CLAYTON's mother, who spent the last three months with her, returned to White Face, Texas with her son ERNEST PHILLIPS. Mr. and Mrs. RAYMOND BRASHIER visited Mr. and Mrs. SAM JOHNSON. Texas Community Mr. and Mrs. JACK TURNELL and children of Waurika, and Mr. and Mrs. OSCAR SCOTT and children spent Christmas day at the home of her mother and grandmother, Mrs. MARY E. BRANDON. C. D. BRYAN was sick with the flu. Misses NELLIE and NORABEL RIDDLES returned to Hominy. Mrs. BIRDIE KENDRICK and Mr. and Mrs. GARNEY KENDRICK visited Mr. and Mrs. S. M. BRIDGES. PLESS. y Mrs. WHITWORTH'S Grandmother Died Rev. and Mrs. J. O. WHITWORTH were called to DeKalb, Texas Saturday afternoon where her grandmother, Mrs. S. A. GRISHAM, had passed away after an illness of about ten days. They drove to Boswell where Mrs. Whitworth's mother, Mrs. J. E. WILLIAMSON, and Mr. Williamson, then all went to DeKalb and attended the funeral conducted at the DeKalb Baptist Church and interment in the family plot. Mrs. GRISHAM was 81 years old and was a pioneer of DeKalb. She married at age of 15 and was the mother of ten children, seven of whom survive. There are 40 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, little PHOEBE ANN GROSECLOSE. The five generations were represented by Mrs. GRISHAM, Mrs. WILLIAMSON, Mrs. WHITWORTH, Mrs. HERMAN GROSECLOSE and little Phoebe Ann, each the oldest child of her mother. Mrs. Whitworth, who was born after the death of her father, was ushered into the world in her grandmother's home. Addington by ALBERT NUTTER Mrs. O. F. BEAVERS and son CLEO of Riodosa, New Mexico, visited relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. HINSON and son JIMMIE of Lawton were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. WALTON and family. Mr. and Mrs. T. G. TOWNSEND of Norman visited here. Mr. and Mrs. THEODORE GARRETSON of Gotebo were here. R. C. WHITE had business at Waurika. JOHN HENSLEY of Mineral Wells visited relatives here. W. N. ROOF and daughters MARGIE and JOSEPHINE, were in Comanche. Mrs. JENNIE GARRETSON visited her uncle Z. N. MCGUIRE and family. Miss MARY JO RIDDLES visited Mr. and Mrs. M. D. FRANKLIN then returned to Chickasha. ED GARRETSON of Waurika was here. Miss STIFFIE BRAZENA visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. ANTON BRAZENA then returned to Tyler, Texas. Miss KIMMIE BELL GARRETSON and Miss MERLE PACE were at Waurika. D. E. MORRISON D. M. MORRISON was born June 15, 1861 in Randolph County, Alabama and died December 22, 1935 at the home of his son BILLIE MORRISON near Fleetwood. Funeral rites were held at the Fleetwood school house, conducted by Rev. G. A. ELROD and Rev. YOUNG, pastor of the Fleetwood church, then the body was laid to rest in the Terral cemetery. Mr. Morrison married Miss GEORGIA CHILDRESS in 1880 and joined the Missionary Baptist Church the same year. He and Mrs. Morrison were the parents of four children, all of whom survive, DAVE and BILLIE MORRISON, Mrs. ANNA COCKRELL and Mrs. KATHRYN BARKER. There are 17 grandchildren and a great-grandchild, three brothers and other relatives. He was ordained a deacon in 1890. He moved to Jefferson County in 1925 and made his home with his son Billie. EMMETT CATES EMMETT CATES, a brother of R. H. CATES, was buried Saturday, December 28, at Terral. He was born September 1873 and died December 25 at a hospital at Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Cates was bitten by a black widow spider on Thanksgiving. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral rites were held at the home of BR. H. CATES Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. S. DYE. Friday, January 10, 1936 Town Topics CALL DURHAM had a telegram about the death of his brother-in-law, DICK MCMANN of Tulare, California, who was found dead in his car from monoxide poisoning. Mr. McMann had not been in good health for some time. Mrs. McMann and three children survive; both daughters, MARIAN and MIGNON, are married, and OATIS, the son, lived his parents on the ranch. