School Election Held in Cornish An election was held at the public school building in Cornish to elect a man to be clerk of the school board. L. B. JACKSON was chosen. CLIFTON ADCOCK, who ahs been employed at City Drug Store for several months, left for Dallas. W. R. HOGAN accepted a position as apprentice on the News here. Orr Observations WALTER HODGES visited at Waurika. PROF. J. O. BRADSHAW of Loving, Texas is visiting friends here. A.F. SCIVALLY came from Ardmore. MISS GRACE PATTON, teach in our school, returned home to Missouri. ISAAC ROBERTS attended to business at Waurika. MARGARETA BYRNE, MITTIE ROBERTS, ADA WALKER, ETHEL PALMER, JOHNNIE GRIZZELL, and CLEM TAYLOR left for Marietta to attend Normal School for the summer term. We wish them all to return with certificates. Jack rabbit hunting is the go at Orr. MRS. EDD BEAN and MRS. WILLIAMSON were here trading. MRS. MAUDE MATTHEWS of Atlee was here and reported good trade at Atlee. ALBERT LOVING and DOYLE HODGES went to Atlee to build a new residence for ARTHUR MATTHEWS. LOUIS RICHARDS went to Dallas to purchase a new gin for Orr. Baby Severely Injured by Fall Last Tuesday evening while playing on the front porch, the little child of Mr. and Mrs. GUY BAIRD, who reside a few miles west of Cornish, fell to the ground about four feet and severely injured. The doctors think the child will live. A deal was made in which the ownership of the City Livery barn passed from D. B. CARLTON, who purchased the barn a few months ago, to SILAS GIBSON, who took charge last Sunday. Mr. Gibson states he will probably purchase an automobile and use it in the livery business. State vs WESLEY THOMPSON A case was tried in the Justice court of Earl township Monday in which the state prosecuted WESLEY THOMPSON on a charge of gambling. One entire day was spent in getting a jury as everyone within several miles of Cornish had heard of the case and formed opinions, but finally, last Monday evening, a jury formed and on Tuesday morning, returned a verdict of not guilty. CANN JOHNSON of Atlee attended to official duties here. C. H. LUND of Waurika was here on business. R. O. DULANEY looked after business in Claypool. Assistant County Attorney E. L. DILLARD of Waurika represented the state in justice court. G. C. HARRIS looked after business in Waurika. W.T. STUART is having his barbershop repapered. JIMMIE JOURDAN of Walters visited with Mr. and Mrs. Z. L.BOLES. W. E. ZION of Durant had business here. J. H. KEELE and wife of Ryan visited here. MRS. C. A. DULANEY visited in Waurika. W. C. WOOD had business in Waurika. Last week R. F. RICHARDSON sold four lots in the Miller Addition to Cornish to W. A WHITMORE, for $30 each. MISS ERCHAL CREL visited friends in Waurika. DR. S. S. GARRETT of Dixie was here on business. DR. M. BRADSHAW left for Carbondale, Illinois to visit relatives. ISAAC ROBERTS of Orr was here on business. June 13, 1913 D. L. DENNIS and daughter MISS HELEN were called to Edmond to the bedside of his daughter MISS ALTA, who is attending school there. She had attacks of heart trouble, and returned with her father and sister to their home a few miles north of Cornish. Mr. and Mrs. R. O. DULANEY, Mr. and Mrs. Z. L. BOLES and Mrs. N. A. DULANEY visited at Loco. Mr. and Mrs. W. R HARRIS arrived to visit with his father and brother. Mr. Harris stated he and his bride will make their home in Texas. MISS MARY KIRKPATRICK of Richmond, Missouri is the guest of MISS BERNICE DULANEY and other friends. MISS MAGGIE WILSON Entertains Last Saturday night, MISS MAGGIE WILSON entertained the members of the Ladies Duplicate Whist Club and their friends at her home six miles southwest of Cornish. Those present: Mr. and Mrs. J. J. CLOUGHLEY, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. MCQUAID, Mr. and Mrs. WESLEY THOMPSON, MRS. L. JACKSON, MRS. MATTIE PRUITT, MISSES MALLIE JOHNSON, ELLIE SMALLEY, and BLANCHE DULANEY, and Mr. A. A. MORRIS. HARRIS, manager of the Cornish Orphans' Home, came in last Sunday to look after the interests of the home, then went to Ardmore. MRS. J. P. DULANEY is visiting