R. MCDANIEL of Ryan, Route 2, renewed their subscription to the paper. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. ALLEN and children, their sister, Mrs. ROLLA WEATHERLY, and their mother Mrs. W. E. DYER were in Wayne to visit Mrs. Dyer's daughter, Mrs. J. L. ROBERTS who is very ill. Mr. and Mrs. LOUIS TOTTY and family, who have been living at Lawton, moved to Waurika and are now in the tenant house of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. GOLDEN. Louis is employed at the JERRY BRANDON service station. Mr. and Mrs. TOBY WIDENER and baby son of Fort Worth were guests of her sister, Mrs. HENRY NALL and brother PAUL KETCHEN, and families. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. TAYLOR of Altus were guests of their son E. C. TAYLOR. L. E. WILSON Jr. and Miss MARGARET PEARCE of Britton were guests of his aunt, Mrs. LOUESTA CAPPS and family. It had been five years since L. E. had spent any time here. Mrs. J. M. DYER and Mrs. O. E. HEACOCK had an unusual experience on Friday on Highway 81 just north of the D. H. STONE place, a good sized coyote loped nonchalantly across the road just in front of the car and took off for the timber. Little RICHARD TABE is making a nice recovery from a broken leg. P. B. TURNER, who lives west of Waurika on his ranch, is in the Waurika hospital having undergone an operation for a hernia. Mrs. Turner is staying with her daughters, Mrs. J. D. HANNA and Mrs. L. J. TRIPP while he is in the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. MCGRAW received a message last week about the death of ROBERT STIVISON in Linden, Kansas. Funeral services were Friday at Linden with interment there. Mr. Stivison was a brother of Dr. W. M. and Dr. ROY STIVISON, both of whom used to live here. Mr. and Mrs. BENNETT BOND and little son NOLAN were at their home at Chickasha. Bennett, who was hurt in a car accident recently, had convalesced at the home of his mother, Mrs. RUBY BOND here. Judge E. L. DILLARD spent some time at the dentist's last week and is now entirely toothless. Mr. and Mrs. W. Y. DILLEY went to Chickasha Saturday to attend the funeral of GEORGE MELTON, a long time family friend. Mr. Melton was one of Chickasha's most highly respected citizens, a great civic and church worker. Mrs. JOSIE BOYD went fishing two weeks ago and fell off the footing. To save a good dousing in the creek, she caught on a limb bruising her left hand until an infection set in and had to be lanced three times. Mr. and Mrs. PRINCE ROBISON and daughter Miss BILLIE JEAN were guests of his sister, Mrs. LUNT GAINES, and family at their ranch home. Miss Billie Jean and the Gaines boys spent most of the time in the saddle, the former on a cow pony and the latter two on their own paint ponies. Mr. and Mrs. WALLACE GARRISON, son GENE and daughter JOAN of Olney, Texas were guests of their sister Mrs. G. B. RALSTON and Mr. Ralston. They were accompanied by Mrs. Ralston's father, T. I. GARRISON, who makes his home with the Ralstons but who had spent some weeks with his son and family. W. O. WEAVER of Long Beach, California returned home after visiting home folks here. He drove a new truck home from Houston, Texas. He has been employed driving an dynamiting truck for the Texas Company since he was been in California and likes his job and adopted state. Mrs. W. Y. DILLEY, Mrs. PAUL KETCHEN, and Mrs. HARLEY IVY were in Duncan Tuesday as luncheon guests of Mrs. RAYMOND GLASS who was hostess to the Ninth district Federated Music club officers who gave service under Mrs. Glass as district president, Mrs. Dilley was finance officer, Mrs. Ketchen historian and Mrs. Ivy president of the Waurika Choral club. Miss WINNIE SUTTLE, who took a leave of absence from the Waurika Abstract