Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Fort Cobb, Okla., with Rev. Charlie Blount officiating. Burial will be in Fort Cobb Cemetery in Fort Cobb by Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. Mr. Hawkins was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Ryan, Okla., to Jack and Ernestine (Morrison) Hawkins. He graduated from Broxton High School. He attended OSU and ENMU on a basketball scholarship. He excelled in sports throughout high school and college. He played semipro baseball. He was married to Joy Glover on Sept. 1, 1956, in Portales, N.M. He served in the Texas National Guard. He was a retired general sales manager for Gene Messer Cadillac in Amarillo prior to moving to Denton. During his career he was recognized for top achievement in his field. He was strong, determined and loving with his family and in his career. His sense of humor and quick wit always brought a smile to those around him. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His favorite pastimes were golf and his grandsons. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tricia Withrow and husband, Kevin, of The Colony; his mother, Ernestine Hawkins of Fort Cobb; three brothers, Preston Hawkins of Marlow, Okla., Bill Hawkins of Fort Cobb, and Pat Hawkins of Mooreland, Okla.; and two grandsons, Austin Withrow and Tyler Withrow, both of The Colony. The family suggests memorials be to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust St., Denton, TX 76201; or Brain Tumor Research, in care of Karen Fink, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, P.O. Box 91088, Dallas, TX 75391-0888. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
