Moore Leonard Moore, 96, pioneer Jefferson County resident, died Saturday, March 14, 1987, in the Jefferson County Hospital at Waurika, Oklahoma, after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the First United Methodist Church in Waurika with Dr. Joe Langley, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home in Waurika. Leonard Elbert Moore was born July 16, 1890 in Hunt County, Texas. He was one of 11 children born to William T. and Sarah Donelson Moore. The family moved from Titus County, Texas, to Jefferson County, Oklahoma in 1907, and settled on a farm south of Waurika. On October 26, 1910, in Waurika, he married Hattie Lou Patterson, daughter of Jefferson Alexander and N. Ella Cook Patterson, and the couple made their home in Antlers, Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. In 1912, they returned to Jefferson County and settled on a farm east of town. Mrs. Moore died October 17, 1957. In 1959, Moore retired from farming and married Mandy Campbell. The couple made their home in Waurika. She died July 21, 1979. Moore had been a resident of the nursing home since June, 1985. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waurika. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Roden of Waurika; two sons, Dallas Leon and Donald Eugene, both of Waurika; a sister, Jessie Benson of Archer City, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Loyce Hurt, preceded him in death in 1967. The family suggests memorials be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (emphysema) 825 Northeast 13th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104. Pall bearers were Bill Rich, Hayden Teeter, Buck Cullar, Babe Cephus, Gene Peach and Max Wells.
