S. GILKERSON, editor of the News-Democrat, who was taken by Dr. MAUPIN to El Reno hospital last Friday and operated for appendicitis, is reported as improving. Shooting in Cotton County Last Saturday night, about 9:00, a man by the name of COOKE shot ANDY JACKSON with a shot gun loaded with No. 9 birdshot… The trouble is said to have arose over Jackson turning his horses in on Cooke's Johnson grass after having been told repeatedly not to do so. The shooting took place 11 miles west of Waurika and Officers MCCRAY and TURNELL hurried to the scene, but upon investigation, found the trouble occurred in the new county of Cotton so they guarded the prisoner until Sheriff MULLINS of Cotton County arrived. Mullins came down in his automobile and the prisoner was taken to Randlett and lodged in the jail. It is reported that the injured man is resting easy. To Organize a Democratic Club… J. J. The Weeds Are Going Hence The News-Democrat has been sorely troubled about he weeds which have been about the most thrifty product growing in this immediate vicinity for some time. It is quite noticeable that many citizens have gotten in after the weeds and quite a general slaughter is the order of the present… Addington While unloading a bale of cotton last Friday, CHARLIE HEADRICK was violently thrown to the ground, injuring him seriously. BRYON BROWN lost a good horse with what people call spinal meningitis among horses. TOM VOYLEY has an animal also afflicted. Farmer had better look out about the feed and care for their horses. MRS. EVANS, MRS. THOMSON, JOE MITHCELL, MISS BIRTIE SOUTHWOOD, MARION FRANKLIN and MISS THERESA BOHN visited Chickasha last Saturday and while there went to see Buffalo Bill's show. A social event at DICK MCKINNEY's residence Wednesday night was great source of delight to the young folks. We enjoyed some of the best music we have ever had in town. Mr. CAMPBELL and family of Van Buren, Arkansas are the guests of J. A. FORMBY's family. Born to the J. S. SHELBY family, a fine boy on the 23rd. PROF. W. P. MURPHY of Sugden High school was among us Saturday and Sunday. PROF. WEAVER and family returned from an extended visit with folks and friends at Temple. JIM and JONES KEITH went to Oklahoma City with cattle Monday and will witness Teddy touch the button which will put the Bull Moose in action on the 24th. MRS. JARRIE STEWART, who has visited at Bells, Texas all summer, returned home. JOE MITCHELL has quit the band. While he was playing his horn with all his might, he let a 'big fellow' take his horn away from him. REV. HILL and WYLEY have a tent meeting going on here. MRS. RAMSEY was bit by a poisonous insect which is giving her trouble. Mrs. CASSELBURY/CASTLEBURY was also bit by a spider while picking cotton and has a bad finger. MISS PHOEBA KIMBERLAND/KIMBERLIN of Corum is the guess of MISS NELLIE and MISS CORA EDGAR this week. MISS DELLA CAMPBELL and GUSSIE HOOK of Sugden spent Sunday with friends here and took dinner with NETTIE and MARY HUFFER. MRS. P. H. STEELE and MRS. ELIZABETH STEELE have returned from an extended trip to Sulphur. Some Gasoline Engine Last week the DUNKIN-WALKER Hardware Company sold a 45 horse power mogul gas tractor to W. V. MCCLURE living southwest of Waurika. The engine is made by the International Harvester Company and is a handsome as a powerful piece of machinery. It will be used by Mr. McClure for corn shelling, threshing, and plowing burrows and has already been put into service. A. H. DICKSON was in town from Sugden Monday. He reports a splendid outing and says he was all around the Mexican trouble but witnessed no serious complaints. J. E. RILEY, manager of the Commercial Hotel, is attending the state fair at Oklahoma City. L. W. TARKENTON and JOHN HEENAN were business visitors in Fort Worth. CHARLES STUART of Walter, a former Waurika hardware merchant, was in town Tuesday visiting his brother and friends here. JOE YOEMAN, one of Lawton's foremost real estate dealers and loan men, was in town Monday. Commissioners SAPPINGTON and TYSON were in the city Saturday and Monday holding a meeting of the commissioners court. J. R. ECKLES returned Saturday night from a business trip to Tulsa and other eastern points. He want to Oklahoma City to hear Teddy Roosevelt. MRS. C. M. JASPER and little daughter of Plano, Texas are here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. BENNETT. LOWELL ADAMS is quite sick with typhoid fever. Besides LOWELL, JUDGE and Mrs. ADAMS have two other children who recovering from typhoid. HARRY TEDFORD, CLYDE and ALONZO PARKS of Lawton were in here Sunday. Mr. Tedford visited his sister, MRS. R. A. YIELDING. Mrs. G. W. WEAVER of Plano, Texas, who visited her sister, Mrs. G. W. BENNETT, returned home. MRS. C. M. ELLIOTT returned Saturday to her home in Fort Worth after visiting here at the homes of the DERR and HUDDLE families, her relatives. GEORGE SIMONS is away at the springs taking treatment for eczema which has given him considerable trouble of late. J. H. KLOTZER, former of Waurika, but now of Barnard, Kansas, is here visiting GEORGE SMITH and other friends. Mr. Klotzer always speaks a good word for Waurika and we would not be surprised to see him move back most any time. J. M.
