"PJ" Jan. 8, 1965 - Jan. 16, 2007 Paul F. "PJ" Hammond, Jr. of Altus, Okla., died on Jan. 16, 2007 from a work related accident at Altus, AFB. PJ was born to Paul (PF) and Bobbi Hammond in the Naval Hospital at Pensacola, Fla., on Jan. 8, 1965. He and his family came to Vallejo, Calif., in 1970 when his father, who was on active duty in the Navy, was transferred to the Naval Security Group Activity at Skaggs Island, Calif. He was active in Boy Scouts and was a member of Vallejo Chapter Order of DeMolay where he later served as Master Councilor and received his Cheviler Degree. He graduated from Hogan High School in Vallejo, Calif., and attended Solano Community College in Fairfield, Calif. While attending college he worked at Brooks Service Station on Springs Road. At the age of 19, PJ enlisted in the Air Force. Upon completing Basic Training at Lackland AFB in Texas, he was stationed at Castle AFB in Atwater, Calif. While there he met and married the former Rebecca Kimberly Stout. He was also stationed at Kadena AFB, Okinawa where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service in the Air Force he received a SAC Master Technician Award, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He also received the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Star and an Outstanding Unit Ribbon for service in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and several letters of appreciation and commendation. Upon leaving the Air Force he attended San Joaquin Valley College in Fresno, Calif., and while on the Presidents List received an AS Degree in Aircraft Maintenance. He also tested for and received an Airframe and Powerplant License from the FAA. PJ and his wife moved to Altus, Okla., when he was hired to work in Aircraft Maintenance as a Civil Service employee. At the time of his death, he was a Dedicated Crew Chief WG-11 on a KC-135R tanker. PJ is survived by his wife, Kim of Altus, Okla.; his parents, PF and Bobbi Hammond of Vallejo, Calif.; his sister, Linda, her husband SMGT James Greer, USAF; and two nephews, Mark and Christopher Woodard of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; his father and mother-in-law, Nick and Marie Stout of Merced, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins located around the country. A memorial service was held for PJ in Altus, Okla., on Jan. 22, 2007 and an additional memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive (At Benicia Road), Vallejo, CA. Inurnment will take place at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, Calif., at a later date.
