The merchants are willing to chip in and help pay for one. Nearly every night the past week a rowdy gang in the railroad yards has persisted in firing revolvers just for the fun of it and some night a stray bullet will strike some innocent person and there will be funeral. Every one of these drunken rascals should be arrested and lodged in the Bastille. One man can not be on duty all the time. BOHANNAN is erecting a fine eight room residence in East H Avenue. W. E. GARDNER is enjoying a visit from his brother, GUY of Elmdale, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. ED VANBRUNT were in Anadarko visiting relatives. MISS GLENA BELL of Tucumcari, New Mexico is here for a two weeks' visit with MRS. GEORGE LAND. GEORGE ALLMAN returned Saturday from a trip to Gainesville, Fort Worth and other Texas points. P. H. MILNER and J. M. HILTON left overland for Big Pasture where Mr. Milner will do some surveying. MRS. C. M. BRYAN left Monday for Dallas to be gone about a month visiting her mother, MRS. M. H. HARRIS. E. B. ELLIS was kept very busy a couple of hours Saturday paying off many Mexicans who are working on the railroad improvements here. MOSS ANDERSON went to Lawton Monday. R. V. CUMMINS was a Fort Worth visitor the first of the week. JOHN DYE of Christopher, Illinois is in town, visiting his old time friend, J. H. KLOTZER. PAUL ROYSTON has been confined to his bed the past week or ten days with tonsillitis. JIM DUNCAN of Hastings spent Monday night with his brother, F. P. DUNCAN. MESSRS. ROBEY, KING, WELLS, and SMITH came down from Temple in an automobile Saturday night and spent Sunday with ART WALKER. F. M. MCKEE with the Yale Lock Co. was in town Monday cleaning and overhauling the safe for the Citizens National Bank. H. S. BRUNER returned from a two weeks' visit at Hidalgo, Texas. The trip was very beneficial for Mr. Bruner's health. The Curtis Comedy Co. is one of the best in the world. The implement men will take a lodge number of seats, so you had better get yours early or you may get left. Mr. and Mrs. B. V. CUMMINS entertained Mr. and Mrs. WILLIAM DAVIS, Mr. and Mrs. ED V. PARSON and Mr. and Mrs. ROSENFIELD Sunday night. J. L. VERTREES was also present and partook of the splendid luncheon. At the Stuard Next Tuesday October 8th, the favorite comedian, ALLEN CURTIS, and his big company will be the attraction at the Opera House, presenting the funniest of all musical productions, "Jakey, Mikey, and Ikey," and it promises to be musical treat of the season; the company numbers 25 people, comedians, prima donnas and show girls, everyone an artist in his respective line. ALLEN CURTIS, the cleverest Hebrew comedian on the American Stage heads the list of entertainers. Madden Grove Cotton picking is beginning now and a good many bales are being ginned. W. L. MEYERS, the road "boss," has been doing some good work on the roads. MRS. PERDIE FILLMAN has gone to her mother's on Whiskey Creek to help take of them as they are most down with fevers. R. M. JOHNSTON had to have his index finger on his right hand amputated caused by a felon. He had it done at Hastings. ALVA DAVIS is helping move Addington away by moving out one of its houses. The Adventist Church has at last been moved to it s site on the hill, CLARK and GIBBS of Waurika doing the work. W. B ETCHISON sold one of his fine Jersey cows to Mr. CLARK last week getting $60.00 of her, but that was not any too much for good Jerseys. What is going to happen now! FRED JOHNSTON is sporting a new horse and one of the finest and most stylish buggies in the country. Don't walk, girls if you will wait, you can ride. Lookout A number of Lookouters attended the convention at Valley View and report it one of the most interesting meetings of the District. Mr. and Mrs. JOE BAKER visited his parents Sunday. J. V MARTIN of Beaver County returned this week and reports Beaver County dry. MRS. HARLOW and daughter of Weston, Texas are here visiting MRS. CLAUD FRANCIS, who is very sick. MISS MATTIE JEFFREY of Quay, New Mexico returned last Sunday. Miss Mattie will teach in the Deer Grove school this winter. Mr. and Mrs. LEWIS WOODS of Morris district visited MRS. OTIS RUE. Mr. Mudge said he had issued orders for work to be rushed in the yards here because the service is much needed. E. L. YEARGAIN, the jeweler, has been getting a lot of new goods. Waurika is fortunate in having an expert watchmaker as Mr. YEARGAIN is. W. E. GARDNER is adding another room to one of his houses in East H Avenue. He will soon begin the construction of another house next to the one mentioned. W. B. SULLIVAN and M. W. LYON are delegates to the National Farmers Congress which meets in Oklahoma City this month. They hold commissions from