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. GLAZE of St. Louis, Missouri named their daughter JOHNA MARY, born December 19. The baby is their firstborn of the couple who were married when they graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1928. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. HILLIARD BURKE of Norman, formerly lived at Waurika. She is former Miss MARY RUTH STANDEFER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. STANDERFER. Johna Mary is the first grandchild for the families. G. W. STRAWN G. W. STRAWN passed away January 2 at the family home at Atlee. Funeral services were held at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Ringling the following day with Rev. BIGBY of the Baptist Church officiating. GEORGE STRAWN was born in Georgia December 22, 1858..He came to Indian Territory in the late 1870's and applied for work on the old DRISKELL Ranch, where F. E. DRISKELL'S father, ALONZO DRISKELL, had settled in the Rubottom country. He was a farm and cow hand on the Driskill ranch for several years, then went back to East Texas and married. Returning with his bride, he leased land for a short time when his wife died, leaving an infant daughter. The daughter, now Mrs. SALLIE HORTON of Gladewater, Texas, was reared by Mrs. ALONZO DRISKILL, taken into the Driskill home with their own children after the death of her mother. Mr. Strawn rejoined the Driskill ranch outfit after the death of his wife, and went with the family to Spanish Fort, Texas when they moved from Indian Territory. There, 50 years ago, he married Miss NANCY DRISKILL, and to them were born nine children, all of whom survive: CHARLES, FRANK, NEWEL, TOM, WALTER, FRED, Mrs. MABEL GARDNER, Mrs. J. C. GARDNER, and Mrs. OPAL REYNOLDS. There are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the late 1880's Mr. and Mrs. Strawn returned to Indian Territory and have lived in the Atlee and Courtney Flat community most of the years since. He invested in cattle, starting with a small here, growing in numbers until he owned as many as 200 and 25 horses, besides 400 acres of land. Among the old timers left to mourn his passing are PHIL and JIM DUNFORD, PERRY EARL, LUTE JACKSON, TOM DORSETT, and ALEX HAMMOND, with whom he rode range through the years and with whom there was a lasting bond of affection, fostered by many a round-up. Mr. Strawn was ill for more than a year with leakage of the heart and kidney ailment. Mrs. AVALINE LEBO Mrs. AVALINE LEBO passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. V. M. COCKRELL, at 428 East Broadway, lacking two days being 89 years old. Mrs. Lebo was born at Perry, Canada January 9, 1847 and died January 7, 1936. Funeral services were conducted by Father HARDESTY at the St. Thomas Church, with interment in the Addington Cemetery. She was the mother of three children, Mrs. AVALINE PATTERSON of Aquilla, Texas, J. J. LEBO of Comanche, and Mrs. Cockrell of Waurika. Her husband, JOSEPH LEBO, passed away in the 1890's at Aquilla where the family lived for a number of years after leaving Canada. In 1908 Mrs. Lebo came to Oklahoma to live with Mrs. Cockrell. they have lived in various places in the county and were among the pioneer settlers in the Addington community. Mrs. Lebo was reared in the Catholic faith and it sustained her through two years of illness. Sugden Hi-Times by BEULAH HALL and OPAL GARDNER Miss FRANCES GEORGE resigned as fourth and fifth grade teacher to become the home economics teacher at Ryan high school. She was with the Sugden school three years. A marriage of Miss LAVERNE MAYS and ROY WHITE was conducted by Rev. WHITWORTH of Waurika. The bride finished her sophomore year at Irving Consolidated. He