August 7, from 2-8:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel. Velma B.
