"Jim" Edgar, 88, of Duncan died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Wilkins Nursing Center. Service was to be at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Chapel with Dr. Craig Christina officiating and the Rev. Jody Hilliard assisting. Burial was to be in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home. Mr. Edgar was born Aug. 9, 1914, in Addington, to Jessie and Irene Ryan Edgar. He married Athaline Smith on June 17, 1938, in DeRidder, La. Mr. Edgar was a member of First Baptist Church in Duncan and Duncan Masonic Lodge No. 60 for 64 years, the York Rite Consistory, and the Red Red Rose. He retired from Halliburton Company after 38 years, working from 1941 to 1979, retiring as the superintendent of the Inspection Department. His hobby was working in his many different flower gardens. Mr. Edgar was very attentive to the growth of his family and was highly respected by his family, siblings and friends. Survivors include his wife , Athaline, of the home; a daughter, Sharon Barron of Duncan; a daughter-in-law, Mary V. Edgar of Fredricksburg, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, John P. and Pauline Edgar of Comanche; four grandchildren, Kevin Barron, Louetta Melendez, Sarah Wheeler and Jeanne Barry; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Melendez, Allison Barry and Johnny Barry; and many nieces and nephews.
