The township was named for T.N. Patterson. Enumerator made notation in margin of page 77A that Dwellings #1-51 are in the town of Sugden and #51 (duplicate number) -247 are in rural area east and west of the town. The number 51 is duplicated in both DW# and FM# on page 77A. Line 18 of 77A is noted "Here completes the village of Sugden. 218 persons in this village" Enumerator used the abbreviation "UN" for Unknown; used "L.C." for Language of the Country; used complete state name and at other times used abbreviations for the state names. Enumerator made notation in margin of page 81A with line drawn through line 54: "This person had been enumerated. Only 49 names on this page." Page 84B. Line 53. This person is a full-blood Comanche Indian, born in Oklahoma Territory, and tongue was Comanche. Source: grandmother of Transcriber. Page 84B. Line 54. This person is a registered Comanche Indian. Source: Father of Transcriber. Page 84B. Lines 55 and 56. These persons are registered Comanche Indians. Source: Uncles of Transcriber Sugden is located in Jefferson County, OK, 5 miles south and 1 mile east of Waurika. Its post office was opened in Nov 1893 and closed in Nov 1995. The town was named to honor the Sugg Brothers who operated a large ranch in the vicinity. In 1900 Sugden was a thriving little town, however in 2000 only a few homes remain with no stores.
