Mr. and Mrs. P. W. DENNEY and their daughter OLGA and son EDRICK and Mr. Denney's niece, MISS FAE JENKINS, were the first to leave. They motored out Sunday afternoon, just in time to get a good start for Monday morning. They will go to Clovis where they will visit briefly with relatives. They expect to be back July 1. The Denneys were followed early Monday morning by Mr. and Mrs. C. G. STUARD and son CHARLES and daughter MISS RUBY who left via the Ford route, California bound. They will visit their son CLAUD at Los Angeles and see the sights of the Golden Gate state. They expect to overtake the Denneys on the way and to make part of the trip together. On Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. HARRY ATON and children left for the same points. They will visit Mr. Aton's parents at Long Beach and enjoy the pleasure of a camping trip. New Reo Bus to Be Put on Wichita Line FRED WEST, the proprietor of the Waurika-Wichita Falls Bus Line has purchased a new Reo bus for his passenger service. Officers Make War on Slot Machines County Attorney SHIPP and Sheriff DRISKILL have declared war on slot machines in the county and last week confiscated several machines at Terral, Ryan and Ringling. Marriage Licenses WALTER L. WHITE of Hobart and MISS LENNA MAE YODER of Waurika. ALFRED MALONEY and MISS MOZELLE WILLIAMS, both of Duncan. W. L. ALLGOOD and MISS ELLA ZWELACKER, both of Devol. W. C. FARQUHAR of Tulsa and MISS GLADYS WILLIAMS of Wilson IVANAH LYONS and MISS BONNIE MITCHELL, both of Hastings FARRIS HUGHES and MISS LOTTIE SUE GREEN, both of Ryan W. S. ESSEX of Fort Worth and MISS MARTHA SCHUCKEBIER of Seward, Nebraska BRYSON and OGLETREE Released by Court L M. BRYSON and LEWIS OGLETREE were before the U. S. commissioner at Chickasha Wednesday in a preliminary hearing on a charge of unlawful possession of intoxicating liquors in a connection with the raid made on the Bryson home by Sheriff Driskill last week. After the hearing, the men were released on the grounds that the affidavit for the search warrant did not comply with the law. Sheriff Driskill and Officer JIM BROWN were present as witnesses and both state they will not be put out in the least by the decision and will continue the fight to the limit against law violators of all kinds. Old Settlers here Mr. and Mrs. R. E. DISHMAN and GLADYS HILL of Houston, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. EDDIE DISHMAN and two children of Waco, Texas arrived Saturday to spend several days in Waurika visiting Mr. and Mrs. JOHN DISHMAN and family. The Dishmans were early day settlers of Waurika and at one time, R. E. had the mail contract between Waurika and Cornish, using a team and hack to begin with and later purchasing a high wheel auto for carrying the mail. This was some 15 years ago and was one of the biggest curiosities of the day. Mr. Dishman remembers the experience well and about as much time was spent going to Cornish occasionally as was spent in coming from Waco the other day in a modern car. Waurika Laundry Sold The Waurika Steam Laundry was sold Wednesday by W. C. CRAWFORD to WALTER GIBBINS and F. H. BROWN of Lawton, and the new owners expect to take charge Monday morning. Both are experienced laundrymen and at one time, Mr. Gibbins was part owner of the local plant. Rock Island Ry. Protests City Tax The Rock Island Railway Company, together with the Southwest Bell Telephone Company, and several other corporations have paid the first half of their Waurika city tax under protest, alleging that all in excess of 29 mills is illegal…. YODER-WHITE A very pretty home wedding was solemnized Wednesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. YODER, when their daughter, LENNA MAYE, was joined in marriage with WALTER L. WHITE of Hobart. The ceremony took place in the morning in the living room of the Yoder home which was festive with basket and bowls of roses and garden flowers. In the presence of only immediate family and MRS. GOLDIE DENNIS, an intimate friend of the bride, the REV. THOMAS DOSS, pastor of the First Baptist Church, read the beautiful ring ceremony. The bride wore an orchid georgette dress over canary satin with a big picture hat of the same lovely tints and carried a shower bouquet of bride's roses and lilies of the valley. Immediately following the ceremony and congratulations, the happy couple left for a motor wedding trip which will include a visit with relatives at Wichita Falls, and a stay at the Editor's Club House in Medicine Park. The bride's going away costume was of black satin crepe with trimmings of powder blue and silver, with hat and other dress accessories to match. Mrs. White has grown to womanhood in Waurika where she has been very popular in church and social affairs. Possessed of