All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 31 Dec 2002 Charles "Pete" Ovid McCorkle OKLAHOMA CITY - Charles "Pete" Ovid McCorkle, 67, of Oklahoma City went to his reward Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, after a short illness. Memorial service was to be at 2 p.m. today in Southern Hills Church of God in Oklahoma City. Interment was to be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City. Mr. McCorkle was born June 28, 1935, in Ryan to Walter L. and Lena M. McCorkle. He was the youngest of six children. He moved to Duncan early in his childhood where he met Tom Goodner, who was to be his lifelong friend and to whom he was close until the time of his death. In the 1950's, he met Jewel O. Biffle, a single mother with two small children. On Feb. 3, 1957, Pete and Jewel married in Wichita Falls, and he became "Daddy" to his two oldest children, Margie and Diane. After eight years of trying they were blessed with another daughter, Jewel Mae, and two years later Candy was born. In 1968, Pete and his family moved to Oklahoma City. Mr. McCorkle was a skilled carpenter and millwright and a proud member of Local Carpenter's Union No. 329 in Oklahoma City for 45 years, where he made many good friends. He retired in 1997, but remained active in the union until the time of his death. Survivors include four daughters, Margaret M. King of Atlanta, Ga., Diane Burk of Arlington, Texas, Jewel Mae McCorkle and Candace Lee McCorkle- Aaron, both of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Wanda Mills of Oklahoma City, and Dorothy Scott of Duncan; six grandchildren, Preston Reed, John Sissom Jr., Taribea Burk, Charlotte McCorkle, Jewel McCorkle and Courtney Aaron; one great-grandson, Dellon Preston Reed; sisters and brothers by marriage, Dewey McCorkle, Carl W. and Mae Patow, Ray and Vera Powers, Richard and Vinita Biffle, and Alfred P. and Carol Biffle; and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
