M. MAUPIN, mayor; A. W. ELWOOD, city clerk; W. J. BALLARD, street commissioner; J. W. HORN, chief of police and Aldermen GROSECLOSE, DAWSON, STUARD, TURNAGE and DUNKIN. The most important topic before the council was the paving of Main Street wit cinders and chat. … The Rock Island railroad will be asked to install warning bells at all principal crossings in the town… The city will also ask the Pioneer Telephone & Telegraphic Co. to move their poles to the alleys. Commissioner BALLARD reported that in the northeast part of town some eight or ten poles stood in the middle of the street and that they were serving as a hindrance to street work in now in progress. WILLIAM GROSS of Lawton was in town. One article 'Notes from the Oil Field' Comparatively No Change of Affairs in Mexico MISS LILLIE RICHARDS, MISS PIERCE, DUDLEY ASHERBANNER and WOODIE and WILLIE MATTHEWS of Ryan were in Waurika taking the teachers' examination. Oklahoma City Boosters Here The Oklahoma City trade excursion train arrived in Waurika on schedule time this morning and the boosters led by CAPTAIN HARRY BRILL's band, marched up Main Street to the court house where the band circled and rendered a few pieces of well chosen music while the boosters went around the crowd and called on the various lines of business. Fighting in Colorado In response to a call for federal assistance by the governor of Colorado, the President sent federal troops to Colorado to preserve the peace. Desperate fighting occurred Wednesday at Forebes and Wallensburg between the strikers and militia and nine lives at least were the toll of Colorado's seen months' industrial war. Bush Withdraws CLARENCE BUSH of Fleetwood was in town Tuesday and Wednesday and while here informed us he had withdrawn from the race for county treasurer. This leaves three contestants in the field--MINIS RAY of Waurika, COLLIE WINTER of Hastings, and HUGH TREADWELL of Ryan. Sugden W. L PETERS was in Ryan. BEN F. SAYE was here from Waurika in the interest of his candidacy for county judge. CLAUDE EASTERLING was visiting friends here. MRS. WILLIS BRISCOE from Wichita Falls was visiting relatives here. The local lodge I. O. O. F. observed the 95th anniversary of the order Sunday. Dinner was spread which was pronounced by MR. RAYBORN of Waurika being 'a plum good 'in.' Prof. J. M. DYER was the speaker. JUDGE J. M. ADAMSS was a Sugden visitor, attending to business and looking after his race for county judge. Wanted on Many Charges W. C. WILSON, formerly of Loco, Stephens County, was arrested in Bowie and brought back to Waurika Saturday by J. M. HUDLOW… Log Rolling The W. O. W. lodges of Jefferson County will hold their annual log rolling in Waurika Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4. … CHARLES YODER of Sugden, DR. L. E. GEE or Terral, and T. B. LEVERETT of this city have charge of the program. Lund in Cornish C. H. LUND is in Cornish looking after his lumber business during the onward march of progress in the new town of Ringling, about a mile north of Cornish. The new yard is in charge of HUB DILLARD. Riverview Items CARL STONE is recovering from a severe spell of sickness. School closed here Friday and the entertainment given that night by MISS MAY WOOLDRIDGE and her pupils was a great success, considering the inclement weather. We wish Miss Wooldridge success through life and consider her a first class teacher in every respect. C. B ANTRIM, DOLPH CRUTCHER, CARL WITT and JESSE ROAK furnished the music for the entertainment. ALBERT STOVALL and family visited JIM KING and family Sunday. MR. PUTMAN and family called at the home of JOHN STEWART Sunday. C. P. STONE made a trip to Waurika. LOMA QUALLS came home last Friday to attend the school entertainment. Several from this community attended the show at Waurika and report a nice time. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. WITT took dinner at the home of MR. WOOLDRIDGE Saturday. SID BULLARD will be here Sunday at 2 p.m. to organized a Sunday school. The singing at P. W. CRUTCHER's Sunday night was good and all present had a nice time. Addington MR. CALLAHAN's child stepped on a nail and inflicted a serious wound in his foot. MISS FLOY BRAZEEL returned from an extended visit near Dixie. While the water was receding from R. D. SOUTHWARD's tank just east of east of the depot, R. D. jr noticed trouble in a shoal which proved to be a large fish. He shot it with a rifle and it proved be a fine seven pound buffalo. MR. JULIAN of Alvarado, Texas is here visiting his sister, MRS. EPH CAIN. WILL CHISHOLM and LEO GREEN have joined destinies for weal or woe and will keep house on the second floor of the H. K. PRICE building. Among the indisposed this week are J. N. HINSON, A. E. ARNOLD's family, PROF. MURPHY's family, NANNIE LEMONS, CATHRINE HARTONZ, ELLA PARKS and Dr. P. H. STEEL. