Roy Luther Gunter was born January 6, 1900 in Montague County, Texas and was married to Miss GLADYS HARDISON in 1921. To this union three children were born, all boys. He moved to Terral in 1924. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and sons, BERNELL, R. L. and FLOYD; his mother, two sisters, SYBLE GUNTER and Mrs. GEORGE BUSSEY; and four brothers, W. B., O. S. LON and TED. Funeral services were held at the Assembly of God Church Saturday afternoon by Rev. J. L. JONES and Rev. A. F. DUKE of Chickasha. Out of town relatives were attended the funeral were: J. J. GUNTER of Brownfield, Texas, OSCAR GREY and family, D. HARDISON, CLARENCE HARDISON, Mrs. ROSE ROBERTS and Mr. and Mrs. CANE/ CAIN, all of Bowie, Texas, and W. S. GUNTER of Shawnee. LEO N. ALLEN Leo N. Allen was born in Mountain View, Missouri October 16, 1889. When he was three years old, the family moved to Alvord, Texas and two years later, his mother and grandparents came to Terral to make their home. In 1917 he joined the U. S. Navy and served his country for the duration of the war. April 27, 1921, he was married to Miss LENNIS SMITH and to them a son MAX GORDON was born. He had been ailing for several months preceding his death but continued with his work until May 4, when he was taken to a hospital at Wichita Falls where he passed away May 6.He was a devoted husband and a kind and living father and a loyal neighbor. He was a member of the Masonic lodge. Of his immediate family there are only his wife and son to mourn his passing, his mother passed away last October but there are loving friends, a great number, who mourn his passing. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. S. LEE, the pastor, assisted by Rev. HUGHES and Rev. J. L. JONES. Courtney Items Mr. and Mrs. A. G. PRUITT and son GLENN were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. LEE GRANT. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. PRUITT and children and Miss WILLIE MAY and children were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. ROY PRUITT and family. GRANDMA LARGENT has been ill from a paralytic stroke. Mrs. NATHAN SMITH is on the sick list. T. J. PRUITT, who has been living in Waurika, moved to Courtney Flats to make his home with his children. Miss EFFIE PRUITT was a guest of her sister Mrs. ROY WILLIAMS. ARTHUR MAY was at Marietta. Hastings News Mrs. ELIZABETH JONES ELIZABETH CAMPBELL was born December 19, 1859 and died May 10, 1936. She was married to J. F. JONES at Mulberry, Arkansas February 12, 1888 and he passed away August 20, 1933. To them were born six children: Mrs. A. G. ROSE (ACE ROWE in another item), Mrs. G. H. MATHES (GUY MATHER) of Hastings, Mrs. J. A. ROE (JAMES ROWE) of Wichita Falls, J. M. JONES (MONROE) of Moore, GEORGE JONES of Tulsa, and Mrs. ESTHER FISH, who preceded her mother in death. There are 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren besides her children to mourn the loss of a loving mother. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Hastings Baptist Church by the Methodist pastor, Rev. BALL, in the absence of the Baptist pastor. Interment was in the Hastings cemetery. Cornish Gleanings by W. C. HOGAN Timmons-Phillips JOHN S. PHILLIPS and Miss LAVERNE TIMMONS drove to Wilson Friday and were married, the rites witnessed by his sister, Mrs. JOHNNIE CUMMINS, and her husband of Ringling. The bride is a graduate of Ardmore schools and the groom of Ringling schools. He is employed by Magnolia Petroleum Co. of Ada where they will live. W. L. WOODS W. L. WOODS, an old timer of Cornish, died at his home Tuesday of last week. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Cornish cemetery, conducted by Rev. T. F. MORRIS. Mr. Woods had been a resident of Cornish for 40 years and is well and favorably known throughout the county. