S. J. LOCHRAN was killed by a train while she and a child were walking along the track not being aware that a train was bearing down on them. The cowcatcher threw up on the pilot of the engine. The train stopped and placed her in the baggage car, taking her to the depot where DR. LEWIS was summoned but too late. She lived northwest of town about 2 miles where the accident occurred on the culvert near the lakes. She was laid to rest in the local cemetery Sunday. She was 65 years old and is survived by six children, MRS. MAAGIE RIDDLE of Duncan, EMMA BROWN, EULA LEMONS, MINNIE ROBERTS, CHARLES LOCHRAN, and JOHN LOCHRAN of Ryan. Married HOMER C. BROWN of Ryan and MISS NANNIE ALLEN of Bowie, Texas were married at the home and by REV. W. T. FLEETWOOD at high noon Friday. They will make their home at Ryan. Slumber Party Tuesday night ten of Ryan's girls enjoyed an all night party at the home of MRS. W. M. KELLER in honor of MISS MARGUERITE WILLIAMS of Nocona, Texas. Games of all kinds were played until a late hour when refreshments were served. Those present were MISSES ALTA BROWN, LUCILE TRUE, GERTRUDE MILLER, EFFIE KEHOE, BOBBIE EPPERSON, CORINNE HORTON, LORA FLEETWOOD, INEZ ROGERS, MARGUERITE WILLIAMS, and the hostess. DOLLIE KELLER. Family Reunion On the 21st, the children of Mr. and Mrs. ROSS SCOTT met at the family home seven miles west of Ryan to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Mr. Ross Scott was married to SARAH LOUISE SHULTZ in 1872 and came to Texas in 1874. Of the twelve children, all but four were present: the J. H. GRIMSLEY family, W. R. TALLEY family, all of Nocona, Texas; L. J. and J. D. MCCLENDON families of Oscar, F.C. MARMADUKE family of Ryan, JIM and FRANK SCOTT who live with their parents. (one offspring was not in the news item) A.R. PORTER of Grady was here for the fair. MRS. BURCH and daughter BONNIE BELLE went to Cornish. JOE DOUTHIT of Texas was here on business. DOWNING MCBRIAN went to Fort Worth. HAMP THOMAS of Grady vicinity was here trading. A.A. SAPPINGTON sold 54 hogs to W. H. SPARKMAN. J. A. GILLIAM and family of Whitewright, Texas are visiting the family of J. R. SMITH. TOBE HUGHES, J. M. HUGHES and J. P. KROUSE shipped a carload of hogs to Fort Worth. C. J. LONGEST of Petersburg was here. He has some fine horses at the fair. WILLIAM GROVES of Phillips was here visiting his sister MRS. M. A PORTER and other relatives. MRS. FRED HEMPHILL of Dallas came to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. WALKER. ELBERT SPARKMAN and wife of Knowles visited relatives here and attended the fair. W. D MILLER, FLOYD V. CAIN and GEORGE KEY attended the Holiness meeting at Bowie, Texas. J H. BARRETT and wife of Whitewright and MRS. W. S. RUSSELL of Sherman, Texas are visiting M. H. BARRETT and family and taking in the fair. MISS BIRDIE MONTGOMERY visited her mother then returned to her school at Rush Springs. ERNEST WHITFIELD of Fort Worth is running the City Restaurant for B. T. LEWIS who holds a position with the ice company. MRS. MARY DEASON and son of Waurika visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. R. BROWN. C. A. MCBRIAN has been on a prospecting trip in California and Colorado. D. A. RAY of Jefferson went on business to Whitewright, Texas. J. A. MARTIN of El Reno visited his cousin GEORGE HUGHES here. He is employed with the Rock Island in Waurika. Friday, September 5, 1913 Post Office "Robbed" R. F. BROWN of Ryan was seen to enter an automobile and drive with all haste to Grady. He was assisted by REV. FLEETWOOD in "robbing" Grady of its post mistress, MRS. BELLEE BEELER who were married and Rev. Fleetwood was taken along to perform the ceremony. Friday, September 12, 1913 Why does Ryan Get the Cotton W.A MUSGROVE of Claypool took two bales of cotton to Waurika and was offered 12.25 for them. The next day O. B. GARRISON bought the same bales paying 13.90 for them. MRS. D. A. RAY and children RAYMOND and HAZEL left for Texas to spending the summer at the Jefferson. J. E. TRICE left for northern markets to buy fall and winter stock for is dry goods and clothing store here. T. G. CHILDERS and family of Ardmore have decided to locate here. JESSE STANFIELD made a business trip to Fort Worth. WILL WRIGHT of Petersburg was here. SAMP MCREYNOLDS of Marlow visited here. W. T. REED from the west side was in town and made the Leader