Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery, under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Modena Sumpter Smith was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Waurika, Okla., the daughter of Isaac and Ada Cline Sumpter. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1941. She married Austin "Red" Smith on Dec. 30, 1946, in Gainesville. She retired in 1983, after 35 years' employment at First National Bank of Fort Worth, where she was a vice-president in charge of bookkeeping. She returned to Gainesville in 1983, and was employed at Gainesville National Bank from 1988 to 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters; and three brothers. Survivors: Son, Ronald Smith of Gainesville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