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. ANNIE WOODS and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Woods were not blessed with their own children and an adopted child passed away several years ago. Nieces and nephews present at his death and funeral were: LEONARD COGDELL of Floydada, Texas, BILL COGDELL and Mrs. J. A. REYNOLDS of Oklahoma City, CHRISTINE and ODIS COGDELL and Mrs. ANNIE BOWMAN and daughter MARY BETH, who are still at the Woods home. Two brothers, EDGAR WOODS of Frederick and E. W. WOODS of Nocona, Texas, survive and were here for the funeral. Other out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mrs. ELIJAH DEFOYD, E. M. WOODS and E. M. Jr. and J. M. SMITH of Frederick, FLOYD WOODS of Waurika, FRED, CECIL and LEE WHTIE and Miss DOVIE WOODS of Davidson, Mrs. EMMA BAST and son DUB WALDEN of Abilene, Texas, and J. COGDELL of Claypool. Gibson-Mead WALTER MEAD and Miss PAULINE GIBSON of Sayre came to Cornish Sunday and were united in holy bonds of matrimony with W. C. Hogan officiating. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. MEAD of Wilson were witnesses. They will make their home in Cornish where he is employed. Friday, May 29, 1936 Society Mrs. F. E. WATKINS Honored To compliment Mrs. F. E. WATKINS, who is leaving this week for Indianapolis where her son MILO WATKINS and family lived and who will leave from there later for Easton, Pennsylvania to spend the summer with her daughters, Mrs. J. BOLTON LOVE and Mr. Love, Mesdames H. W. LEMONS and W. J. LORD were hostesses Saturday night at a picnic supper. Mrs. F. E. WATKINS was again guest of honor Sunday when Mrs. J. S. MIZE and Mrs. J. C. VERTREES were hostesses, entertaining a group of Mrs. Watkins' friends at midday dinner. . Mrs. Watkins, who has been away for several years, has spent nine months in Waurika this time, long enough to find her own place again in various church, social and club circles, and will be sadly missed. She has promised to return this fall to take up life among us again for next winter. Family Reunion There was a big family reunion Sunday in Oklahoma City at the home of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN PIERCE when various members of the OSTERHAUS family gathered for an old fashioned day to be spent in "just visiting." Attention centered in little BARBARA ANN PIERCE, the only grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. OSTERHAUS. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Osterhaus, Miss LORETTA and CLYDE of Waurika, Mrs. JAMES BRADLEY and two sons, Mrs. J. T. TUCKER of Fort Worth, Mrs. J. E. HOLLIS and daughter of Bristow, Mrs. J. S. BUCHANON and Mrs. FRED SHRADER of Norman. Mesdames BRADLEY, TUCKER, HOLLIS, BUCHANON, and SHRADER, all being sisters of Mrs. Osterhous. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. BUD OSTERHAUS of Oklahoma City and Miss ANN KOPELLER of Manhattan, Kansas, who is a niece of Mrs. Osterhaus. Mrs. J. C. WOODS Mrs. J. C. WOODS died Tuesday of last week at the family home in Fort Worth. Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon at the Fort Worth funeral home and were conducted by Rev. D. WADE SMITH, pastor of the Turner Memorial Baptist Church. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mrs. KATHERINE HELEN WOODS was 25 years old. She is survived by her husband and two small children, ANITA SUE and LARRY, a sister Mrs. WILLIAM MILLER of Gotebo, and two brothers, TOMER ARLNGTON of Carnegie and VERNON ARLINGTON of Sylvan, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Woods and children lived in Waurika for some time two years ago and she was a member of the Ladies' Choral Club and took an active part in the music. Mrs. LOTTIE LATHAM Mrs. Lottie Latham, for many years a resident of the Irving community south of Waurika, died May 19 in a Lawton hospital. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Geronimo the following day with interment in the Walters cemetery. Mrs. Latham was born January 26, 1880 in Cooke County, Texas. She grew to young womanhood and was married August 14, 1904 to FRANK LATHAM of Forestburg, Texas, where they lived several years. They came to Oklahoma in 1918 and settled on a farm east of Terral where they lived two years. Then they moved to the Irving community, residing there until six years ago, when Mrs. Latham and the children moved to Geronimo. Last year they moved to Lawton where they were living when Mrs. Latham passed away as the result of burns suffered May 9 when she came into the house to light the oil stove when it exploded. She was taken to the hospital and seemed to show signs of recovery, so much that her sister Mrs. W. T. SKINNER of Waurika, who had been called to her sister's bedside, returned home. Mrs. Latham was a member of the Assembly of God