L. CLAYTON who has been employed by the M Store for the past few months will open a new gents' furnishings store on the east side of Main Street next door to the SUTTLE Meat Market. 4-H Club Members Return from Stillwater The group of young people representing the school at Wrays Chapel, Irving, Mountain Home, Claypool, Riverview, Goodwin, Grady and E. B. Ranch, who went to Stillwater last Monday to attend the state convention of 4-H Clubs came home… C. S. MITCHELL and MISS JEFFIE THOMPSON, county agents, accompanied the young people as did also superintendent of school at Mountain Home, JOHNNIE RYAN and also MISS DESIE RYAN and HANNAH ASHBY. Word was received in Waurika Monday of the birth of an eight-pound son to Mr. and Mrs. H. H. COTNER of Wichita Falls. Hugh is the manager of the Twilight baseball league of Wichita Falls and it is reported that he insists that the youngster pitch next Sunday's game. The New-Democrat force thanks MRS. WALTER ROBERTS for some early Elberta peaches left at the office Monday. ZACK ISABEL, who has been employed at the Denney drug company for the past two years, has severed his connection with the store and will move to Covington where he has purchased an interest in a drug store. MRS. DICK MCCURRY passed away at the Weeds Hospital Tuesday afternoon at 1:25 following a prolonged illness. She underwent an operation for gallstones a month ago and rallied nicely, but since that time she had suffered two light strokes of paralysis, the third one coming Monday afternoon from which she never regained consciousness. Funeral services were conducted by REV. BOWLES at the Waurika cemetery Wednesday morning at 10:20. The sad news reached Waurika Monday morning that MISS FERN COKER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. COKER, former Waurika residents, and a sister of JOHN and ADAIN COKER of this place, passed away at the family home in San Diego, California, that morning. She had bee ill for the past several months following an attack of pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, western time, at the family home and interment was in the San Diego cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES COX are home from a seven weeks car trip to Wichita, Eldorado, Kansas City and other points where they visited friends and relatives. SHERIFF FRANK DRISKILL and CITY MARSHAL JIM BROWN attend the Sheriffs and Peace Officers' association at Ardmore Monday and Tuesday. P. C. LARGENT, president of the Guaranty Abstract Company, is having his office and office furniture painted and varnished. ED WISEMAN is doing the work. Madden Grove FRANK WOOD and family are visiting in Cleburne, Texas. MARVIN WOOD is driving a new Star car this week. MR. BALFEY and family visited the home of T. RAGSDALE. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. BEWLEY called on Mr. and Mrs. I. C. MCGINNIS Sunday. HENRY SMITH spent Saturday with VIRGIE WEDD. H. W. STRODER and family, MRS. KELLY and son, spent Saturday with W. L. MYERS. A. V. GREER purchased a tractor from the Fordson Co. at Comanche. MRS. BEATRIC JOHNSTON and little daughter, ALICE LEE, and GRACE SMITH, spent Saturday with the G. W. WEBB family. C. SCHWARTZ returned from visiting relatives in Kansas. MR. HAHN and family spent Saturday with the D. B. KINDER family. MRS. F. K. GRIFFITH and children spent Sunday with MRS. G. WEBB and family. MRS. EVERETT SIMMONS and little daughter BURNESS are spending the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. GRIFFITH. Mr. and Mrs. R. NEWBORN and MRS. GOSS visited relatives in Texas last week. Mr. and Mrs. WARNER MACK and family have gone to Durant where he intends to find work. Friends and relatives mad Mr. and Mrs. LARK ROBISON a visit Saturday evening. Riverview DR. BULLARD visited our Sunday school and gave an interesting talk. Mr. and Mrs. BILLY KEELE spent last weekend in Sulphur. Mr. and Mrs. BUD MIDDLETON and sons, W. P. and ROY GLEN, returned home after being gone three weeks. They visited their parents in Lubbock, Texas and relatives in and around San Angelo. C. R. QUALLS purchased a new Ford last week. Mr. and Mrs. CLYDE ELLSWORTH and family of Ashland, Kansas are visiting relatives in this community. LESLIE STONE, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. STONE, is spending his vacation at home. He has gone two fall and two summer terms at the state university at Norman. Mr. and Mrs. HAYS and family of east of Waurika were the guests of REV. DRUMGOOLE Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. CLARENCE LEWIS and Mr. and Mrs. HENRY WILSON and family took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. NEWT LEWIS Sunday. WALTER KEELE was the guest of DORMAN and RAYMER QUALLS