unusual musical talent, combined with an aptitude for literary pursuits, she passed through the local high school and graduated very young. The past three years she has been a student at O. C. W. where she has continued her study of music, majoring however in English and where she has made a place for herself in the scholastic affairs of the college as well as social life. With her talents and personal charm she is well fitted for a life's companion. Mr. White, while a stranger to most Waurikans, made a number of friends while here. He comes from an old and well known family at Chickasha and had held various positions of trust. He specialized in college for newspaper work and at present is advertising manager of the Democrat Chief and Kiowa County Review, both papers being edited at Hobart where he has a home in readiness for his bride. Attend Program at Mountain Home Friday The school at Mountain Home east, proved itself a very capable host Thursday night of last week when, aside from the patrons of the school and community, members of the Business and Professional Women's Club and of the Community Builders of Waurika were invited to spend the evening at the school auditorium, which is equipped with electric lights, fans and all the modern conveniences of the city schools. The program for the evening was given by members of the junior Home Demonstration Club, which was very ably directed by the teachers at Mountain Home. The first part of the program was given over to the club which conducted a business meeting at which time an expression of appreciation to the Community Builders and the B. P. W. was read in regard to the day's entertainment given the county rural school clubs in their final try-out at Waurika. Aside from the club program, there were a number of rousing songs led by MISS RUBY GIBSON, a Junior Club member. Sugden Items JOHN PLANK and family returned home after a stay with their folks at Healdton. ARCH WILLIAMS has returned home from Madill where he was called to the bedside of his mother who died there last Tuesday. Cornish Gleanings MRS. MELISSA BAKER died at her home in Healdton Sunday and the body was conveyed to the Dixie cemetery for burial. The deceased was in her 53rd year and had resided in this community for eleven years or more. Her husband preceded her some 17 years ago. She leaves eight children to mourn her death. They are: JEFF BAKER of Loco, T. B BAKER of Ringling, C. J. BAKER of Wirt, H. L. BAKER of Healdton, MRS. PEARL WEATHERS of Wirt, ELLEN BAKER, ZELLA BAKER and ARLIN BAKER, all of Healdton. All the children were present when the end came. We join with the many friends of the lonely and bereaved children in sympathy. DR. BURGESS of Cornish reports the arrival of a fine nine-pound boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE FOLSOM and the little fellow has been christened GEORGE HOYT FOLSOM. The mother and George Jr are getting along fine. A. J. BYRAM of the East Mountain Home community was a business visitor in Ringling Tuesday. He has gone into the chicken business on a small scale and was here to enlarge the feed supply and to get some up-to-date conveniences that make a chicken farm handy. GERTIE MAY MORRIS and little sister ZONA and brother JAMES MORRIS with her cousins BERNIE, ONITA, and H. L. MORRIS and his little sister DORTHA MORRIS visited Cornish friends Sunday. W. A. TALLEY, who has been a helper in the G. C HARRIS stores for several years, has accepted a position with a dry goods and clothing firm at Elk City and left for that place early this week. WILLIE ALLEN and MISS ALLIE O'NEIL, both of Ringling, were united in the Holy bonds of matrimony this week. And then on Monday of this week, OTHAR FURR and MISS GLADYS LENDERMAN, both of Healdton, motored to Ringling and procured a marriage license and were joined in marriage in the presence of friends as witnesses, J. P. WADE officiating. Addington by ALBERT HUFFER M. W. DIMERY and family of Sulney, Nebraska are spending the week with his sister, MRS. J. L .EVANS of our city. Mr. and Mrs. JOHN SMITH left Friday morning for Madill where they were called on account of the death of Mrs. Smith's father, JACK JONES. Mr. JONES was an old resident of this county and highly respected. He had bee in bad health for several months and his death came with deep regret by his many friends who all join in deepest sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. GLENNY Trial at Henrietta This Week CHARLES E. GLENNY charged with killing his son, ROBERT GLENNY. Personal Mention The month old baby of Mr. and Mrs. TOM BIGHAM died Thursday from a complication of pneumonia and whooping cough. A. W. ELWOOD arrived Tuesday from Los Angeles, California to spend a few days visiting his sister, MRS. M. F.