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. JIM LANCASTER died and was buried here Monday. JOHN KAIZER left for Wilson for a few days. MISS NETTIE GOLDEN is spending a few days with her sister, MRS. A. E. ARNOLD. WILL HARTZOG and wife visited friends at Hastings last week. CHRISTIAN is home from Tulsa where he spent three weeks serving on the U. S. petit jury. CHARLES STEWART of Duncan spent Sunday in Waurika with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. POLK STEWART. CLAUDE HOFFMAN and W. L. JACK made a business trip to Comanche. Attorney N. C. PETERS was a Duncan visitor. He made the return trip in his met Metz car. MRS. LENA STEWART returned to her home at Sugden after visiting the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. PHELAN. REV. H. B. ELLLIS was in Marlow Monday attending the closing exercises of the Chickasha district conference of the M. E. Church South. MRS. CHARLES LONG returned Monday to her home near Devol after spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. S. HUFFMAN. JAKE ROONEY, state representative of the Buick automobile, was in town Wednesday, renewing acquaintance with GAIL DURHAM. He and Mr. Durham spent six years together in show business. A. L. COKER was a business visitor to Ada. R. E. SCHOOLFIELD made a business trip to Pauls Valley. H. S. BUTLER of Des Moines, Iowa is here on business. W. E. DILLON is in Kansas City at the bedside of his daughter who is seriously ill. DR. I. SUTHERLAND and P. W. DENNEY were in Cornish on business. MIDD EDITH COMBS of Duncan is visiting MISS RUBY DUKE. JOHN WRIGHT was looking after matters of a political nature in Hastings Wednesday. JIM DUNKIN is unable to be on duty at his store, being confined to his room with a severe attack of tonsillitis. W. H. DIVERS was a business visitor to Ringling. He recently opened a branch office there. L. W. TARKENTON returned from a business trip to Dallas. He reports that area is threatened with a flood. MRS. A. K. PAYNE and sons, ALVIN and WALTER, of Duncan are guests of Mrs. J. W. KUKUK. Mr. and Mrs. DAN WARREN arrived Sunday from Rush Springs. He has taken his old job at JACK REED's barber shop and is holding first chair. W. T. RICHARDS of Tahlequah was here visiting his nieces, MRS. W. F. CARTER and MISS WILLIE RICHARDS. He was on his way to Terral to attend the reunion at the Richards home. TEMPLE ATKINS and family left for their home near Ramsdell, Texas after spending about a week with relatives in Waurika and Comanche. The trip was made overland in Mr. Atkins' touring car. Mr. and Mrs. O. T. VINSON, who spent last week here visiting her sister, MRS. JAY G. CLIFT, have gone to Dallas to visit other relatives before returning home to Wichita Falls. MOSS WEAVER, presiding elder of the Chickasha district of the M. E. church, will preach here Sunday. A. L. DUNKIN returned from visiting friends and relatives in Texas and Louisiana. W. N. CROFFORD until recently with the Monarch Store of this city left Tuesday for Chickasha. From there he goes to St. Joseph, Missouri to remain indefinitely working for a large dry goods concern. WILL GOLDEN returned from El Reno where he underwent a successful operation for appendicitis. W. I. CROWELL and L. R. CROWELL were called to Sioux Falls, Iowa last week on account of the serious illness of their father. A message from them after their arrival imparts the information that their father died before they arrived. REV. and Mrs. H. B. ELLIS left for Oklahoma City. Mrs. Ellis will go on to Sulphur to attend the Women' s Missionary Society. ED ANTRIM, accompanied by his sister, RMS. EUGENE BROWN, departed for Wichita, Kansas to visit relatives. From there they go to Kansas City, Missouri where Ed will return to his work while Mrs. Brown will join her husband who is located there temporarily. WYLIE, minister. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. CARTER, MISS WILLIE and NOBLE RICHARDS went to Terral Sunday where a family reunion was held at the home of W. L. RICHARDS. About 20 relatives were present who partook of the many good eatables at noon as well as assisting in making the day a pleasant one.
