A. WATSON’S new store building. Material for an oil derrick has been put on the ground 2 ½ miles from town. Drilling will begin soon. ISAAC ROBERTS returned from a visit to northern Oklahoma. A.F. SCIVALLY returned from Ardmore accompanied by oil producers. MRS. MAUD MATHEWS and her Sunday School class dined away from home. T. P. TURNER of Cornish is painting the new store building. Mr. and Mrs. HARVEY ALLRED Entertain A large number of Cornish folks gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. HARVEY ALLRED last Friday for entertainment with music and dancing. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. B .JACKSON, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. KIDWELL, Mr. and Ms. GEORGE SIMON, Mr. and Mrs. WESLEY THOMPSON, Mr. and Mrs. W. C WOOD, MISSES MALLIE JOHNSON, HELEN DENNIS, BLANCHE DULANEY, MARTHAN BIFFLE, and Messrs. ARTHUR MORRIS, FRED GILLEY, PETE MCCANN and HAMP HARWELL. Cemetery working will be April 23. Bring dinner and tools. W. A HARWELL of Hatfield, Arkansas, who has been visiting his son W. P. here, returned home. Singing at Joiner The citizens of Joiner gave a singing for the benefit of the surrounding area last Sunday which was attended by hundreds of people from Ardmore, Hewitt, Healdton, Reck, Waurika, Cornish, and other adjoining towns. Dinner was served to the whole crowd by the Joiner ladies and the singing as a whole was pronounced a success. T. A. HARWELL of Hatfield, Arkansas arrived last week. He is a brother to W. P. HARWELL here and intends to make Cornish his home. He will go into the real estate business. MRS. JACK MULLER returned to Weatherford after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. STEVENS for several months. MS. OLLIE DALY of Lowell is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. HARWELL. S. H. OGILIVIE went to Ardmore on business. HUGH COTNER of Waurika accepted a position as salesman with G. C. HARRIS here. VAL HORTON was here to leave an advertisement and job work with the News. He stated that he and his brother intended to sell out their merchandise stock at Hewitt to the BENNETT Bros. Mr. and Mrs. M. F. DAVIS of near Loco were here. CHARLEY PADGETT of Waurika was a Cornish visitor. MISS BLANCHE DULANEY visited friends in Waurika. MRS. G. C. HARRIS went to Waurika. MISS JOHNNIE CHAPMAN and mother of Grady were in Cornish. MISS UNA MORRIS of Waurika visited her sister MRS. C. A. DULANEY here and attended the singing convention at Joiner. Mr. and Ms. R. O. DULANEY spent Sunday with her parents who live four miles west of Cornish. April 18, 1913 Cornish News Changes Management The management changes from A. MCCRORY who founded the paper in 1909 to C. W. WOOD, who has been assistant editor for the past two years. Mr. and Mrs. SHURLEY HOLMAN Entertain A party was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. SHURLEY HOLMAN, who live a few miles northeast of Cornish, last Friday to which their friends were invited. The evening was spent with music, cards and dancing. Distinguished Veterinary Here DR. G. F. WEAVER of Holloway, New Mexico is in Cornish doing veterinary work for the community. Party at Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES HARRIS The friends of Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES HARRIS met at their home Monday night and were enjoyably entertained until a late hour with music, cards and dancing. Guests were: Mr. and Mrs. C. A. DULANEY, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. CLOUGHLEY, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. WOOD, MISSES BLANCHE DULANEY, MALLIE JOHNSON, MARTHAN BIFFLE, and HELEN DENNIS, and Messrs. PETE MCCANN, EARL MORRIS and JOHN BIFFLE of Waurika, GEORGE CROOMS, HUGH COTNER, A. A. MORRIS, A. H. FOLSOM, HAMP HARWELL, FRED GILLEY and GEORGE BATEMAN. Big Gas Well in Stephens County The Diamond Oil Company composed of CHARLEY COLCORD, G. B. STONE, MR. GALLOWAY and others of Oklahoma City who have been operating in Stephens County for some months