Hunter. Funeral services were held here Sunday morning at 9 o'clock in the Church of Christ and were conducted by Bro. John Lauderdale, an old family friend. Interment was in the Waurika cemetery in the family plot. Six grandsons were pall bearers. Livicia Ogden was born Jan. 1, 1855 near Ozark, Ark. She grew to young womanhood there and was married to William H. Jefferson Tucker, a Tennesseean on March 31, 1872. The young couple followed plantation life for a time and then when they had two small sons, Dowdy and David, they listened to the call of the west and came to Hillsboro, Texas, on the Brazos river. Still following ranching and stock raising Mr. Tucker branced out a little each year and finally reached Spanish Fort, Texas, directly across Red river from Petersburg, Indian Territory. He opened a mercantile business in Petersburg but it was some time before Mrs. Tucker could be reconciled to crossing the river and making her home in "uncivilized Indian Territory." Eventually she did and they lived at Petersburg until 1902 when they moved to Sugden and were in the mercantile business, at the same time that the late Mr. and Mrs. W.T.F. Bush were. They came to Waurika in 1907 but eventually made their home in Childress, Texas, where Mr. Tucker died. Since then Mrs. Tucker has made her home with her children, always a cherished and honored guest. She was the mother of ten children, six of them survive: Dave and Mrs. C.H. Davidson, Waurika; Jeff Tucker, Celburne, Texas; Mrs. S.H. Daily and Mrs. Ivin White, Pomona, Calif; Mrs. J.D. Hunter, Grand Prairie, Texas; also several grandchildren and a few great grandchildren. Bro. Lauderdale, who was made a most welcome guest when the Tuckers lived at Petersburg baptized Mrs. Tucker, her mother, 75 years old, all of Mrs. Tucker's children except two and also C. H. Davidson, a son-in-law. For the funeral service Bro. Lauderdale who knew Mrs. Tucker better than any one except her own family and perhaps better than they for he and she were of the same generation, quoted the 23rd Psalm and ten spoke very simply and feelingly from the text "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith." Faithful in all the little things of life, gentle, loving and forgiving Mrs. Tucker was a good christian woman and has left a precious legacy of memories to her devoted family." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Jefferson County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/jefferson/jefferson.htm