office a pleasant call. Mr. Reed was a former business man of Ryan, but after burning out here, he bought a fine farm west of town and now had corn in the crib and fat hogs galore. MISS EDNA LAKEY of Wanette, New Mexico arrived to make her home with her aunt MRS. P. E. WILLIAMS. She has accepted a position with the Leader and will set type. MISS WILLIE CORNETTE of Austin, Texas visited relatives here on her ay home where she will teach in the Austin school this year after spending the summer in Colorado. MRS. M. L. HENDERSON of Pangburn, Arkansas is here to visit her sons G. C. and J. L. HENDERSON. MRS. BETTIE BURCH left for the Northern markets to purchase fall and winter millinery for O. G. GARRISON. MRS. EFFIE BELLAMY left for Marlow where she accepted a position with RUCKER Dry Goods. MRS. P. F. WILLIAMS left to visit relatives at Henrietta and Blue Grove, Texas, W. J. BORUM was tendered a surprise supper at the Jefferson hotel last Friday, to celebrate his 30th birthday. The Jefferson hotel family helped to make it merry. Mr. Borum is the nestor at the Jefferson, being a continuous guest for a longer period of time than any other patron. Friday, September 19, 1913 Crow Held at Bisbee, Arizona Sheriff BIFFLE passed through with the proper extradition papers for BILL CROW charged with the murder for SCHOOLBAUGH at (looks like Terral) in 1908. Bill Crow is being held at Bisbee, Arizona. Lots of Trouble D. N. CURB returned here Saturday after an exciting chase across the river and back, where at Leon, a fiend in human form, Mr. AULD, an advance man for the J. E. HENRY wagon show. Auld is under arrest and faces charges for pandering. He took the two young Doyle girls from the train on their way to visit relatives at Wichita Falls. When the girls failed to arrive at Wichita Falls, Rev. Curb followed the trail across the river, then to Leon, Love County finding them in AULD'S wagon. The girls are young and unsophisticated and did not realize the enormity of their conduct and stated they were glad to see Rev. Curb, yet humiliated to see him. The good people fo Oklahoma should see to it that any fiend who takes advantage of youth gets what is coming to him. The Ryan Leader Contest A subscription contest for young ladies, with the first prize being a piano. Mr. and Mrs. WYLEY FISHER of Terral were here. MISSES MOLLIE and FLORENCE GENTRY of Nocona are visiting their sister MRS. JAMES ALISON. MRS. M. W MOORE of Nocona returned home after visiting her sister MRS. JULIA ALISON. MRS. F. A. BOUTWELL of Leonard, Texas arrived to visit her sister MRS. M. H. BARRETT. W. J. CHAPMAN of Grady was here shaking hands with friends. MRS. F. H. HEMPHILL returned home to Dallas after a visit with W. O. WALKER and family. MRS. J. HAMERSLEY of Okarche returned home after visiting relatives here. DULES CURB, son of Rev. and Mrs. CURB, has typhoid. MRS. RUBY STROUD of Waurika with the Pioneer Telephone Co. was here. J. D. KENNEDY opened a produce business in Ryan and rented a house on the north side. JUNE LEWIS is again on his old job as janitor of the public school. Mr. Lewis is a favorite of the pupils as he keeps the radiator good and hot when it is cold. MRS. ARTHUR C. BENTZ of Claremon, after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES E. DAVIS of Ryan, was called home by the illness of Mr. Bentz. J. W. DOUTHITT from the Texas side of the river was here and is talking of moving his ferry from old Frog Creek Crossing to a point just below the mouth of Beaver Creek. J. D. MILLER and sons E. and F. R. MILLER, editor and publisher of the Fletcher Times, were here to visit Mrs. WALER HARRIS and visited the Leader office. DR. BOND of Geromino, his daughter MRS. BOND and granddaughter, and Mrs. WELLS of Brownsville, Tennessee have been visiting MRS. JULIA ALISON. They left to visit DR. OWEN. Prof. L. L. WADE and family left for Norman where they will make their home. Prof. Wade will enter law school there. O. C. SPARKS bought the Northside barber shop from J. J. LEWIS and will take charge of it. WELSEY, who for many years was owner of the Lindsay Hotel at Gainesville, Texas, one of the most popular and successful hotel men. A printer passing by the name of S. T. SWITZER stopped over here and after we had stood for bed and board and advanced him $3.25, he sneaked out of town in the still hours of night.