brought in a big gas well Friday. The gas was found at 650 feet. Loco Home Talent Play Is Put on in Cornish The Loco Opera Troupe, composed entirely of young Loco folks, visited Cornish Saturday and favored with us a production of “The Frozen Trail.” The play was witnessed by a large audience. The net profits will go to the general church fund of the town. Hewitt, April 14Gardens are growing nicely. Hewitt has a lively literary and debating society which meets every two weeks. A good many people attended the singing at Joiner. DR. R. C. AMOS went to Texas to busy a carload of milk cows. MRS. HOLDER, mother of NEWT HOLDER, died last week about five miles south of Hewitt and was buried here. GEORGE DRUMMOND and family moved to Lone Grove. The work on the new Methodist Church is going right on. J. F. SOTTS, prominent banker and business man of Loco, and family spent the weekend with his brother SIM STOTTS and family. JOSEPH T. CLARK of Loco was here Saturday. J. A. BRATE and MISS ANNIE ROFF of Loco were here. FRANK TUCKER and MARY MORGAN of Loco attended “The Frozen Trail” presentation here. FRANK RUSSELL, O. C. EWIN, PERRY NEWTON and CLYDE TRANVILLE of Loco attended the play here. DR. NIXON and wife of Loco were here. CHARLES STOTTS of Loco, formerly of here, visited here. RICHARD HOGAN of Waurika spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. HOGAN. MRS. W. F. MEGGINSON and MISS CLARA TURLEY, both of Waurika, were Sunday visitors here. JAKE HAMONS of Lawton passed through. VINCE REYNOLDS is here with his automobile hauling passengers from points on the Rock Island to the new oil well 2 ½ miles southwest of Loco. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. HENRY of Loco were also here. Born to Mr. and Mrs. J. F. HUDSON, Monday, April 4, a fine baby girl. J. H. CORNISH, wife and daughters LELA and OMA were shopping in Ardmore. REYNOLDS of Joiner with his sister MISS EVA came to see the play. County Superintendent L. WADE was here on official business. Mr. and Mrs. ARTHUR MATTHEWS of Orr visited friends here. T. P. TURNER, who has been at Orr painting the new business building of Mr. WATSON, spent the weekend here. REV. JOSEPH F. RUSSEL, professor of the Grady public school, visited friends here. J. C. STUART of Loco was here to attend the play. Mrs. W. F. MCQUAID, who has been visiting relatives in Westphalia, Kansas for several weeks, returned home. EMMETT SELLERS of Ashphaltum attended The Frozen Trail play. MISS CALLIE DAY, who is local operator for the Pioneer Telephone Co. at Waurika, visited her mother here. Postmaster F. M. TAYLOR left Monday for points on the Rock Island to visit relatives. FRANK SCIVALLY of Or came through Cornish en route home from Oklahoma City where he purchased an Overland automobile. JAMES HAMONS of Lawton, with E. J. KELLY and J. L. MORGAN of Waurika, looked the real estate over here. H. M. WILLIAMSON went to Ardmore on business. REV. GEORGE W. LEWIS of Ardmore, who held services here for ten days, returned home. PETE HENRY and wife of Loco attended the play. CLAUDE HARVEL of Loco was a member of the Loco Opera Troupe. MISS GRACE ROFF of Loco was with the Loco Opera Troupe. April 25, 1913 Hewitt Happenings Little Miss DUCAL CARSBIE has measles. DR. H. AMOS went to make his home at Aubrey, Texas. MISS ETHEL BANKS, principal of the Pleasant Grove school, visited the home of Professor HOLCOMB Saturday and was a guest of MISS HELEN GOFF Sunday. There was a debate at the school house Friday night by the Literary Society on the subject “resolved the world is growing better.” G. W. RUSSEL, ROY CARMICKEL, and C. W. HOLCOMB for the affirmative; BERT WILLINGHAM, W. C. WEST and A. T. GOODSEL denying. BRO. BARTON preached to a large audience. MRS. E. S MARTIN and little son HAROLD returned from a pleasant visit to her brother B. M. WILLINGHAM. FRANK WARD left for Aransas Pass, Texas to visit his father CHARLES WARD. Not Guilty Verdict of Jury Last Thursday night, while out for a good time, a number of