Jan. 8, 5-8 P.M. Services: Weds. Jan. 9. 11:00 A.M. Visitation for Fred Leon Headrick will be held at Basham Funeral Care on Tuesday evening January 8, 2002 from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday morning January 9, 2002 at Faith Church of the Nazarene (5301 South H Street) where Fred and his family were long time active members. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery on Panama Lane in Bakersfield. Fred was born on the 27th of February, 1925 in Waurika, Oklahoma the last of the five children born to Willard Price Headrick & Josie Adell Johnson Headrick. He went home to be with God on January 3, 2002 in Bakersfield following a long battle with Parkinsons and heart disease. Fred was the final survivor of the children having been preceded in death by his sisters, Ida Belle Headrick, Flossie Mae Headrick Taylor, Goldie Headrick Trotter, and by his brother Hardy Price Headrick who was killed in Germany during the closing days of WWII. Fred is survived by his loving wife Alma Clapp Headrick of Bakersfield, CA; son, Ronald Leon Headrick and his wife Marilyn of Montera, CA; daughters, Sherryl Lynnette Tracy and her husband Lester of Bakersfield, CA and Caroly Ann Tacadena and her husband Mar of Carson, CA; grandsons, Andrew DuBois Headrick, Mar Neal Tacadena and granddaughter Abigail Elizabeth Headrick, Fred was the loving step grandfather and great grandfather to his daughters children. He also has many loving nieces & nephews. Fred served his country with distinction during WWII in the Pacific theater while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps having earned the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart for wounds he received while taking Iwo Jima, Marshall Islands. He was nominated for the Gold Star in Lieu of a seond Purple Heart. Fred also saw action in other battles before being in the front lines of the invasion of Iwo Jima. Fred was much loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. May his name be forever blessed.
