L. COPPICK of Walters were in Lawton Sunday where Father FRANCES MURPHY of that city celebrated First Mass, having been ordained into the priesthood the preceding Sunday at Oklahoma City. Father Murphy is only 26 years old, was graduated from the Lawton High School at age 16, and finished his course of study for the priesthood at St. John's University in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. BILL MURPHY of Lawton and will be assistant pastor of the Shawnee Catholic Church. The occasion was celebrated by the Murphy family with a banquet served at the Lawton church Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. FRANK SWARTIE of Lawton, Mr. and Mrs. HENRY MURPHY of Oklahoma City, and Mr. and Mrs. A. D. CUMMINS of Chattanooga, hosts. Mrs. Swartie and Mr. Murphy being sister and brother of the honoree and Mrs. Cummins a cousin. Among the out of town guests were a brother MIKE MURPHY of Alberta, Canada, a cousin Mrs. SARAH MCLANE of Kansas City, a brother HENRY MURPHY and family of Borger, Texas, and Father Murphys's football coach who made the long journey to be present. Waurika Boy Heads Big Theatre Staff Hobbs, New Mexico has a new $80,000 theatre, The Reel, under the management of WAYNE PATTERSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. BILLIE PATTERSON who grew up here. . Wayne has been in Hobbs the past year. Heavy Wind Storm Visits This Section A stiff tornado wind swooped down on this section Friday night and left destruction for miles around. .. Mrs. L. F. BREUER / BREWER, an aged woman living in the Lone Star community west of Waurika and in the east edge of Cotton County, was instantly killed when the storm struck the Brewer farm. Mr. Breuer was severely injured and died the next morning. . Funeral services were held for Mr. and Mrs. Breuer at Temple Tuesday morning. In the Lone Star and Mountain Home communities west of Waurika, perhaps the greatest damages were done. Among the homes that were demolished were those of HOYT KYSER, FINIS BLAY, J. M. YOUNG, SAM WOOTEN, CECIL CHANDLER, SINAS SEXTON, WALTER BEAVERS, CHARLES KERR, PHILLIP MCNEELY, GEORGE MCNEELY, HERMAN FELTERS and W. S. WILLIAMS. The good people of Hastings came quickly to the rescue of the homeless people. Merchants raised cash and women of the town collected and delivered clothing for those who needed it. Capt. J. AD WYLIE of the CCC camp at Duncan came to the rescue with a group of the CCC boys who worked to gather up the debris, rebuild houses, erect tents, bury the stock, erect fences and help the people. The county welfare organization at Waurika, Mrs. PETERS in charge and Miss HETTIE BELL PATTERSON as case worker, worked untiringly. Damage in Waurika was to the hospital. Dr. COLLINS estimated a loss of $1500...A house in the north part of town owned by C. E. PHILLIPS and occupied by the L. J. TRIPP family, lost large part of the roof. The Trip family were in the house but escaped injury. Heavy damage was to the roof of the J. M. DYER home and the C. E. PHILLIPS and S. S. OSBORNE homes. Homes east of town completely wrecked includes those of BUD FOWLER, CARL and VERNATOR MITCHELL and JOHN HUTCHINSON, damage at the GROVER WHITE place. The teacherage of the Beam school was wrecked. The WILLIE GREEN home northwest of town was struck by lightning and burned to the ground with all contents. The place of Miss HATTIE KNIGHT, southwest of town, was damaged. Landons Coming Home A.E. "DADDY" LANDON writes from Los Angeles, California where he and his wife with Mr. and Mrs. ELMO POE have been vacation are having a grand time. They visited GEORGE SUTTON, formerly of Waurika, now at Inglewood, and his family, now doing fine financially. They have been guests of BILLY, who lives with COY, and made a name for himself in Hollywood through musical plays and scenarios. The youngest POE son, BILLY, lives with Coy and there's COY'S small son "POEDY." FHA Takes Loan Applications $600,000 in new real estate loans through Federal Housing Administration. personnel here includes Mrs. NELLIE L. GARRETT as interviewer and MARGIE WOOD as secretary. Father Asks Aid CLARK C. MCMURRY of 3221 Olive Street in Kansas City, Missouri, is sending out a call for aid in locating his son, BEN MCMURRY, age 20 years. He is wanted to communicate with family due to illness in the family. Supervised Play for Our Boys With 53 boys from ages 8 to 21 reporting for the first day of summer supervision play program directed by DICK PRYOR, high school principal and athletic coach. Pioneer Physician Visits Dr. and Mrs. JAMES P. PEARCE and children of this city are happy over having his father, Dr. J. H. PEARCE of Faulkner, Tippah County, Mississippi, as their guest. Dr. J. H. PEARCE, 65 years old, has been a practicing physician in Faulkner for the past 42 years. His father, Dr. LAWRENCE SIMS PEARCE, also a physician, established his practice at Faulkner in 1874. He was also born in Tippah County and was away only while attending medical schools at Louisville, Kentucky for three years, 1871 to 1874 when he practiced medicine in Arkansas. Going back another generation, Dr. L. S. Pearce's father, Dr. WILLIAM HENRY PATRICK PEARCE was a practicing physician. He was a native of England and a graduate of medical school of the University of Pennsylvania in 1845 and immediately settled in Tippah County where his son, Dr. L. S. PEARCE, was born in 1875. In Dr. J. H. PEARCE'S family, there are four sons, tow of whom, Dr. R. S. of Memphis, and Dr. J. C. of Jackson, Tennessee are practicing physicians, and two of whom, Dr. M. B. of New Albany, Mississippi and Dr. PEARCE of Waurika, are dentists. One daughter, Miss FAYE PEARCE, is a graduate nurse. Dr. LAWRENCE SIMS PEARCE died last September at his home in Tippah County, age 88, leaving two sons and two grandsons to carry on his profession. To carry out this tradition, Dr. JAMES F. PEARCE of Waurika also married a graduate nurse. Adventists A series of evangelistic services will be held by IRA C. POUND of Ardmore, assisted by local pastor, J. A. DEAPEN. Old Timers Spend Tuesday in Waurika Waurika was visited by Mr. and Mrs. A. C. EGLE and her mother, Mrs. W. C. SHIMER of Oklahoma City, who called on Mr. and Mrs. M. J. MCGRAW, Mrs. FRANK HUFFMAN, Mrs. VIRGIL DAVIS, Dr. J. L. DERR, Dr. C. M. MAUPIN and other old friends of 30 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. SHIMER and their daughter Mrs. EGLE and Mr. Egle came to Waurika 35 years ago and lived here five years. They were associated with A. E. LANDON, D. E. ACKERMAN, and others in the organization of the Farmers Union Grocery Co.