Cornish youths wandered through the south part of town and disturbed the peace of the Cornish Orphans Home. The next morning a case was filed in the justice court, charging EARNEST RONAD, RAYMOND GILLEY, OTIS FOLSOM, FRED DUNKIN, TOM MCCOY, EMUEL MCKASSON, ARTHUR WHITMORE and a boy named HOWSER of disturbing the public peace. The trial was help Monday with DILLARD prosecuting and SPRADLING defending. The jury returned not guilty. Two cases were heard in justice court Monday. One was JADE PARKER who plead guilty to assault, paid $5. MISS J. L. MEYER of Oklahoma City, who is a state solicitor for the Cornish Orphans Home, was here looking through the home. DR. CRANDFIL, prominent physician at Grady, was here. Prof. JOE BRYAN, principal of our school, attended the ball tame between the Cornish and Loco second teams at Loco. ED COOPER of Atlee was here. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. DOWNING of Ardmore are the proud parents of a baby girl born Sunday, April 20. Joiner Jiggles W. R. INGRAM of Oklahoma City was here on business. HARRISON DODDS and family visited D. H. TIPPS and wife. REV. R. M. PUGH of Hewitt held services here. MISS EVA REYNOLDS of Durant, who has been visiting her brother Prof. O. C. REYNOLDS who teaches at Joiner, returned home. Our school is under management of Prof. O. C. REYNOLDS and MISS CLYTIE INGRAM. CHARLES JONES of Hewitt was here on business. (Joiner correspondent is not identified) Mr. and Mrs. LEE HEIGLE of Loco were here. At present, Mr. Heigle is farming. G. W. JOHNSON visited the Loco oil fields with a load of passengers who wished to visit the new well. MRS. E. N. VOIR of Oklahoma City was here looking at the Cornish Orphans Home. E. P. DANIELS of Atlee placed his name on the subscriber’s list. R. WELCH of Atlee was here on business. DAN PITTS of Atlee was here on business. Orr Observations Mr. TERRY was here looking after his oil business. T. J. DENEGAN of Terral and Mr. THOMAS of Oklahoma City, both real estate men, were here on business. CAPT. ELPSA(?), our oil king, is making his headquarters here. SAM LANGLEY and daughter of Rubottom were here in their new car. R. G. and R. L. LANDRETH of Joiner were shopping here. MRS. STELLER and OLA WILLIAMS were shopping here. TOY TURNER finished painting the Masonic hall this week. H. A .WATSON was in Ardmore on business. A.F. SCIVALLY came from Ardmore with his wife and little daughter AILEEN. MRS. W. C. WOOD and MISS BLANCHE DULANEY of Cornish were here and secured a large number of subscribers to the News. MRS. H. A. WATSON visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. CATES at REck. CLEM TAYLOR and MISS GRACE PATTON attended the teachers meeting at Marietta. TOM GOLDSMITH of Atlee visited here for business. Orr Observations for April 14 DAVE GRIFFIN returned home from Marlow. HENRY DORSETT says he would have to leave home if frost had ruined his garden as Mrs. Dorsett is on the war path. The baby of Mr. and Mrs. JESS BROWN died last week. The funeral was at Crow. A.F. SCIVALLY was in Ardmore. Esq. ROBERTS transferred some real estate at Waurika. MRS. WALTER HODGES must be a good cook as Prof. CLEM TAYLOR comes over every Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. WALTER HODGES, Mr. and Mrs. HENRY DORSETT and Miss GRACE PATTEN were out visiting Sunday. MISS MABLE EDWARDS returned from Marietta. ISAAC ROBERTS says his store building will soon be vacant and have to give room to larger buildings. It was built 18 years ago and has had three additions to it. DAVE WEST of Healdton was in Cornish on business and subscribed to the News. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. MCQUAID went to Waurika. J. H. LOCKWOOD of Orr was here. Last Sunday morning, while attending to the chickens at her home in south Cornish, MRS. F. C. STEVENS fell and got severe injuries, but she is now able to be around. B. T .PRICE, L. WALKER, PATON DUNKIN, and T. W. TARKENTON of Waurika were here. Mrs. ORA RANKIN, who visited her sister MRS.
