MORRISON & STORMS, editors Friday, September 4, 1914 Addington Items HERMAN CASTLEBERY of Floyd, Texas came in Tuesday to visit some friends. MRS. J. W MCKENNY and son RICHARD left Tuesday to visit her mother at Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. BILL ADDINGTON, an old timer of Wapanucka, is visiting B. O. ADDINGTON and family. We are sorry to note the death of MRS. HOLLINGSWORTH who lived 7 miles west of town. We did not learn the cause of her death. Mr. Hollingsworth and family have the sympathy of the entire community. REV. RICE, pastor of the M. E. Church, is holding a revival here. DAVE MEAD of Corum was in town and reported crops materially benefited by the recent rains. MR. GRIFFITH who lives near Big Valley school was accidentally thrown from the rear end of a caboose Sunday and severely bruised. Two bales of cotton have been ginned so far this season. While threshing at OSCAR LOFTON’s Wednesday, KERNEY GREEN of Comanche got his arm caught in a belt and badly dislocated. ------------------------------------ B. L. DURHAM is on the sick list C. W. HEACOCK returned from an extended visit with relatives in Iowa. MRS. ALBERT MCKINSTRY returned from a lengthy visit with relatives at points north. W KOOKEN returned from various points in Kansas where she visited relatives. CHARLES DODSON was here last week. J. M. HUDLOW was in Ryan Tuesday. BOB HARRIS is home from a visit with his parents in Texas. MISS MAY BROWN returned to Ryan. A. D. ALLEN was an out-of-town business visitor Monday. MISS RUBY WALKER returned from a visit with relatives at Cordell. MRS. ED MCCANNE and MISS RUBY MCCANNE were visitors at Sugden. MRS. W. D. MCCLURE left to visit relatives at Oklahoma City. County Attorney JAY G. CLIFT went to Chickasha on official business. MISS LORAINE LEVERETT visited friends in Ryan. JOE VELEAU of the Hastings community was here on business. IKE PARSONS has gone out of the poultry business and now on will handle only milk and cream. While swimming in Beaver Creek last Sunday, ED PORTER dived into shallow water and injured himself. MRS. H. W. BAILEY was in town Tuesday and reports everything looking fine. She says she has lots of watermelons. MISS NORA BELL returned home to Texarkana, Texas after a visit here with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. FULLER. FRANK ESTES of Liberty, Missouri is here visiting the families of JOE BALLARD, E. T. CAPPS and other old Missouri friends. J. L. MORGAN went to Anadarko after his car he had to abandon on account of muddy roads while enroute home from Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. P. C. MUNROE returned home to Lawton. Mr. Munroe acted as cashier at the First National Bank during the absence of Mr. ELLIS. G. M. SUTTON came down Saturday from Chickasha to visit his friends and to play checkers. Until recently George had been managing the EARLY Hotel at Chickasha. W. H. DUNNING of Merkel, Texas was here looking for a business location, but had not decided as to his future intentions. MISS RUBY HOBBS is spending the week with her parents at Boswell. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. SNIDER and baby are home after visiting relatives in Kentucky. MRS. W. J. BALLARD has been re-employed to teach the Deer Creek school which will open September 14. MISS M. M. RAUSE arrived from Lawton and has taken charged of the millinery department at PARSONS. Miss Rause bought her goods in the St. Louis and Chicago markets. PERRY HOLT and TOM HENDRICK of Bridgeport, Texas were visiting at REV. J. B PYATT’s home Monday. They were on their way to Lawton to where they have employment in the Lawton cotton compress. JOHN EISELE is home from Arkansas and Missouri where he went with the intention of buying land and locating. Since he has more grass in his front yard than there is in the whole state of Arkansas, John says he is home to stay. REV. H. B. ELLIS came down from near Walters and conducted regular services. J. H. NEWBORN was in town from the Independence community and made us smile by leaving a dollar for the News-Democrat for another year. He takes the News-Democrat and the Dallas Semi-Weekly News for general information. He has been a reader of the Semi-Weekly News for 46 years. J. H. TAYLOR entertained the little folks at her home Saturday evening in honor of her daughter’s seventh birthday. Sixteen little girls and twelve little boys were present. Ice cream and melon were served. Brother THOMPSON, a Christian minister, is holding a two weeks meeting at Loco, which was well attended by Asphalutm people: J. H. TAYLOR and family, M. SELLERS and family, MAX NOLEN, PAT NICKLE, MISS STALLINGS, and MISS MCCOY were among the number who went. PROF. J. M. DYER, county superintendent, made us a nice political speech Saturday night. He was accompanied by Mr. SPIVY, MR. EASTERLING, MR. HOWARD, and MR. HAMILTON, all of whom made a short talk. Little MISS CHARLIE MAE HIGHTOWER had her birthday party Monday evening. She was 6 years old and 26 little girls and 5 little boys attended. 13 of the little girls attended her fifth birthday party one year ago. The STALLINGS boys have been baling hay for several days. BILL NELSON is cutting and binding maize for O. L. MADDOX this week. J. R. HANKS has a new binder and is making good use of it. MISS CORA GILLILAND and MISS BESSIE MCCOY visited the MISSES STALLINGS. JOHN COX has gone to Fort Worth to reside. C. J. ROGERS, manager of driller of the well in section 32, accompanied by his wife, left for Wichita Falls to remain for several days. MRS. LON BURTON entertained a number of young people Tuesday night. ENNIS SELLERS and MISS WILLIE SELLERS, his sister, attended church at Loco. MRS. STALLINGS and MRS. PRICE is doing business at Jacksboro, Texas this week. MRS. J. L. PRICE spent the week with friends at Ryan. BOB GIBSON and ROGER GOLDEN made a trip through the eastern part of the county and Stephens County. DAVE BRIDGES and JACK TERRELL of Waurika were blowing around our town Tuesday. CLAUDE EASTERLING was in Lawton attending a convention for county clerks and county treasurers. MRS. ELBERT SMITH returned to her home at Denton, Texas after a visit here with the HUDDLES. MRS. LELA LONDON and MISS WILLIE RICHARDS spent last week with friends on a camping trip near Ryan. W. I. The singing given at the home of MR. ROBINSON Saturday night was well attended and every one seemed to enjoy themselves. NORA RIDDELS of Comanche is visiting her grandmother MRS. J. CASSADY. MRS.
