Gilliam will move to Dallas in a short time to reside. John Wishard has bought the Love barber shop from W. M. Moore. Max Westenheimer, the Ardmore merchant prince was in Ravia Wednesday on business. Judge Bingham was over from Tishomingo Monday. Robert A. Heffner returned last week from a trip to Texas, where he had been looking after his farms. Misses Maude Brown and Willie Wilson were visiting at Ardmore first of the week, returning Wednesday. Mrs. W. H. Bumahn, of Tucson, Arizona, spent the past week visiting her sister, Mrs. R. G. Guptill of Ravia. W. T. Gilliam last week sold his Golden Rule Grocery to Mrs. Constock of Russet. J. W. Scrimshire is manager for the new firm and will carry a good general stock. "Uncle" Tom Spelce returned Sunday from a trip to his old home in Arkansas. He says the persimmons are all nicely sugared over there now and the haw crop is a bumper. Judge Shipp, of Ennis, Texas, an old ex-Confederate comrade of our fellow townsman, P. O. Colbert February issues missing The Ravia Gazette, Friday, 15 March 1907 Capt. W. H. Main was in Dallas, Texas, first of the week. Dr. Johnson's buggy horse ran away the seventh time Wednesday. Silas Sharp is announced this week as a candidate for Street Commissioner. H. A. Martin was serving his country in the capacity of grand juror at Tishomingo this week. FOR DISTRICT JUDGE A T. West was born in Fannie County, Texas, November 8, 1872, on a farm ten miles northwest of Bonham, where he was raised. He attended the public schools in the country until he was fourteen years of age, and then attended Fannie College and Savoy College, working between sessions on the farm, and graduated from Savoy College in 1891. He studied law in a law office at Bonham with Lusk & Thurmond, and after he was admitted to the bar practiced the profession in Texas until he located in Lehigh in January 1897, where he has since resides and been actively engaged in the practice of his profession. Since locating at Lehigh he has been thoroughly identified with the business and industrial growth of his home town, has filled the office of Mayor three times, was secretary of the Lehigh Commercial Club from the date of its organization until he was elected its president, which position he now occupies. He has attended all the single statehood conventions from the Muskogee convention in 1901 until statehood was secured, and was one of the statehood delegation to Washington a year ago for the purpose of securing immediate statehood for Indian and Oklahoma Territories. He has been one of the prime movers in the effort to open up the surface of the segregated coal land to settlement, and drew up the first memorial on the proposition, and with it went before the Chickasaw Legislature and the Choctaw Council and received considerable encouragement for the proposition from most of the members of the Choctaw Council and the Chickasaw Legislature. As a lawyer he has always occupied an enviable position among the follow members of his bar, is a m ember of the Oklahoma and Indian Territory Bar Association of the Atoka Court Division. He has always been persistent in his efforts to maintain the high plane of the profession to which he belongs. He was chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of the 97th Delegate District, and as such led the committee in taking the polls and organizing the Democracy of the district, their work resulting in the overwhelming Democratic victory of the 6th last November. Judge West is now a candidate for Judge of the Seventh Judicial District, comprising the counties of Johnston, Coal, Atoka, Pontotoc and Seminole and his fitness and availability for the position are fully recognized.