company, dropped by to visit and was promptly put to work at her old job to assist D. H. STONE through the resale of tax property. FRANCiS (SOCKS) SMART and LEON BERRY were in Oklahoma City where he went to the specialist who has been treating his injured eye and was told it was making an improvement. After improvement he will be fitted with glasses. ALFRED KEELE was in town and reported that he had taken Mrs. Keele and little CYNTHIA ANN, who was born at the Waurika hospital. Both of them are doing nicely under the care of Mrs. CECIL ANTRIM. Cynthia Ann is tiny and was known as Midget during her stay at the hospital. Relatives and friends here Thursday of last week to attend the funeral of Mrs. MAX THOMAS, nee Miss ALTA EDWARDS, were: Mr. and Mrs. HAROLD NICHOLS and two children of Woodland, California; Mr. and Mrs. FRANK CANADA of Tutwiler, Mississippi; Mr. and Mrs. H. SMITH and Mr. and Mrs. PAUL SMITH of Empire City visited their mother and grandmother, Mrs. KATIE SMITH. Mrs. H. M. DAVIS and daughter Miss MARY of this city, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. DAVIS and Mrs. BOBBIE BARNES and little son, GEORGE EDWARDS of Sugden were Sunday guests of the A. B. MCKINLEY family at Terral. Mrs. McKinley is a sister of Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Barnes, and daughter of Mrs. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. VIRGIL BUCHANAN of Oklahoma City, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McKinley, were also guests. Miss LOUCILLE STOUT, who taught at the Seay school this year and who has been one of Jefferson county's successful teachers, was notified that she had been elected to the departmental work at Eagletown, which is an eight teacher school. The Seay school board kindly gave her permission to accept the Eagletown offer, although she had been offered the Seay school for next term. Mr. and Mrs. HAROLD NICHOLS, nee Miss RUTH EDWARDS, and two small sons of Woodland, California, who were called here by the death of her sister Mrs. Max Thomas, left for northern Oklahoma to visit Mr. Nichols' parents, then they will return here for a short visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. EDWARDS before their return to California. Mr. Nichols is Y.M.C.A. secretary for his district in California and is in the midst of his camp work for the summer. News from Terral by Mrs. J. H. JOHN CEPHUS, Misses KATHLEEN and WILLIE MAE CEPHUS, BEAULAH DUFFLE and Mrs. ROY PEALOR were in Wichita Falls. Miss DELIA COOLBAUGH returned to Fort Towson where she makes her home with her uncle after visiting homefolks here. Mr. and Mrs. DAVID WRAY and daughters of Waurika and Mr. and Mrs. J. R.GADDY and children of Bowie, Texas were Sunday guests of their mother and grandmother, Mrs. CORA HIGHTOWER who accompanied the Gaddy family home to visit there. J. H. PEALOR and RUBE WEAVER were at Waurika on business. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. WALLING and family of Bowie, Texas visited their son, JOHN HOMER WALLING and family. Mr. and Mrs. LESTER WRAY, Mrs. MAUDELL WALLING, and Mrs. DORA HULLUM attended the Baptist workers' meeting at Loco. CARL WEATHERLY of Waurika visited JAMES PERRY PEALOR. E. R. CHAFFIN of Ryan visited his daughter Miss DOROTHY. Rev. and Mrs. CLAUDE RHODES, Mrs. W. F. RODGERS, and VIRGINIA PEALOR were in Duncan to visit Mrs. SPEED who is improving. Little JAMES GAMBLE is in the Waurika hospital with pneumonia. N. B. SMITH and family visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. SMITH at Union Valley. Mrs. MORGAN GLENN of Ryan visited the EDDIE GAMBLE family. Rev. W. I. ARMSTRONG, presiding elder of the Chickasha district, preached at the Methodist church. R. L. ANDREWS and I. C. MCGINNIS had business