All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Tucson Citizen, Tucson AZ Hugh Wilson Treadwell 83, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2005 in El Paso, Texas. He was born in Waurika, Oklahoma on November 21, 1921, the son of Hugh and Jessie Ellen Cogdell Treadwell. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Ralph Simon Treadwell. He is survived by his wife Edith Doolittle Treadwell, daughter Pamela and son-in-law Bill Rubin, of Tucson, Arizona, son and daughter-in-law Hugh Jr. and Danica Treadwell, of Miami Beach, Florida and daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Stephen Miller, of Denver. Hugh graduated with BA and MA degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. As a Rotary Foundation Scholar, he received a diploma with honors in French Studies from the Institut de Touraine, University of Poitiers, France. His business career was spent in primarily foreign language college textbook publishing with The Macmillan Company, Holt, Rinehart & Winston, Inc, Random House-Knopf and W. W. Norton & Co. He also served as director of the University of New Mexico Press and the Texas Western Press. A veteran of WWII, he served as 1st Lt. with 381st Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in the European Theater. He was a former president of the El Paso chapter of Alliance Française and El Paso Council for International Visitors. He was a member of University Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at University Presbyterian Church, 244 North Resler Drive, at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2005.
