All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Forest Lawn Memorial Park--Covina CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on December 18, 1997 OSCAR TROPPY Oscar Charles Troppy, treasurer of Local 139 of the Laborer's Union, died of lung cancer Sunday at his Santa Rosa home. Troppy, 71, served as treasurer for the local from 1985 until his death. He took over the position when his brother, George Troppy, the elected treasurer, died, according to his son, Paul Troppy of Santa Rosa. Born in El Dorado, Okla., Troppy, who had 18 brothers and sisters, grew up as a farmer in Texas before spending 20 years in the Navy. He served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. His son said he re- enlisted in the Navy to serve during each of the wars. He served mostly sea duty and was aboard 12 different ships. He was discharged at the rank of petty officer first class. He returned to farming before moving west. He also worked for a trucking line. He married in Las Vegas in 1960 while living in Pomona in Southern California. His wife, Helen Ona Troppy, died of cancer in 1968. Troppy moved to Santa Rosa in 1972. He worked in construction for about 15 years, and did work on the Warm Springs Dam. His son said he was an avid cribbage player and also enjoyed bowling and gardening. Besides his son Paul, Troppy is survived by his other sons, David Troppy of Napa and Carl Troppy of Redwood Valley; his sisters, Gertrude Blair of Newhall and LaNell Speer of Texas; a brother, Albert "Pee Wee" Troppy, also of Texas; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Lafferty & Smith Colonial Chapel, 4321 Sonoma Highway in Santa Rosa. Burial will be Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Covina. Memorial donations are preferred to Home Hospice-Visiting Nurse, 1110 N.