at Chickasha. C. VESSELS and family visited the CHESTER VESSELS family. Mrs. GROVER STEWART of the Bellvue community and daughter Mrs. DICK CEPHUS of Comanche were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. CEPHUS after they had visited relatives at Kilgore, Texas. Miss LOIS PEACOCK of Union Valley visited Mrs. ELLA HILL and Mrs. LAURA HIGHTOWER. Mr. and Mr. JOHN PRYOR and son and VIRGINIA PEALOR visited at Hastings. HENRY COMBS of Duncan was a guest in the ROY PEALOR home. JAMES PERRY PEALOR, CHESTER CLARK, LEROY CHAPMAN, and MAX GORDON ALLEN, with Prof. CLARK, made a bug hunting trip to Craterville for their biology class. CHAP LOVING and family and Mrs. BELL of Henrietta, Texas were guests of the C. B. HODGES and ABNER HANCOCK families. Mrs. J. E. FRISH entertained her Sunday school class Wednesday. Mrs. ROY WELTY of the Bellvue community visited Mrs. J. E. CEPHUS. Expresses gratitude from the family of Dr. J. W. MCPHERSON from Mrs. J. W. MCPHERSON, Mrs. W. D. NEALE, Dr. and Mrs. W. D. MCPHERSON, Dr. and Mrs. V. L. MCPHERSON, Mr. and Mrs. ALLEN CRAIN, Miss ESSIE MCPHERSON, Mrs. E. J. MCGOULDRICK, B. G. MCPHERSON, GUY MCPHERSON, and LINDON MCPHERSON. Obit Dr. J. M. MCPHERSON, a pioneer physician and well loved person, died April 29, 1938 at his home in Terral. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church of Terral Saturday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. CLAUDE RHODES, pastor of the Terral Methodist church, assisted by Rev. G. A. ELROD, pastor of the Terral Baptist church. Pallbearers were J. P. PEALOR, L. G. HIGHTOWER, J. O. LINTON, BOB SMART, R. L.ANDRES and DOCK CAMPBELL. Dr. McPherson was born near Harrison, Arkansas March 4, 1860. He was married to Miss LAURA ANN LASTER of Harmony, Arkansas November 16, 1883 and to this union eight children were born, all of whom survive him: Mrs. W. B. NEALE of Crescent; Dr. W. H. MCPHERSON of Wynnewood; Dr. V. L. MCPHERSON of Dallas; Mrs. ALLAN CRAIN of Sasakwa; Miss ESSIE MCPHERSON of Casper, Wyoming; Mrs. E. J. MCGOULDRICK of Dallas; B. J. and GUY MCPHERSON of Alice, Texas. The children's mother died December 18, 1925 and on March 4, 1928, he was united in marriage with Miss ROSA BERRY of Terral and they had a son LINDON BERRY. ..Dr. McPherson took his medical course at the School of Medicine at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He began his practice of medicine at Wister, Indian Territory in 1898. For two years he was at Fanshaw, Indian Territory, and was located at Sasakwa, Oklahoma from 1902 to 1919. Then he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, then returned here to practice medicine at Dillard, Grady and Oscar. In 1926 he moved to Terral where he was active in his profession until his last illness. He was a member of the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Jefferson county Medical association of which he was president for one year. Dr. McPherson was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. He was a widely read man, kindly and genial and will be sadly missed. Terral School Notes First Grade: We are glad to have VONNETTE WILLIAMS back in school after a long absence. Second Grade: our tadpoles became frogs. Third grade: CARROLL PHILLIPS, BEEY JO SCHWARTZ and CHARLES ALFORD gave talks. Fourth Grade: Perfect spellers were A. C. GREER, FLOYD GUNTER, DOROTHY HILL, THOMAS HIGHTOWER, DOWE KIETH, LOYAL SEEDS, HALLIE SUE SPOON and JAMES WAGGONER. Mrs. FRED PHARISS' Father Died Monday Mrs. FRED PHARISS of the Addington community was here Tuesday to take a bus or train from Waurika to Okemah where she had been called by the death of her father, CHARLES EVANS, who was making his home with another daughter, Mrs. IRENE GREGG of Okemah. Funeral services were held at McAlester afternoon with interment in the family lot there. Mr. Evans had lived most of his life in Jefferson County, a good deal of the time in the Mud Creek community. Several years ago he went to Okemah to make his home with Mrs. Gregg. He was 65 years old and well known in this county where he had pioneered. Mrs. D. P. ZELLNER .Mrs. D. P. ZELLNER died Sunday.Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Waurika Methodist church, conducted by Rev. W. A. ROACH and Rev. J. D CUNNINGHAM. JOHN CUNNINGTHAM sang "Lead Kindly Light." Interment was at Waurika cemetery. EMMA ELIZABETH HARREL, the fourth child of J. C. and SARAH MOORE HARREL, was born at Montgomery, Alabama May 15, 1885 and her death was the first in the family circle of seven daughters and one son. The Harrel family came to Texas 44 years ago and located near Decatur where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage July 31, 1904 to D. P. ZELLNER of Boyd, Texas. She and Mr. Zellner were the parents of eight children, two dying in infancy. With the exception of Miss VELMA ZELLNER who is at home, the surviving children are all married and there are five grandchildren. Mrs. Zellner was devoted to her home and children and the daughter and four sons were as close to her heart as those born to her. She is survived by her husband, Z. P. Zellner, Mr. and Mrs. OZELL ZELLNER and children, DON and DORIS; Mr. and Mrs. HUBERT WELCH and daughter YVONNE; Mr. and Mrs. JACK WEST and daughter PEGGY JUNE; Mr. and Mrs. ESTEL BARNETT and daughter CHARLENE; Mr. and Mrs. JULIUS LIVELY and VELMA. With the exception of Mr. and Mrs. West, who live at Wichita Falls, all the children live near home and made frequent visits. .By 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Zellner moved to Jefferson County and made their home in the Waurika community, living 14 years on the M. C. GROSECLOSE farm six miles south of town and for the past two years on one of the CAROLAND farms south and west of town. Mrs. ZELLNER was converted at Sand Hill, Texas in 1901.A short time ago she became ill and a surgical operation was advised.. a malignancy was discovered of proportions that the case was hopeless. Her going was so sudden the shock. to her six surviving sisters and one brother, Mrs. JEFF GOODGER, Mr. R. B. ETTER and Mrs. H. M. TOBIAS of Waurika; Mrs. RAY BURBANK of Pratt, Kansas; Mrs. WES BOYDSTUN of Hastings, Mrs. J. C. MCDOWEL L and A. H. HARRELL of Phoenix, Arizona. A.B. STANLEY ARISTO BULUS STANLEY was born February 9, 1881 in Cash County, Texas near Queen City and passed away April 26, 1938 at the Waurika hospital after a long illness due to cancer. Funeral services were conducted from his home church at Riverview community Friday afternoon by Rev. RALPH A. HILL, pastor of the Waurika Baptist church and interment was at Sugden cemetery by the side of his son DERR who preceded him in death a year. A. B. STANLEY was the second son of ALAN and LOU STANLEY and lived with them in Cash County until he was 13 years when the family moved to Grayson County where he grew to manhood. From there he moved to Oklahoma with his parents, brothers and sisters. October 13, 1912, Mr. Stanley was united in marriage with Miss ELLA AMANDA BYBEE and to this union six children were born, one of whom, DERR, died a year ago. The surviving children are Mrs. EDITH QUALLS, FAYE, BRUCE, MIDA, and BILLIE. There is a little grandson, ROBERT DALE QUALLS, and three brothers, ALEC and MAYO, both at Comanche, and CECIL of Odessa, Texas; three sisters Mrs. BENTLEY EDWARDS of Hastings, Mrs. RUEY EDWARDS of Clemscott and Mrs. IVY TRESDELL of West Point, New York. Mr. Stanley was converted at Independence, later moving his membership to the Baptist church at Hastings.