relatives at Stigler. A.M. DULANEY and SEYMOUR OGILVIE left for Greer County where Mr. Ogilvie will take charge of the gasoline plow belonging to H. N. and WILIAM DULANEY of this place. MISS ELLIE SMALLEY of northeast of town was the guest of MISS BLANCHE DULANEY of Cornish. Mr. and Mrs. WILLIAM DULANEY, who have been in Greer County for several weeks, arrived to take charge of the hotel again. MISS MEGGIE BECKAM visited with friends in Waurika. Master HARMON CLOUGHLEY, who has been attending school at Kansas City, returned home, bringing honors of graduation. Two Days Picnic and Barbeque at Hewitt on the 25th and 26th of June. Everybody invited to bring well filled baskets and enjoy two days of amusements. There will be speakers by the Socialists and Democrats. Two of the best ball teams between Waurika and Ardmore will engage in games. There will be potato races, slow mule races, greasy pole, horse races, and fat man races. ACE TAYLOR, who lives just west of town, is very ill. A.F. SCIVALLY intends to move back to Orr. BUTLER-LEBEAU A marriage license was issued to OTT BUTLER and MISS VIOLA LEBEAU, both of Claypool. They were married in Cornish and will make their home in Claypool. Born to Mr. and Mrs. B.S. CUMMINS, Sunday, June 8, a fine baby boy. MISS RUBY GILLEY, who visited her sister MRS. FRANK WILLIAMS in Gainesville, Texas, returned home. G. W. JOHNSON was on the sick list. WILLIAM HAMMON and MISS MAE MERRIT visited at Orr. MRS.JOHN DARNELL and her niece MISS MAE MERRITT LEFT TO Erick, Oklahoma to visit her uncle. JIM COOPER of the Mountain Home community, is on the sick list. A.M. DULANEY and SEYMOUR OGILIVIE returned from Greer County. FRANK HAMILTON, who lives five miles west of Atlee, was here on business. Mr. and Mrs. MIRRAN STIDHAM of Atlee were shopping here. ARTHUR MATTHEWS, the prosperous merchant of Atlee, was here on business. Mr. Matthews is putting in an excellent stock of general merchandise at Atlee. MRS. MEL WILKE and children of Hewitt are the guest of MRS. L. JACKSON. Mr. and Mrs. MATHEWS of Hewitt are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. JACKSON. MRS. GARRETT MAZE of Waurika visited Mrs. L. JACKSON Sunday. RICHARD HOGAN went Sunday in Waurika. The little child of Mr. and Mrs. JIM GRIFFITH of Mountain Home died last Monday night. G. C HARRIS was in Waurika on business. HAMP HARWELL visited in Waurika. MISS BLANCHE DULANEY and MISS ELLIE SMALLEY went to Ardmore. Miss Ellie is attending the Normal and Miss Blanche is visiting friends. S. G ODOM, who visited his brothers in Louisiana, returned home. MISS ALTA DENNIS has improved from her illness. MISS JACKUE JACKSON accompanied her sister MISS VIDA to Chickasha an spend the summer with relatives. Born to Mr. and Mrs. JIM WATT, who reside a few miles south of town, Monday night, a fine 10 pound baby girl. H. E. KIMBRELL of Joiner was here on business. H. D. JIM GRIFFIN'S baby died last Tuesday morning the 17th and was buried the 18th at Cornish. The families of S. WILLIAMS, A. J. ALFORD and D. L. DENNIS have the whooping cough. MRS. JIM GRIFFIN had the misfortune to step on a nail. LEONARD SHAW Dies after a Long Illness After a continued illness of several months, LEONARD SHAW died at his home south of Cornish Wednesday afternoon at 1:00. The remains were interred in the Cornish cemetery yesterday at 2:00. We extend sympathy to his parents and kinsmen. The services were conducted by Woodmen of the World lodge of which Leonard was a member. Lost, black horse mule, about 15 hands high, 5 years old. JOHN DARNELL and niece MISS MAE MERRITT returned from Erick where Mrs. Darnell visited three uncles. JOE BRYAN Jr. of Middleburg arrived here to accept a position in the City Drug Store. R. O. DULANEY will start an auto line. He will make every effort to give the people the best service in the way of transportation and carry express packages and parcels. Special terminal stations will be selected at all towns from Waurika to Ardmore. LAWS, J. W. BOND and W. H. VINCENT. Last Monday HARRY MOORE was severely stabbed twice in the side by WILL EASON.
