All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::City Cemetery--Lubbock TX Charles Raymond Tarkenton PLAINVIEW - Charles Raymond Tarkenton, 83, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bartley-Silva Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eli Cooper and the Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 in City of Lubbock Cemetery. Mr. Tarkenton was born in Waurika, Okla., and graduated from Fort Worth High School in 1936. In 1938, he moved to Lubbock where he owned a sandwich shop. He moved to Roswell, N.M., in 1939 then returned to Lubbock. Mr. Tarkenton worked for an oil company in California, then returned to Lubbock in 1940 where he entered the insurance business. From 1942 until 1945, he served in the Army Air Corps with the 404th bomb group. In 1951, Mr. Tarkenton moved to Plainview where he was associated with Lemons Funeral Home for 32 years. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM and was a master mason for 50 years with Lodge No. 709. He married Cora Lee Garrison in 1946. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nicki Charlene Cates of Houston, Janet Reeves of Plainview and Carey Rhea Clingan of Topeka, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be to Masonic Home for Children in Fort Worth.
