James Services: Wed., Dec. 5, 2 p.m. Joe James was born February 6, 1928 in Hastings, Oklahoma to Daniel and Martha James. He passed away December 2, 2001 in Bakersfield, CA. Joe moved to Arvin, CA as an infant where he resided until his death. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also during the Korean conflict as a Seaman 1st Class. After serving his country, Joe became an employee of the Kern County Fire Department and retired in 1981 as Captain after 30 years of service. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister Thelma Peters. Joe is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Hazel; brother Daniel James of Cabo San Lucas; 3 sons Michael and wife Nancy of Arvin, Randall and wife Mari of Bakersfield, Ronald and wife Julie of Arvin, daughter Karen Menefee and husband Sam of Arvin. Nine grandchildren: Jared (Katrina), Brad (Jackie), Jenifer (Bobby), and Ebony James, Amy and Jacob Menefee, Joseph (Amber), Brittney, and Ryan James, and 3 great grandchildren: Katelyn, Kyle, and Kody James, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Remembrances may be sent to the Kern County Firefighters Association, American Lung Association, American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
