Iva was born May 22, 1936 in Altus, OK and she passed away October 26, 2008 in Delano, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Cleeva Palmer; brother, Donald Palmer and sister, Louise Palmer. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Underwood; son and daughter- in-law, Bill and Sharon Underwood; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Mike Embry; son and daughter- in- law, Mark and Nema Underwood; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; aunt, Vestal Gilbert; uncle, Meril Norton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. On December 15, 1951, Mom and Dad started their journey together with the Lord. God and Church were the most important part of their lives. Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family as well as a spiritual mother to others and a faithful friend. She is remembered for her love and devotion to our savior Jesus Christ and the call that God placed upon her life. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and encouraged others, by example, to always look to Him. Mom was a giving and patient woman of God who loved to teach and give counsel from the Word of God. Many people are living testimonies of her dedication to helping other with their walk in the Lord. Prayer, Bible reading and Christian music were daily parts of her life. Along with Dad, Mom raised us kids in the House of the Lord and taught us to put our Faith in God. She instilled a love of Southern Gospel music in our lives which was instrumental in the direction our music ministries took. She often spoke of one day soon we would see Him face to face. She looked forward to that day and now it has finally come. We take comfort in knowing she is safe in the arms of our Lord. We love her and look forward to joining her in the presence of Christ. The family would like to thank the sixth floor nursing staff and R.T.s, at Memorial Hospital, and the nursing staff at Delano Regional Medical Center Special Care Unit for your care and support of our Mother. We would also like to thank everyone for their prayer, support and love during this trying time. For additional service or floral delivery information, please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.