church. She is survived by her aged father, J. C. MCCRACKEN, 89 years of age, of Electra, Texas and by her ten children, MINNIE, BEATRICE, WOODROW, SONNY, Mrs. BILLY WALLS, Mrs. EARL ALEXANDER, all of Lawton, Mrs. FRED HOLCOMB of Walters, Mrs. ED WOODS of Temple, KING and BOB LATHAM of Geronimo. There are five brothers, F. R., J. N. and C. C. MCCRACKEN all of Electra, Texas, J. L. MCCRACKEN of Wellington, Kansas and J. E. MCCRACKEN of Bowie, Texas; and two sisters Mrs. MAGGIE PENLAND of Lawton and Mrs. SKINNER of Waurika. Mrs. L. W. MYERS Mrs. L. W. MYERS died Saturday, May 23 after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Adventist Church and were conducted by Elder DEEPEN, and interment was in the Addington cemetery by the side of her mother who passed away several years ago. MARTHA ELLE SWARNES was born in Illinois in 1875. While still a child, she moved with her parents to Butler, Missouri where she grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage June 10, 1894 with L. W. MYERS. To them was born a son who lived only seven months. His passing left them childless through the years. After living at Butler for two years, Mr. and Mrs. Myers came to Texas and from there into Jefferson County in 1905 where they lived continuously. They bought a farm north of Waurika and lived here until three years when they moved into town. Mrs. Myers was converted in 1894 and has lived a Christian life. Her husband, with whom she had lived and loved, worked and played, wept and laughed, through 42 years of married life. She had been ill for about six months. She is survived by her husband, two sisters Mrs. H. H. STRADER who lives northwest of Waurika, and Mrs. EDITH KELLY of Pasadena, California; and a brother, W. A. SWARNES who lives near Rich Hill, Missouri. CARL BENNETT Dies in Motorcycle Crash CARL BENNETT, dancing teacher at Duncan and well known in Waurika, died Sunday afternoon in a Duncan hospital as a result of a fractured skull sustained when he was hurled from his motorcycle about five miles east of Lawton Sunday morning. His wife, Mrs. OSCEA GRUMBLES BENNETT, who was riding in the basket of the motorcycle, is in serious condition at Patterson hospital in Duncan.Funeral services were conducted at Duncan Sunday afternoon by Rev. CARL COVEY, pastor of the Duncan Christian Church. Interment was in Duncan cemetery. Judge S. L. SPIVEY in Court Report RAY FOWLER $25 and 15 days in jail WALTER FOWLER the same CHARLES KENNEDY and OSCAR MCMURTRY got 15 days in jail NOBLE TIDWELL 30 days plus costs GEORGE ROGERS 30 days plus costs June 5, 1936 Old Timers Meet Two old timers met on the streets of Waurika Sunday and enjoyed jokes that dated 50 years ago. GEORGE ANDREWS and ANDREW KEY, whose parents farmed the IOSH HOWARD tract where the town of Bonita now stand s on the Sherman-Wichita Falls branch of the Katy RR, which crosses Montague County and follows the meandering of Farmers Creek from Saint Jo to Nocona. In 1884 CARTER KEY, father of ANDREW KEY, and Col. JAMES GAINES, stepfather of GEORGE ANDREWS, had a corn crop with just a turning row to separate the two crops. Mr. Key's team turning at the turnrow stepped on and broke a couple of stalks of corn that George and BILL ANDREWS and on making the discovery, George and Bill proceeded to cut down a couple of rows of corn on the Gaines crop and when the Andrews boys discovered this, they cut down four rows of the Key crop, the scrap by that time beginning to run into something like a riot then stopped when Mr. Key and Col. Gaines discovered it. . Until the meeting of the two old friends, it had been more than 25 years since the last meeting in 1908 when Andrews was section foreman at Ryan. Andrew Key worked for him during the high water as teamster and furnished several teams in rebuilding the fill that had washed away. Both now live in Waurika. Woman Killed When Car Leaves Highway Mrs. J. T. NELMS, age 63 years, wife of a pioneer Chattanooga, Oklahoma merchant, was killed Thursday afternoon of last week when the car in which she was riding was driven over an embankment on Highway 70 about 6 miles east of Waurika. Mr. Nelms was driving and subject to spells from heart trouble.MILES MURPHY, family friend, accompanied Mr. Nelms to Chattanooga with the body of Mrs. Nelms for the funeral there.
