Pool Services for Edith C. Pool will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at at the First Baptist Church in Durant. Edith Carmel (Cagle) Pool was born on April 15, 1910, in Cove, Ark., and died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in Durant. She was the daughter of Charles Milton and Dora Emma (Martin) Cagle. She married Sam Oma Pool on June 26, 1932, at her mother's home in Ringling. While living in Ringling, she was the city librarian, city clerk and the Jefferson County Deputy Court Clerk. She attended the University of Oklahoma and Southeastern State University. Mrs. Pool has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant since 1946, where she taught the Girls Junior Class for many years. She served as president of the Women's Missionary Union in Ardmore, the Enon Association and was a charter member of the Healdton Music Club. She is past president of the Chapter D.J. PEO Sisterhood, the Fortnightly Club, as well as the SOSU Faculty Dames. When regent of Mary Quisenberry D.A.R., she served as State History Chairman and was the chapter's sponsor of the Children of the American Revolution. Her other patriotic organizations include: The Washita Trace, Colonial Dames XVII Century and Daughters of the American Colonist. For many years, she was election inspector on Ward 3 Precinct 3. Also, when Southeastern sponsored the Aritst Services "Community Course," she volunteered many hours at the ticket center at the Light House Book Store on Main Street. She held a general class HAM Radio operator's license. Her hobbies have been needlework and reading. As a member of the Audubon Society, she was an avid bird watcher and counter. She was also a gourmet cook. With her husband, Edith continued to support education after retirement as patrons of the music department and as lifetime members of the Oklahoma University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University alumni associations. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Ernest Erin Cagle, and sister Alva May Cagle King. She is survived by her son, Dr. Sam Lee Pool, assistant director for Space Medicine, NASA, Johnson Space Center, and wife Jane (Bryan) Pool, Houston, Texas; granddaughters Elizabeth Lee Pool and husband William Louis Stevens and Keli Jane Pool-Roper and Jeffrey Richard Roper, all of Houston; great- grandsons Evan Richard Roper and Ryan Lee Roper, both of Houston; brother Ben J. Cagle, San Diego, Calif.; nephew Charles Cagle and wife Nancy, Waco, Texas; cousins Patricia Justice Hammond and husband Jack, Duncan, Mrs. Sadah Quesenberry, Sante Fe, N.M., Margaret Holloway Wells, Oklahoma City, Nancy Holloway Rea, Tulsa, Steve and Linda Lincoln, San Diego, and Vivian Tyler of Indianapolis, Ind.; and other cousins, nieces and nephews,and a host of friends. Burial will be at the Ozan Cemetery in Nashville, Ark., which is the land her husband's grandfather, James Buchanan Honeycutt, gave to the Bingen, Ark., community in the early 1900s. Pallbearers are Joe Leland Gary, Dr. Jim Harmon, Herb Clark, Dr. Jerry Polson, Mack Bedwell, George Dowdy, Charles Cagle and Wade Baskin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Ed Boynton, Tom Vickers, Dub Manahan, J.C. Curtis, James Latham, David Williams, Dan Batchelor, Dr. Don Parham, Jerry Pool, Dr. Arnold Walker, Malcolm MacDonald, Bill Vineyard and Jack Hammond.
