All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :: Southard, William Roy William Roy Southard, 71, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2004 in Ryan, OK. Dr. Southard was born in Ryan on June 13, 1933. He graduated from Ryan High School in 1951, and then he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma, then later earned his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Texas. He served on the faculties of the University of Missouri and the University of Oklahoma as a Professor of Transportation Economics. He served in Washington D. C. as the Director of Operations of the Interstate Commerce Commission. Bill and June Southard retired in 1988 to Ryan, OK, where Dr. Southard served as the Mayor and later as the Vice Chairman of the Comanche Indian Nation. Dr. Southard was a Master Mason. He was also very active at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Duncan, OK serving as a Licensed Lay Preacher, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Member of the Vestry and Search Committee. He served as a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma Standing Committee and as a member of the Oakerhater Community. Dr. Southard is survived by his wife of 51 years, June High Southard, a son, William Clark Southard of Savannah, GA, and a daughter, Constance Louise Southard of Las Cruces, NM, and three grandsons, Alexander Buchanan, Andrew Brandon and William Zachary Southard. Also surviving is his sister, Louise Southard West, and husband Norman, of Waurika, OK, as well as aunts and uncles, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Clark and Bonnie Miller Southard. In lieu of flowers, for those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Southard's name to the American Red Cross. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 809 Cedar, Duncan, Oklahoma. Under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
