Mesdames BILL COLSON and JOE HARPER transacted business at Ardmore. Mr. and Mrs. BILL COLSON stored their household goods and took a room in the apartment house with their son CECIL and wife. Mrs. Colson plans to visit in Missouri and Arizona this summer. Mr. Colson wants to buy another house. FRANK GRAHAM of Center Point is in the hospital at Ardmore with pneumonia. Mrs. ARTHUR ELLIS is suffering from gallstones. Mrs. CLARENCE BIGBY of Weleetka, wife of the former Baptist minister here, visited her mother Mrs. DOVIE COFFEY. VIRGIL LEONARD of the Savage Laundry says it requires long hours of labor to keep pace with the volume of work that comes through the laundry. Mrs. WALTER BELL reports that she got a letter from her friend in Woodward who was taking care of her piano informing her that the friends' house was blown away, leaving the floor and furniture intact. The piano is sitting out in the weather. In observation of National Music Week, Mrs. A. C. SWINNEY and Mrs. W. W. WOODWORTH will present their music students in a recital at the high school auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. CARLOS MONTANDON and children JENNY LYNN and BUDDY of Oklahoma City were here in the interest of his work for the O.C.U. financial drive. He is the administrator of the First Methodist Church in Oklahoma City under the leadership of Dr. C. R. HOOTEN. Elder WILLIAM LIGHTFOOT of Sour Lake, Texas is bringing the Gospel message at the Gospel Tabernacle. JAEMS DILLARD is expected home from A. & M. College. Mrs. VIDA DILLARD had as guest, Miss JENANE LUTTRELL of A.&M. College. Mr. and Mrs. TOMMY THOMAS of Oklahoma City were guests of her mother Mrs. W. BROCK and her sister Mrs. CECIL ROSE. PATTY ROSS and LETHA JEAN BROCK attended the operetta 'Blossom Time' at Oklahoma City. Miss PATSY ROSE was elected secretary-treasurer of the Y.W. at Central State College. B. F. HAMILTON, who has been ill for some time, went to Wichita Falls to go through a clinic. He was advised to take a rest. Mrs. HAMILTON and VICTOR drove there to bring him home. Cpl. LAVOICE KING, son of Mr. and Mrs. LESLIE KING, is in the Will Rogers Hospital at Oklahoma City due to an infection from his tonsils. Mrs. EULA LEE EVANS Mrs. EUAL LEE EVANS, wife of JOE EVANS, pioneer citizen here, passed away at the family home Thursday after an illness of several months. EULA LEE PEMBERTON was born February 10, 1883 at Courtney Flat, Indian Territory, where she grew up. She was married to JOE EVANS March 14, 1906 at Ryan. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. GLADYS RICHOR / ELCHOR of Matton, Illinois. She was united with the Christian church at Cornish in 1910. She is survived by her husband, Joe Evans, her daughter Mrs. LONNIE ELCHOR of Matton, Illinois, and three grandchildren, and two grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. ANN PEMBERTON of Ringling, one sister Mrs. SAM HARGIS of Ada, four brothers, PETE PEMBERTON of Ft. Collins, Colorado; LEONARD, GROVER, and LEE PEMBERTON, all of Ringling. All were present except Pete. JOHN MOSS of Lawton was in Ringling. He is a grandnephew of the late 'DOC' MCCASSIN. Mr. Moss was linotype operator for SIDNEY BOLES when he was editor of the Ringling Eagle. EDD MILLER has been employed at Texoma on the job training. Mr. and Mrs. HENRY HERRIN of Antlers are visiting his mother, Mrs. HENRY HERRIN, and Mrs. Herrin's sister Mrs. WEBSTER MITCHELL and Mr. Mitchell. HAMP HARWELL, now in California, visited in Ringling and Cornish. HOYT HARWELL, now working at Elk City, came to visit his mother, Mrs. DALE HARWELL. Mr. and Mrs. OLEN THOMAS and daughter DORIS of Oklahoma City spent the Easter with Mrs. JANE LYLE, mother of Mrs. Thurman. A number of relatives, including the J. B. AUSTIN family, enjoyed the Easter festivities. NANCY TURNER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. GLENN TURNER, is recovering from an illness. HAMP WINTERS, employed near Ada, visited his family here. Mr. LESTER is offering his furniture store for