graduated from Sugden in 193? and has driven a school bus for the past five years. Miss KATHERINE REED of the junior class and M. C MARSHALL of Marlow were married December 21. Madden Grove ERNEST GRAHAM moved the farm formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. TOM COTNER, who will move to a farm they bought in the Union community. Mr. and Mrs. FRANK HARLIN will live on the O. E. HARLIN farm. Hastings News by Mrs. EARL STEPHENS Miss ELIZABETH MATHER and CARL PRICE were married Saturday by Rev. OSTEALLAH at the home of Mrs. R. H. SYLLENER in the presence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. GUY MATHER, Mr. and Mrs. ITLOS PRICE, Mrs. R. H. SYLLENDER and mother, Mrs. SELF, and two daughters, PAULINE and BOBBIE. Elizabeth Mather was reared in Hastings. Mr. Price came from Tennessee four years ago and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. IDOS PRICE. Obituary THOMAS JEFFERSON CLINTON was born April 1, 1848 in Middle Tennessee and died January 1, 1936 at Hastings, Oklahoma, age 87 years. He married MARY JANE MAYSE in 1872. To this union 14 children were born and all except one lived to establish homes of their own. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton lived in Middle Tennessee until they moved to Indian Territory in 1903. For the past 12 years he has made Hastings his home. Mrs. Clinton passed away 9 years ago then he made his home with son ADAM. He joined the Church of Christ early. On November 15, he was struck with a cerebral hemorrhage. Surviving him are ten children, five sons and five daughters: JOHN of Lone Grove, GEORGE of Eakly, Texas; WILL of Sterley, Texas; ANDY of Waurika and ADAM of Hastings; Mrs. T. H. LITTLE of Ada; Mrs. C. C. CATTY of Weatherford, Texas; Mrs. SELMA THOMPSON of Marietta, Mrs. C. B. BINGHAM of Ardmore, and Mrs. R. W. BROWN of Olustee. There are 83 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Cornish Gleanings by W. C. HOGAN Mr. and Mrs. LEE STOCKTON, daughters, DONNELL LEE and LOU ELLA of South Central Point community visited his father, L. L. STOCKTON and other relatives in Cornish. They were accompanied home by his sister Miss JESSIE STOCKTON. J. W. MOORE JAMES WYLEY MOORE, who resided in this community for several years, died at his home in Atoka Sunday, December 29, age 57 years 3 months, 13 days old. In early manhood he came to Indian Territory, settling near Durant. He married in 1901 to Miss MAGGIE STRICKLER and to this union six children were born, three having preceded him in death. Mrs. Moore, CLETUS MOORE of Wellington, Texas, LUKE MOORE of Ringling, and Miss MADGE MOORE, a teacher in Atoka school survive. He joined the Presbyterian Church in early life. Funeral services and burial were at Atoka. J. N. MEANS (both James and John are given as his first name) JOHN NEWTON MEANS died Wednesday morning of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. ERNEST PREWITT in the Loco community. Mr. Means was born in Alabama August 3, 1852. He was a farmer and a stockman for several years at Reck in Carter County and had holdings in Stephens County. Funeral services and interment were at Reck, Rev. ROY L. BONNER in charge. Five of ten children survive: CRUCE and CHAMP MEANS of Orr, BAILEY MEANS of Healdton, Mrs. ERNEST PREWITT of Loco, and Miss MARGARET MEANS, a student at Wilson. Friday, January 17, 1936 Mrs. J. T. PRINCE Mrs. J. T. PRINCE passed away after a long period of invalidism, from inflammatory rheumatism and neuralgia of the heart for 15 years. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Church of Christ by the pastor, HARDY E. BAUGH. Interment was at the Waurika cemetery. ANNIE LURENA HENDRICKS was born at Midlothian, Texas May 15, 1877, married J. T. PRICE January 20, 1893 at Montague County, then soon came to Indian Territory, near Grady, after a short stay in Greer County. Since 1903 they have been residents of Jefferson County. Five years ago they moved to Waurika. Mr. and Mrs. Prince had four children. WILLIAM died in infancy; ANDREW of Los Angeles, California, JAMES PRINCE and Mrs. RUBY PRINCE LAIRD, both of Waurika survive with their father to mourn the loss. There are the sons' wives, a son-in-law, several grandchildren, and her mother, Mrs. SUSAN D. HENDRICKS of Roswell, New Mexico; brothers and sisters, GEORGE W. HENRICKS, A. C., W. C. and Y. HENDRICKS of Roswell, New Mexico; E. H. HENDRICKS of Ancho, New Mexico; Mrs. ELLEN BLALOCK of San Antonio, SUSAN OXFORD of Arkansas, SADIE FINLEY of Pie Town, New Mexico, BIRDIE JONES of New Mexico, and Mrs. MINNIE JONES of Erick, Oklahoma. Mrs. Prince joined the Church of Christ in July 1918.. ANDREW PRINCE arrived from Fresno, California to attend his mother's funeral. R. V. POYER of Route 3 is building a fine dairy herd and received from his brother, E. B. POYER, a well known Jersey breeder in southern Oregon, a high bred Jersey bull calf. Town and Country Mr. and Mrs. CLYDE BURCH and daughter BETTY were at Wichita Falls to attend the funeral of Mrs. Burch's father, O. O. O'MARA who died Monday of heart trouble. Mr. and Mrs. FLOYD WOOD, nee Miss OPAL RUTH SPIVEY, have an eight pound daughter, named WANDA FLO, who arrived Sunday morning at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. TOM SPIVEY. Mrs. R. B. ETTER returned from Okeene where she visited her daughter, Mrs. BYRON CORDONNIERE and family. KERMIT WILLIAMSON of Fresno, California was in Waurika, guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. DAVIDSON, C. S. STORMS and other friends. Kermit, son of Mr. and Mrs. BAXTER WILLIAMSON, lived here 23 years ago with his parents, now deceased. He has a ranch of 500 acres near Fresno. Mr. and Mrs. STANLEY GRAYSON and son moved to Frederick where they bought a farm. Their daughter DOROTHY JEAN will join them. Addington by ALBERT NUTTER Mrs. HENRIETTA LANOTTE Mrs. HENRIETTA LANOTTE died December 31, 1935. She had been in ill health for two years, visiting hospitals in Oklahoma and Texas. She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. LEO GREEN. Funeral services were at the Methodist Church by her pastor, Rev. ALBERT SECTORN of Oklahoma City, and LESLIE OLESON at the piano. Active pallbearers were ROBERT SOUTHWARD, ED GARRISON, FITCH BUCHANON and son, LESLIE ORESON, and GEORGE SAMUELS. Miss HENRIETTA LANOTTE was born July 5, 1867 at Leopold, Indiana, moving to Dallas at age of five years. She married a cousin, JOHN LAMBUTH LANOTTE and lived in Dallas until 1913 when they moved to Addington. They were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. ELLIE CHISHOLM of Sulphur and Mrs. MARIE GREEN of Addington. Mr. Lanotte died November 4, 1920, buried at the Addington cemetery. Other survivors are her sons-in-law, ED CHISHOLM and ED GREEN, Mrs. LEONA HITT and her husband J. D., THOMAS EDWIN, CLYDE OLIN, FRANCES LEON and AMY GREEN, grandchildren, and one great-grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Hitt's son. There were also her sister, Mrs. JOSEPHINE FUMAGLI and her family, her brother NICHOLAS LANOTTE and family, all of Post, Texas besides numerous nieces and nephews. Out of town relatives at the funeral were Mrs. FRANK LLOYD, a niece and her son FRANK LEE, GUY LANOTTE, a nephew; Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE CLARK and daughters JOSEPHINE and JACKE LEE of Irving, Texas; Mrs. ANN LEIGHTY of Enid, a sister of Leo Green; Mr. and Mrs. ED GARRISON and daughter CHATTIE and Mrs. ALLIE MCLEMORE and Miss ELLA PARKS of Waurika. JONES and other relatives. W. J. WALKER and HARVE HOLLIS opened a café in Ringling. Mrs. O. E. THOMAS and daughter LELA of Courtney visited her brother ELDON SINGLETON and family. Mrs. JACK CRAWLEY of Odessa, Texas is visiting her aunt Mrs. BOB HARRINGTON in Ringling. In