Deceased: September 5, 2004. Charles was born to Hattie Mae and Charles Edward Hurd, Sr. in Altus, Oklahoma, on February 25, 1957. Charles graduated from Altus High School in Altus, Oklahoma. He received his AA degree in Communications from Pasadena Community College in Pasadena, California. Charles was an avid sports enthusiast. After graduating from high school, Charles' love for football led to his entering the United States Army in 1972 where he played football and was a communications specialist. He spent one year as an assistant football coach for the Marana Jr. High Falcons. He loved children and encouraged them whenever he talked to them to become involved in sports. He was a great inspiration to all who knew him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Hurd, Sr. He leaves to mourn him his wife of 17 years, Gertha Brown-Hurd, Rillito, AZ; son, Brandon Surman of Delaware; daughters, Tiombe Hurd of Maryland and Shavon Collins of Casa Grande, AZ; grandson, Tyree of Delaware; mother, Hattie Mae Hurd, Lawton, OK; brothers, Bobby Jo, Tulsa, OK; Michael and Gregory, Lawton, OK; sister, Gertie Hurd, Midwest City, OK; nieces, Gregina Hurd, Lawton, OK, and DeAvia Pugh of Midwest City, OK; uncles, Arthur Rodgers of Lawton, OK, and Eugene Rodgers of Mississippi and a host of other relatives and friends.
