C. M. ELDER, who was the first assistant in the Cornish public school last term, has purchased of W. C. DOWNING his furniture and undertaking business here. Mr. Downing came to Cornish over five years ago and has been in the furniture and undertaking business continually since that time and has succeeded in building up a good business. He sold his home here last summer, his family moved to Ardmore. Mr. Downing remained here to conduct the business. He has been one of our most progressive citizens. Mr. Elder has made hundreds of friends since coming here and will be a progressive business man. Lund Gets Whole Cheese C. H. LUND and C. D. SADLER, both of Waurika, and R. T. FLINT of Seymour, Texas came over on the mail car last Tuesday. All are in the lumberyard business and came to take inventory of the two lumber stocks belonging to KENDALL-FLINT Lumber Co. and the South Texas Lumber Co. The lumber yards have been bought and converted to one management of C. H. LUND. W. W. WOODWORTH and HARVEY ALLRED have lost their positions and A. M. DULANEY, manger of the original Lund lumber yard, will continue to manage the now one lumber yard here. Mr. and Mrs. A. MCCRORY spent the Fourth with friends in Waurika. MRS. HADEN WILSON of Lone Wolf is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. NEWMAN. D. M. BRIDGES of Waurika accompanied wash Hudson here last Tuesday. GEORGE PHILLIPS, who lives three miles south of town, was here Saturday with some roasting ears from his corn field and divided them among his friends. Mr. Phillips has the earliest corn in the country. Dr. D. M. BOND, who came to Cornish a short time ago from Grady where he taught school during the winter, is preparing to locate at Marietta and practice dentistry. Busted The Co-operative Store Company of this city, operated by the Socialists, has been taken over as receiver by BEN HOLT, at the request of the PENNINGTON Wholesale Grocery Co. From the Ardmore Statesman. W. L. CARSON of Grady was in Cornish and called at the News office. DR. M. BRADSHAW went to Waurika on the mail car then to Letonia, Ohio to visit relatives. MRS. ABBIE HOLLAND of Bowie, Texas is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. RACHEL. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. WILSON, three miles southwest of town, entertained friends in their home last Saturday night. CARTER was called to Sunset, Texas by the illness and death of his brother. He returned, accompanied by MRS. ELSIE CARTER, widow of the deceased. Birthday Party MRS. J. P. DULANEY gave a birthday party in honor her son VALTON who turned six years old. Those present were PATIE BOND, MARGUERITE BOLES, MENTA HARPER, LUCILLE MCCRORY, ANNA MAUD BRYAN, ELOISE BRYAN, LENA B. Hewitt News The little daughter of Mr. CARMON who lives about four miles northwest of here died last Sunday afternoon and was buried at Hewitt Monday. Mr. Carmon lost his wife about two months ago. Mrs. DR. TIDMORE has been ill. DR. CANTRELL made a professional visit to Claypool. BRADLEY BURNS, son of R. J. BURNS, is here on a visit with relatives. This is the first time Bradley has been back in a number of years; he resides at San Antonio. MRS. A. L. KIRKPATRICK and daughter MISS MABEL of Richmond, Missouri are visiting here and looking after property interests. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. WILLIAMS returned to Iowa after visiting relatives here. Back to Cornish W. S. GILLEY and his family returned to Cornish from a farm near Grady. Mr. Gilley came to Cornish some six years ago and has been engaged in blacksmithing until he became enamored with farm life and tried his hand at farming. He reports he had a fine crop and does not regret his venture. He is one of the best mechanics in the area and his many friends welcome him back. Surprise Party A pleasant evening was spent last Monday when several young people gathered at the home of MISS BLANCHE DULANEY, then proceeded to the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. HARRIS in south Cornish where they were heartily welcomed by the much surprised host and hostess. The time was delightfully spent in dancing and conservation, music from the player piano provided music for the dancers. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. H. M. KIDWELL, MISSES BESSIE and BERTIE MCCOY of Ardmore, ANNIE, KITTIE and GRACE STEWART of Gainesville, Texas, ALTA and HELEN DENNIS, VIDA JACKSON, MALLIE JOHNSON, BLANCHE and BERTIE DULANEY, AUDREY PRUITT and Messrs. Three Boys Hurt Last Monday at the home of MART HINES near Claypool, one of his little boys and two of S. E. DICKEY'S little boys got a dynamite cap that had been put away in the house. In handling the cap, it was dropped, exploded and put out one eye of the little Hines boy and seriously injuring the Dickey boys about the head and chest. Mr. Dickey was here attending Trade Day when he received news by telephone and hurried home. The boys were taken to Waurika for medical help. J. R. and NED TRUE of Ryan attended the Trade Day here. MRS. MONA DALLAS of Dallas, Texas is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. WILSON three miles southwest. BOB HARPER, C. A. DULANEY, PETE MCCANN, SID SMITH and others spent the Fourth in Waurika. TALIAFERRO, being duly sworn, that he is personally acquainted with J. W. BIFFLE, and has sold him several head of cattle, always finding him reliable… Mr. Biffle was in no way connected with the stealing of the cattle that Black and Reed drove from Orr to near Grady and sold them to H. A. KERLEY, then sold to JOE EVANS…. Mr. Biffle had no hand in the stealing and helped me (TALIAFFERRO) in recovering the cattle. July 26, 1912 Reynolds-Taylor At the home of the groom's grandfather, J. T REYNOLDS, last Thursday night, July 18, VINCE REYNOLDS and MISS DORA TAYLOR were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, REV. FRANIS M. TAYLOR officiating. Mr. Reynolds has been in the employ of the Pioneer Telephone Co. several months as night operator at their local exchange here. Miss Taylor was a resident of Texas until recently. The young people of Cornish gathered at the home of J. T REYNOLDS Saturday night, July 10, and gave the young couple a linen shower. At 3:00 Wednesday afternoon, the residence of W. R. INGRAM, who resides four miles northeast of town, caught fire and burned to the ground before aid could be summoned. He was alone and cooking when the fire caught from a damaged flue. The building was one of the largest residences in this part of the country, containing about 20 rooms, built 13 years ago and known as Ingram Lane. W. H. SHELTON and Mr. MITCHELL of Hastings were in Cornish buying hogs. BRADFORD-HUNTER Last Friday, July 10, Justice of the Peace W. C. HOGAN performed the ceremony which united R. L. BRADFORD and MISS DORA HUNTER, both of Asphaltum as husband and wife. Both were well known and have many friends who congratulate them. MRS. C. A DONNER of Penile, Texas is the guest of her brothers, J. L. and T. S.
