HOOPER Funeral service for Roy L. Hooper, 78, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2005 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Roy L. Hooper was born December 25, 1926, in Hastings, Oklahoma to Arch and Maggie Hooper the 13th of 14 children. Roy died December 8, 2005 in Chickasha. He was raised on a farm halfway between Waurika and Hastings, Oklahoma. Roy attended school in a one room school not far from the farm on the Red River. When World War II started, although he wasn’t old enough, he and two cousins ran off and joined the Merchant Marines. He received his papers to join the U.S. Army while they were in port in Hawaii. After returning from the service, he worked in the oilfield. In 1949 he moved to Chickasha. He met and married Melita Ann Burmeister on December 17, 1949. They had three children, Beverly, Bill and Marsha. Roy and Ann started Hooper’s Carpet Cleaners and ran the business until Roy’s eyesight began to fail. Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church. He worked for several years on the counting committee and he also ran the elevator for several years. He was preceded in death by: Parents: Arch and Maggie Hooper; Brothers: Leon, Otho, Carl and Lloyd Hooper; Sisters: Baby Maurine, Cecil, Ruby, Clara and Irene. Survivors include: His wife: Ann Hooper of the home; two daughters and their husbands: Beverly and Garry Wenzel of Oklahoma City; Marsha and Dave Bartlett of Oklahoma City; one son and his wife: Bill and Theresa Hooper of Bradley, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Lacey Wenzel, Brandon and Brittany Hooper; two sisters: Doris Carter of Waurika, Oklahoma; Laura Wooten of Springfield, Oregon; two brothers: Odell Hooper of Duncan, Oklahoma; Eldon Hooper of Grand Prairie, Texas.