the governor. Claypool Items G. W. HINTON and family got back from southwest Texas. He brought a bear cub with him that is a show to the neighborhood. R. B. GAY and J. W. BROWN have been commissioned by Gov. FRANTZ as delegates to attend the Farmers congress at Oklahoma City, the 17th of October. J. D. SUGG of St. Agnew, Texas has sold SIDNEY WEBB at Belleview, Texas 4500 steers here in the Washington pasture. JACK BOTTS, SAM GAY, WALTER MCNUTT and CUSTER JONES are delivering the stock. S. V. JONES has sold the steers to OLD MAN CLABE BURNETT 1034 head and the pasture for 12 months. MR. MANTON of Ryan has put 140 steers in OLD MAN GAY's pasture for grass. S. E DICKEY has been trying to buy a bunch of cattle but the high price has knocked him off the line. S. E. DICKEY, R. B. GAY, W. M. BELSHE, S. J. BLACK, and M. KISER held the election at Turkey Creek. 21 out of 27 were for prohibition. All for statehood but one. J. F. GARDNER went to Ardmore last week. GRANDMA GARDNER of Grady is visited the J. F. GARDNER family this week. PARSON OWENS of Nocona, Texas held a meeting in the neighborhood this week and has some interest worked up. S. V. GAINES has gone to Mineral Wells for his health. Crib building, corn gathering and cotton picking is the order of the day on South Mud Creek. Well! Well! What do you think? Last week I saw two little boys under the shade of a tree, playing in the sand. One of them was lying on his stomach, looking at the ground, and he called, "Doodle bug, doodle bug, come and get Ryan." The other boy said, "Oh! Hush! Boy, Ryan done got herself the 17th, you fool you." Riverview MRS. O. W. FROST has been ill but is better now. REV. ING of the Christian Church began a meeting at Riverview Saturday night. Several of the Mountain Home people attended church here Sunday night. ROY WHITE made a flying trip to Hastings and Waurika Saturday. Wonder if he was hunting the county clerk's office. MRS. STONE and MRS. CALLAWAY visited in Hastings Tuesday. MISS ADDIE KENNEDY visited LUCY BIGHAM Sunday. MRS. LILLARD has been chilling. Mr. and Mrs. MURRELL of the Territory are visiting Mr. and Mrs. WILKES KING. MISS LUCILLE CRUTCHER and ROY MOODY attended church Sunday. MISS RUTH REAGAN visited MYRTLE STONE Sunday. OSCAR STOVALL says by his actions that Riverview is an attractive place. M. W. LYON is talking of moving to Texas this fall. Poor blind man! Amen! Rube's letter last week. We have another class, the kind that break the Sabbath day by hunting and fishing. Men that permit their boys to disturb the country on Sabbath day with their shotguns. Needn't expect the boy to make any kind of citizen except a man as is his father, and if such boy ever gets in jail, don't be surprised nor get angry with your son. L. PHINN, north of Waurika, was at Mr. GARRETT's Saturday, buying a fine hog to head his herd. BRO. RUBE, we want to say Amen! to your talk on the boys in your last week's letter to the News. Some one said MRS. A. C. FLINN had to stand Mr. Flinn in a tub of water till 12:00 Sunday night to save his toenails. He is all right now, however. MR. MENZ has his house finished and a fine new cook stove in it besides other kitchen furniture. He has it occupied by cotton pickers. His 100 acres of cotton will now be handled without gloves. DR. DERR was called to the C. F. GUNNELS home Tuesday to see one of the pickers. Nearly everybody attended the Sunday school convention at Valley View Sunday. DR. DERR was chairman and proved to all that he knew how to conduct the work. (protest paragraph about paying cotton pickers too much) Addington HENRY PRICE shipped ten cars of cattle to Kansas City. H. J. HENSLEY returned last night from Jacksboro, Texas where he has been looking after business interests. G. J. KEITH was up from Ryan and shipped two cars of steers to Fort Worth. MRS. A. BOONE is in Fort Worth visiting her daughter ETHEL. REV. TURNER of Comanche conducted a revival meeting at the Methodist church last week. Physicians report numerous cases of malaria throughout the country. HENRY BOWLES is working with the Washington cowboys this week. JACK BATES of the Suggs ranch was in town Monday, buying provisions. The Civic Improvement League held its regular meeting with MRS. JAMES KEITH Wednesday, Sept. 25. Officers elected; MRS. J. C. SUTHERLAND, president; MRS. J. S. PRICE, vice president; MRS. JAMES KEITH, secretary; and MRS. H. J. HENSLEY, treasurer. Melrose J. H. SHELL has two ribs broken last Wednesday week which was very painful. MR. JONES has returned from Michigan. L. R. ECHOLS is some better. Two of his brothers returned from Texas. MR. LOWE's family have all been chilling. MR. VANBEBBER got his arm broke in a harvester while harvesting can Monday.
