King and Miss Sue Clay, both prominent young people of Emet, were married at the residence of D. N. Garner of this place Sunday, Rev. J. W. Head officiating. HE TOOK AN OUTING I. J. Clark, of the Mill Creek community, charged with larceny was tried here Thursday and sentenced one year and one day to the pen, but just before his fate was known he took an outing to enjoy nature's richest blessings, where doubtless his only companion is the oak tree. Up to the time of going to press his where abouts are unknown. THE BUNCH TRIAL The long trial of C. C. Bunch for the killing of A. J. Milburn at Milburn about two years ago, was brought to a close last Friday morning when the jury in the case rendered a verdict of not guilty. The defendant was represented by Cornelius Hardy of this place and W. I. Cruce of Ardmore, while the state was represented by James E. Humphrey of Ardmore, Judge Gullet and S. C. Treadwell of Tishomingo. This trial was a very interesting one owing to the prominence of both parties. The defense proved the killing to be in self defense and the jury so rendered the verdict. Louis Wheeler has a $100.00 position with the Richardson Lumber Co. at Shreveport, Louisiana. He expects a better thing in the near future. Grover C. York has a $90.00 position as head bookkeeper with the El Paso & Southwestern R. R. at El Paso, Texas. Bert Smiley is receiving $125.00 per month as head stenographer in the Auditor's Office of the El Paso & Southwestern R. R., at El Paso, Texas. F. O. Smith, of Ryan is in the city Thursday. Summers Hardy was here on legal business Monday. Joe S. Jennings Co. can make quick loans on land. Joe Ratliff, of Mansville, was a business visitor to the city Tuesday. J. M. Bethmern, of Kingston was in the city on business Thursday. Q. D. Gibbs, editor the Mill Creek Times, was in the city a few days this week. Attorney G. L. Wright was here Wednesday on business from Ardmore, Miss Mattie Vaughn, of Collinsville, Texas, is here visiting her sister, Mrs. J. O. Robertson. W. F. deCordova is in attendance upon Odd Fellows' orphan home this week at Checotah. James S, Fulton, of Bells, Texas, is a business visitor to the city. T. B. Cox and M. T. Crow have purchased the Palace Meat Market. Mrs. J. B. Glasgow and daugher returned recently from a visit to Dallas. B. F. Harris, of Milburn, was in the city a few days this week on business. Albert Rennie, of Pauls Valley, was a Tishomingo visitor Tuesday. Mrs. Townsend came down with the Judge Monday from Ardmore returning to her home Wednesday. Henry Greenwood, a prominent Chickasaw of Filmore, was in Tishomingo on business Monday. T. B. Thompson, a prominent merchant of Emet, was doing business in the county seat Monday. C. Creary and Miles Williams, both prominent men of Milburn, visited in the county seat Monday on business. Rev. W. P. Holland will occupy the Baptist pulpit on next Sunday. Rev. Holland is a brother to the pastor of the Baptist church of this place, Flem Duncan is visiting in the city this week from Violet Springs, Oklahoma. Mr. Duncan was at one time city Marshal of Tishomingo. Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Warbritten left Saturday for Monday, Texas, where they go to make their future home. The best wishes of their many friends go with them to their new home. Mrs. Mary Hightower, after a few days in the city, left Tuesday for an extended trip in points north. While on this trip she will attend the Jamestown exposition. Mr. and Mrs. D. Friend, of Emet, returned to their home last Friday after spending a couple of weeks in the county seat, the guest of their daughter Mr. F. E. Pangburn. Peter Small, the granite and asphalt man of Ardmore, was looking after his interests in Tishomingo Monday. Mrs. J. T. Young will entertain at cards Thursday night in honor of her niece, Miss Melville Akin of Princeton, Kentucky. F. E. Pangburn, the Manhattan Life Insurance agent made a business trip to Ardmore Monday. Charley London, of Ardmore, insurance agent for the K. of P. lodge, was among the visitors to the city Tuesday. Tom Westbrooks, formerly of this place but now fireman on the Choctaw out of Haileyville, was among Tishomingo friends Monday. W. H. Cox, a prominent farmer of Reagan, was in Tishomingo Tuesday after lumber to make improvements on his place, J. G. Foster, who recently closed a public school on Red River, was in Tishomingo Wednesday en route to his home near Milburn. Attorneys P. B. H. Shearer and W. H. Walker are in attendance upon a meeting of the grand lodge of Odd Fellows at McAlester. Sam Hall, who is connected with the firm of J. T. Sadler & Co., left Monday for a business trip to Sherman and other Texas points. J. R. Vinyard, a prominent merchant of Reagan and candidate for county clerk of Johnston County, was shaking hands with Tishomingo friends Wednesday. A new boy baby arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hendrix a few miles out of the city Tuesday night. This makes the thirteenth child for this home. A. J. Carter returned Wednesday from Ada, where he had been called to the bedside of his aged mother who is very sick. Mrs. Carter is 76 years old, and the fact that she is suffering from an attack of la grippe there is but little hopes of her recovery. The News extends sympathy to Mr. Carter in this hour of trouble. J. B. Hutchens, of the firm of Hutchens Bros., returned Wednesday from St. Louis, where he went to buy his spring and summer stock of goods. While in St. Louis he met Ned Looney, son of Dr. J. T. Looney of this place, who is there attending a law school Mr. Hutchens says that Ned is doing fine in school and that on several occasions his pleading and datas were not equaled by any member of the school. He says Ned will be at home sometime in next month. Tishomingo Weekly News, 19 April 1907 W. C. Holland, of Ravia was in Tishomingo Saturday. H. A. Hatcher, civil engineer, happened to the misfortune to get his left leg broke while working at the dam Saturday. REPORT OF CEMETERY COMMITTEE For the benefit of city council, citizens of Tishomingo or any one who may be interested in the Tishomingo Cemetery, the ladies would like to tell you something of how the work is conducted, what they have done and what they expect to do with your assistance. The city council, August 15, 1905, deeded in trust to the lades of this association, the city cemetery, so long as they kept it in good condition, etc., and should they at any time fail to do so they should surrender their claims thereto. Since the ladies have had this in charge they have tried to do their duty and so far have complied with promises to the city council. To secure grounds for cemetery and to have same surveyed and fenced all of which the ladies have do and is paid for without one pennies expense to the city, and now since the hardes and most expensive work connected with the cemetery has been done and paid for, as you may see below in an itemized statement which we have had published for the benefit of the citizens of Tishomingo and surrounding country, we now feel there is nothing left to be except to beautify it, and as an association we do ask your co-operation in this work. We have taken this means to express our many thanks to the business men and citizens of Tishomingo who have lately given us so liberally, and we as an association promise that this money will be used only for the cleaning and beautifying of the cemetery grounds. As an association we would be very glad if every man and woman in the town and country who have dear friends and relatives buried in cemetery, and more specially those having relatives, would become members of the association and assist us in the work. The cemetery should be the pride of the town, and with our assistance we think it will be in the near future. The dues are only fifty cents a year; if you cannot meet with us and work let us add your name to our membership list and you pay your fifty cents annually toward beautifying the cemetery. We would like to say for the benefit of those wishing deeds to the lots in cemetery where relatives are buried, if you will call on Mr. Chapman and Smith & Chapman furniture store he will give you an order to city mayor and recorder who will issue your deed. Below is the itemized statement of the money expended for the benefit of the cemetery: G. W. Dudley for wire for fence, $114.00. Mrs. G. W. Adams, 50 cents. To Chapman, $1.00. C. E.