sale. Thursday, July 10, 1947 CHARLEY GRAHAM Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the First Baptist Church for CHARLES MARTIN GRAHAM. Mr. Graham died July 6 in a hospital at Ardmore at age of 68. Masonic rites were conducted by the Cornish lodge. Richeson Funeral Home of Wilson was in charge of arrangements with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. MASON BONDURANT of Orr was the officiating minister. He is survived by his wife, three brothers and a host of friends. Resolutions of respect for CHARLES MARTIN GRAHAM who died July 6, 1847 from the Cornish lodge by H. C. GARNER, CECIL COLSON, A. W. ROGERS. GEORGE MCCANNS Hold Family Reunion Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE W. MCCANN of Cornish had all their children with them for a family reunion, the first time they had all been together in 18 years since 1929. The group enjoyed a sumptuous meal, prepared by Mrs. George McCann, who has passed her 80th birthday. Mr. McCann, who is 85, is just as spry as his wife, and was right there enjoying every minute of the reunion. Those present were Mrs. ORA GRAVES of Hominy; Mr. and Mrs. OTIS MCCANN of Bakersfield, California; Mrs. LELA BURGESS and family of Desert Center, California; Mrs. ZELLA POWERS of Orr; Mr. and Mrs. OSCAR EVANS and son LEONARD, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. MCCANN and children DONALD and MARY of Ringling. Visit Mr. and Mrs. T. S. MARTIN and son BUDDY of Beville, Texas arrived July 3 to visit his sister Mrs. C. M. CAGLE. The Martins and Mrs. Cagle went to Kingston on the Fourth to visit Mrs. S.M. HUTCHINSON, mother of Mr. Martin and Mrs. Cagle. Fish Fry at Claypool The Fourth was celebrated by the residents of Claypool community by a fish fry at the LUNT GAINES home. Among the 54 present were Mr. and Mrs. C. W. DANNY YEATS of Ringling and BILL GREEN of Duncan will leave for Carlsbad, New Mexico where their newly organized dance band has a two months engagement at the La Conga Club. Dr. and Mrs. Yeats will drive through with them. Cpl. DALE J. LAWRENCE, who is serving in the Army Air Force, spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. L. E. POWER. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. JAKE LAWRENCE of Mesa, Arizona and is stationed at Salina, Kansas. Another grandson GENE KING is attending college at Ada and spent the Fourth with Mrs. Power. Mr. and Mrs. B. M. EAKIN announce the engagement of their son WAYNE A. EAKIN to Miss JOAN THROCKMORTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. THROCKMORTON of Capron, Oklahoma. The wedding vows will be exchanged Aug. 2 at the home of the bride. He attended Courtney and Ringling High Schools and is a graduate of Oklahoma A. & M. at Stillwater. He spent 4 ½ years in the Army, earning a captain's rating. He is now assistant county agent of Woods County. She attended Northwestern and Oklahoma A. & M. colleges. She is employed as a sewing instructor with the Singer Sewing center in Dallas, Texas. Baseball ED THOMAS, newly elected manager of the Mountain Home baseball team, has announced a game to be played at Mountain Home this Sunday afternoon. The game is called at 2:30 p.m. and there is no admission charge and the public is invited. The Mountain Home team has played several practice games and is now rounding into form. Their opponents Sunday will be the Lone Grove team. Mrs. E. C. GARNER is attending the two weeks School of Missions at Mt. Sequoish, Fayetteville, Arkansas, sponsored by the Women's Society of Christian Services of the Methodist Church. Mrs. FANNIE WARD Funeral services were held Thursday, July 8, at the Assembly of God church for Mrs. FANNIE WARD, with Rev. M. C. WALTER, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Ward was born December 11, 1902 at Weatherford, Texas and passed from this life July 6, 1947 at the University Hospital at Oklahoma City. She had been a resident of Ringling community for the past 24 years and leaves a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing. She