Sunday. MRS. CG. R. QUALL and MRS. HATTIE COLEMAN motored to Temple Monday. Cornish Gleanings STREETER HANKS of Atlee, who had been working in the Healdton oil field for several days, fell from the top of a tank which he was covering several days ago, and sustained some very bad bruises. MRS. J. A CUMMINS and daughters, ALLINE and JAUNIT CUMMINS, after visiting her brother, HENRY MUNDELL at Plainview, Texas, and her sister, MRS. J. H. WELCHER at Seagraves, returned home. MRS. FRED MORRIS and children, her nieces, GERTIE MAY, ZONA and DOROTHA MORRIS and nephew, JAMES M. MORRIS, were visitors to Cornish from Ringling Sunday. SAM BRADFORD of Albany, Texas, MRS. MARTHA MCKINSEY, MISS NORA BRADFORD, and WALTER MCKINNEY of Duncan visited the home of G.M. BRADFORD and other relatives and friends in and around Cornish and Ringling. DR. S. O. TAYLOR reports the arrival of a bouncing boy at the home of WLATER HARWELL. The newcomer took up board there July 28 and all are getting along fine. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. THOMPSON and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. VICORS, all of Hastings, were business visitors in Ringling last Tuesday. H. C. HARPER of Speers, Florida, an evangelist of the Church of Christ, is conducting a protracted meeting in the Community building in Ringling. Mr. and Mrs. I. HARMON of Ringling returned from Hot Springs, Arkansas. J. M. ROBBERSON has returned from a western visit and said the best crops were near Hollis, Oklahoma and Wellington, Texas. ODUS MENDENALL of Ringling became dissatisfied with bachelor life and after obtaining the consent of MISS AUDREY LOCKWOOD of Ringling, to become his life partner, he procured a marriage license and they motored to Cornish Saturday August 1, and were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Mr. Mendenall is an industrious young farmer and the bride, an accomplished young lady, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. WAYNE LOCKWOOD of the Big Mud community. Born to Mr. and Mrs. HOMER DODSON since our last writing, a fine 13 pound boy. Mother and baby getting along nicely, but it is thought by neighbors, that Homer's case is almost hopeless and it will be sometime before the newly arrival's grandfather, W. E. ROACH, will be in his right mind. The Ford roadsters ran together Saturday night between Cornish and Ringling. The car going from Ringling where the occupants had attended the 'Alabama Minstrels' was owned and driven by FRANK FLETCHER; the other car belonged to ROBERT LOWRENCE, who was coming into the town from the south. The Fletcher car was left for dead where the two came together and the other car turned a complete somersault. Mr. Fletcher had a broken clavicle bone. J. H. 'JEFF' RICE, son of Mr. and Mrs. NEWT RICE, who reside in Mexico, died Monday, August 10, from injuries received from falling timbers where an old building was being torn and moved from Wirt. He was unable to get out of its path and was crushed, Friday, August 7. He was rushed to a hospital at Duncan where he died. He was 29 years old. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. EDWARDS and her sister MISS VIOLA THOMPSON visited Mrs. Edwards' parents, Mr. And Mrs. W. L. THOMPSON in Waurika. Little WANDA BURGESS, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. C. BURGESS, was operated on for tonsil trouble and adenoids. Wrays Chapel MRS. E. T. BAKER and children visited relatives at Truce, Texas. They were accompanied there by LEWIS DABBS, E J. ROBISON and ODESSA BAKER. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. RITCHEY visited with Mr. and Mrs. OTTO ROBISON Sunday. MISS NELLE and MISS BESSIE WALDRUM returned from Norman where they attended school. MRS. MARION HICKMAN spent last weekend with her parents at Bowie, Texas. MISS BLANCHE BURKHED and GEORGE ROBERTS returned from Stillwater where they attended the 4-H club meeting. LELAND and BERNICE ROBISON and OTLIA BROWN were Nocona visitors Friday. DONNIE LOVING visited MISS ANNA and MISS ZOLA MILLER. PROF. E. A. DURHAM and family returned from Durant where Mr. Durham attended school. MRS. ZULA ROBISON and children visited the W. W. BAKER home Sunday. MRS. BUCK RATLIFF spent the past week with in the Belleview community, visiting her daughter, MRS. WILLIS HARRIS. MRS. NETTIE LANTZ of Park Spring has been visiting relatives here. RMS. C. A WALDRUM and son CARL visited the C. D. LOVING family Sunday. MISS MYRTLE and MISS EVA POPE of the Opie community visited MISS NINA and MARY RUDD. MISSES LULA STOVALL, AUDREY JETER and ISABELLE spent Sunday with MISS VELMA RITCHEY. L. F. WRAY and family took dinner with Mrs. Wray's parents, Mr. and Mrs. JIM CALHOUN. Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