the Carter and Love Counties old radio contest last week in Ardmore, Mrs. HENRY NOLEN of Healdton won the new RCA radio as a prize, given with an old 1920 Dalton radio. JIM KING of Petersburg visited his brother L. M. Monday. HAMP HARWELL of Wichita Falls visited his mother Mrs. IDA HARWELL and other relatives. Dr. W. J. DOSSEY and sons COMER and W. J. Jr. of Cyril were to move some cattle to the farm south of here. Mrs. EMERY PRUNER of Morro Bay, California is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. REX BENSON at County Line and other relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. LEONARD RAPER and THEODORE RAPER, who had lived here many years, moved to southern California. More subscribers; L. D. THOMAS, H. C. BESHEARS, W. N. FREEMAN. Mrs. C. J. HENNIGER, Mrs. O. CANTWELL, in Cornish Tuesday, January 7, aged 76 years. Funeral services were held at the Wilson cemetery by Rev. BIGBY, interment by the side of his wife who preceded him in death by several years. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for 54 years. He is survived by two sons, EDGAR of Wichita Falls and N. E. of Cornish, and one daughter Mrs. ANAN MCBRIDE of Muleshoe, Texas; two brothers, J. A. CANTWELL of Bowie, Texas and A.J. CANTWELL of Jean, Texas. Friday, January 24, 1936 CHARLES R. GAINES C. H. GAINES, Rock Island yardmaster, died Thursday. Mr. Gaines had heart trouble. Funeral services will be at the Methodist Church at Waurika by Rev. J. O. WHITWORTH, assisted by Rev. G. LYLE SMITH and Rev. W. A. ROACH, pending the arrival of son CHARLES. Interment will be in Waurika cemetery. CHARLES H. GAINES was the second son of Captain JESSE H. GAINES and JENNIE OLIVER GAINES. He was born April 25, 1873 at Mishawaka, Indiana in a home built by his grandfather for his grandmother at the time of their marriage, where his mother had been born, grew up and married. Of the parents' family there were two daughters and three sons with one daughter, Mrs. KITTYPIKE of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, a son OLIVER of California, surviving. Other members of the family have passed away. Mr. Gaines grew to manhood at Mishawak, where he felt a lure in following his father's footsteps as a captain of a sailing vessel on the Great Lakes, but switched to railroading. Beginning at age 21 with Santa Fe RR, he worked his way up to serving several year as conductor, then a yardmaster job at Los Vega, New Mexico. In 1911 he came to the Rock Island lines as yardmaster at Herrington and Caldwell, Kansas, El Reno, then in Waurika for nine years. . survived by a son CHARLES of Chicago, only child of a former marriage, his first wife passed away when Charles was a little boy. .. August 27, 1927 Mr. Gaines and Mrs. BETTY ATKINS of Waurika were married. Her children, BONNIE, EDNA and FAYE, grew to love Mr. Gaines as a father, and Mrs. Gaines' granddaughter, BETTY BURCH, was the apple of his eye. Terral items by Mrs. J. H. PEALOR SAM POPEJOY SAM POPEJOY was born in Pope County, Arkansas June 8, 1871 and passed away at the home of his daughter Mr. CLIFFORD STEWART of Longview, Texas, January 16, 1936. He married Miss MATTIE TRUETT in 1889 and to this union, eight children were born, six of whom survive. The body was brought to Terral Friday and laid to rest in the Terral cemetery beside his wife, who died December 10, 1904. Four daughters and two sons survive. They are Mrs. W. E. GOAD of Terral, CHARLES and V. C. POPEJOY of Tatum, Texas; Mrs. W. B. FARRIS of Ponca City, Mrs. K. MCREYNOLDS of Sapulpa, and Mrs. CLIFFORD STEWART of Longview, Texas. There are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He joined the Baptist Church July 14, 1898. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Goad Saturday by Rev. STOCKTON of Spring Hill, Texas. Addington by ALBERT NUTTER THOMAS V. PHIPPS THOMAS VANBUREN PHIPPS, a familiar figure in Addington, died at the Waurika hospital Saturday, January 18, 1936 after an illness of about three weeks. Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church at Addington Sunday afternoon by Rec. PRESTIDGE, the pastor and interment at Hastings. Mr. Phipps was born in Tennessee April1, 1866. He came to Addington about 18 years ago and worked with his brother, JIM PHIPPS in the market and café business. He is survived by two sons, WARREN and RAINES of Pecos, Texas; one daughter Mrs. HENDERSON HORTON of Jacksboro, Texas; five brothers, JIM and CARNES of Addington, R. D. of Fox, SHERMAN of Temple, and JOHN in Oregon; two sisters Mrs. FRANK PARKER formerly of Waurika now of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. MINNIE SHELTON of Tulsa. The four brothers living in Oklahoma were able to attend the funeral. Friday, January 31, 1936 Town Topics D. DENMAN of Bowie, Texas left here after he rented his old farm, the DENMAN farm, homestead west of Waurika. Mr. and Mrs. PAUL KETCHEN and the latter's mother, Mrs. C. H. DAVIDSON visited their aunt and sister, Mrs. J. D. HUNTER and Mr. Hunter in Dallas. Dr. and Mrs. W. N. BROWNING were at Hollister to visit their daughter, Mrs. BILL PEEBLES and family. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. WRIGHT of the rural community of Waurika will go to the Sunny South to visit relatives at Beaumont. Mr. and Mrs. MILLARD WEAVER have a new daughter, SAUNDRA NEON, born January 28. Miss MARGARET HENDERSON visited her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. HENRY HENDERSON, at Vernon, Texas. C. E JOACHIM of Marietta was the guest of Miss GROSSIE DORSETT at her parents' home, Mr. and Mrs. TOM DORSETT. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. BENTON went to Terral to attend the funeral of the former's aunt, Mrs. LIZZIE MILLER who died there Monday. Mr. and Mrs. TED ALFORD visited Mr. and Mrs. A. K. THOMPSON at Hastings. Mrs. H. R. BEAVERS of the Independence community visited with her daughter, Mrs. CHARLES LINDSEY and her husband at Fort Worth. M. C. BURGE of Corona, California came to visit his son and daughter, E. G. BURGE and Mrs. WALTER BECKERS and their families. Mr. Burge has been visiting relatives at Pawnee. Mrs. MINNETTE FOSTER and sister Mrs. SYBRUTH RYALS came from Oklahoma City and El Reno where they were guests of their brother, LOUIS OGLETREE, and visited Mrs. RAYMOND RUSHING at El Reno. Hastings News by Mrs. EARL STEPHENS JIM MARTIN returned home to Clovis, New Mexico after visiting his father, J. M. MARTIN. JACK HADDOCK, ROY VELEAU, and PERCY WHITE went to Oklahoma City; they report that PHIL ISENHOUR, who was in seriously injured in a car accident in December, will be able to come home soon. Rev. A. C. PENNINGTON Rev. A. C. PENNINGTON, age 80, died at the home of his son, J. B. PENNINGTON, at the Union Hill school south of Ringling Thursday. Rev. Pennington was born in Jackson County, Mississippi September 18, 1855. His father and older brother served in the Southern army during the Civil War and at the close of the war, the family moved to Texas. After a short time traveling over Texas, they made their home near Canton in Zandt County. Here he remained until 1905 when they moved to Woodville, Indian Territory. In 1867 he married Mrs. SUSAN F. FOWLER and to this union four sons and one daughter were born. The wife and one son preceded him in death, as have his parents, and all his brothers and sisters. For the past 15 years he made his home with his son, J. B. PENNINGTON, who taught school in Carter and adjoining counties. The other members of his family, including W. G. and W. H. PENNINGTON of Fox, and Mrs. LEILA BRANNON of Watonga were with him when the end came. Funeral services were conducted at the Union Hill school by Rev. BIGBY of Ringling and interment was at the Crow cemetery near Orr.