is survived by her husband, W. V. WARD; three sons, FORREST, KENNETH, and MAXIS RAY, all of Ringling; six daughters, VYDA PORTER of Orr, WANDA MAE COPELAND, OCTAVIA, DOROTHY, BETTY and OTTRESSIA WARD, all of Ringling; her mother, Mrs. J. H. MARTIN of Clifton, Texas; one brother CLYDE MARTIN of Weatherford, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. T. F. KING of Vernon, Texas, Mrs. P. L. CONLEE of Weatherford, Texas, and Mrs. DALTON BLAND of Clifton, Texas. Pallbearers were GEORGE SULSOM, DAN SHIPMAN, JOE SHIPMAN, BULER MCGOWAN, SAM BEAN and BARON AWTREY. County Commissioners PERCY LAMBETH replaced T. F. ALLEN as county commissioner in district 3; GUS BRYANT replaced W. R. BERRY in district 1 and G. W. ENGLISH is a hold over from last term in district 2. Mr. and Mrs. F. F. COWAN and family of Seneca, Illinois visited Mr. and Mrs. ZOE DOSS in Ringling. Then Mr. and Mrs. Cowan and their son and daughter left for Corpus Christi, Texas to visit Mr. and Mrs. LON DOSS Jr. and family. HOWARD GRACE, manager of the Ringling Livestock Auction, reports good results in his first three weeks of business. Mr. and Mrs. L. D. CAIN had as holiday guests, Mrs. Cain's three sons and two of their families, They were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. CARROLL and three children of Steward, Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. O. T. CARROLL and two children of Oklahoma City, and ELMO CARROLL of Marlow. Picnicking and swimming at Turner Falls were enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. COKER TARR, Mr. and Mrs. EVERETT DOSS and family, Mr. and Mrs. OLIVER ALLEN and family, J. D. DOWDY and EZRA ABSHIRE. Thursday, July 24, 1947 Mr. and Mrs. ROY GRAVLEY and family from Escondido, California are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. B. GRAVLEY at Ringling. Their daughter Miss GUSTA GRAVLEY, who is employed at the Patterson Hospital in Duncan, visited them last weekend. D. J. HINCH, who is teaching at Draughon's Business College at Wichita Falls, visited his family here. Mr. and Mrs. OLIVER PIERCE returned from a vacation to Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. Mrs. Nannie Brown Funeral services were held last Wednesday July 22 at County Line for Mrs. NANNIE BROWN, 81. Mrs. Brown was the grandmother of DOYLE, BOB and EWELL "SAM" SINGLETON. She was a former Ringling resident. She is survived by ten children, living in various parts of the United States and all were able to attend the funeral. Also attending were 29 grandchildren with six of the grandsons acting as pallbearers. Mt. Home School A special election was held at Mt. Home School Thursday, July 17, for the purpose of voting a building bond to erect a gymnasium. The measure carried, with 82 voting for the issue and 24 voting against. .. LEON UNDERWOOD of Healdton drove here for his grandmother, Mrs. EMMA UNDERWOOD, who returned to Healdton with him to visit in the home of her son GERALD and to be with her grandson, KENNETH UNDERWOOD, Apprentice Seaman, who is home on leave from San Diego. Visits Step-Son J. W. PATCHEL / PASCHEL of Wilson visited in the WALTER BELL home last weekend. Mr. Patchel, who is 98 years young, does not wear glasses and is very active. He is a graduate of the University of Dublin, Ireland and is Mr. Bell's stepfather. The Claypool Home Demonstration Club met Thursday at the home of Mrs. JACK STEWART with Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. ETHEL GRIFFIN as hostesses. Mrs. OLLIE RICH was leader. Mrs. H. L. BANFOM presented a lesson. Mrs. ENOS GEAR discussed women's work dresses and aprons. Miss DORA BOLLINGER, county home demonstration agent, displayed some new fall styles. Mrs. JOHN BRIDGES, who was in the Waurika hospital, received a blood transfusion. TED COLSON and PHILLIP DELLINGER enjoyed the rodeo at Healdton. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. DULANEY received word that a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. BASIL DULANEY at Sherman, Texas, named BASIL Jr. Mrs. TALLEY BARNES left to receive medical treatment at the University Hospital at Oklahoma City. Mrs. NANCY VAUGHN and Miss OPAL VAUGHN were hostesses at a shower honoring Mrs. BUCK HALL at their home at Grady. They were assisted by Mrs. SCOTT DENNIS and Mrs. BILLIE ROBERTS. Present were Mesdames ARTHUR BERRY, OTT FRASIER, ANDY GRIFFIN, ORVIN HALL, HERMAN GRIFFIN, THOMAS HARRIS, LEONARD DUNFORD, CECIL EVANS, T. A. CECIL ABSHIRE, who has been in the Army for the past 18 months and recently stationed in Japan, is home on terminal leave. Thursday, August 21, 1947 The athletic directorship of Ringling Public School is assigned to WALTER GUNGOLL due to the resignation of E. O. CHAPMAN. Mr. and Mrs. P. T. NALL of Edmond announce the birth of a daughter Aug. 17, named LURA LABETH. Mrs. NALL is the former DRUSCILLA MOSELEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. HENRY MOSELEY of Ringling and a former teacher in the Ringling school. Mt. Home Tournament Schedule Announced ED THOMAS, manager of the Mt. Home baseball club, announced the tournament schedule to be played this weekend at Mountain Home.. Colson Family Reunion Mr. and Mrs. W. M. COLSON were surprised by an unplanned family reunion. All their children were at home for the first time in years. First to arrive were Mr. and Mrs. LEO DICKSON of Protection, Kansas. Mr. Dickson is Mrs. Colson's brother. They arrived early then were joined by their daughter NORMA JEAN Sunday. A few hours after the Dicksons arrived, Mrs. R. C. CONRAD (DOLL COLSON) of Springfield, Missouri arrived. They were followed Friday night by Mr. and Mrs. J. C. COLSON and daughter of Phoenix, Arizona. Sunday the group was completed by the arrival of Mrs. HOWARD THOMSEN (THEO COLSON) of Louisville, Kentucky. Fore Reunion at Sulphur A swell dinner and a good time was enjoyed by everyone who attended the Fore family reunion at Platt Park, Sulphur. Attending were: the DIKE HERALD family, the THOMAS HERALD family, the D.J. FORE family and D. J. Jr., DANIEL HERALD family, ZACK FORE family, JEWEL P. RILEY family, RAY BERRY family, THURL TINER family, J. T. Mr. and Mrs. CHARLIE DOYLE and family returned from Quanah, Texas where they visited their new granddaughter, RUTHIE MAE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. DOYLE. Thursday, September 28, 1947 Mrs. FANNIE BURT Funeral services for Mrs. FANNIE BURT of Brushy Mound community were held Saturday, September 6 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. BOB GREGG, with Rev. T. V. TEKEL officiating. Mrs. Burt was born March 1, 1862 in Fannin County, Texas and passed away September 5 after a short illness. Mrs. Burt, whose maiden name was FANNIE BAILY, was married in 1878 to TOM BURT and to this union were born 16 children. She was preceded in death by her husband and 7 children. Surviving relatives are 4 daughters and 5 sons, HENRY BURT of Gore, GEORGE BURT of Anadarko, JOHN BURT of Wichita Falls, JACK HURT of Plains, Texas; JIM BURT of Tokio, Texas; SUSIE HORN of Orr, STELLA WEST of Coolidge, Arizona; JESSIE GREGG of Orr, and LOTTIE GILCREASE of Oklahoma City, 39 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Burt became a member of the Free Will Baptist Church at age of 14. Interment, directed by the Bettes Funeral Home, was in Crow cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Mrs. J. R. HOOPER Funeral services were held for Mrs. J. R. HOOPER Thursday afternoon, Saturday, Sept. 11 at Marlow, Oklahoma. Mrs. Hooper, mother of GUY HOOPER of Ringling, passed away Sept. 9 at the Anadarko hospital after an extended illness. She was 72 years of age. She is survived by her husband, J. R. HOOPER of Marlow; two sons, CLYDE HOOPER of Oklahoma City and GUY HOOPER of Ringling; two daughters Mrs. ELSIE CROTTS of Oklahoma City and Mrs. CLIFFORD JONES of Cyril; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Steele Funeral Home directed the funeral services with grandsons as pallbearers. Interment was at the Marlow cemetery. Mr. C.B.
