Mrs. Alice Thomas and Miss Derrick visited Mrs. J. P. Figgett. Mr. Hensley is going to move to Reny. Mr. and Mrs. Gatlin visited Mrs. Figgett Sunday. W. R. White was in Cope today. Dan Sinclair attended to business in Tishomingo Monday. Oll Figgett and Hollan Veach on their way from Wapanucka Saturday night stopped at John Thomas’ and took supper. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WILSON GROVE Albert Byrd of Jesse visited I. C. Jones and family Sunday. John Harris of Sulphur visited his father here several days last week. Jim Dudley and family started to Butler, Oklahoma last Friday. Miss Underwood visited Miss Maggie Harris Sunday. Myrtle Williams and Martha Moore visited Lucie and Maud Spencer Sunday. Silas Williams and Miss Daffern were married last Tuesday. W. A. Underwood attended the county Union at Peck last week. Rev. Rallston is to preach here next Sunday. There were several new scholars started to school last week. Charles Thomas went up near Byrne Sunday. Mrs. Harrison visited her mother Mrs. Pritchard, Saturday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OCONEE ITEMS - December 3 A great many people have moved in lately, part of them coming to cultivate W. J. Jamison’s place. Farmers are rushing their cotton to market. It is bringing 110 now. J. S. Hilburn sold 12 bales last week. Mr. Redwine and James Hampton were doing business in Coalgate Saturday. Hon. George O’Neal, our representative, went to Guthrie last week to be present at the convening of the legislature. Joe Whiteside is in the cow business in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. Miss Nellie Walker has picked five and a half bales of cotton this fall. W. M. Dunn bought 350 head of good cattle from J. C. Vincent a few days ago. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- EGO NEWS - December 4 T. P. Clay went to Atoka last week. Mrs. D. S. Moran is on the sick list. J. B. Moran went to Fillmore Monday. Will Waller went to Milburn Sunday. Earnest Rounsaville has been very ill for sometime. S. B. Izard and J. S. Morgan carried corn to market Sunday. John McCoy of Fillmore was in town Thursday. S. C. Tomerlin carried hogs to Milburn Friday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- VOCA NOTES J. I. Herrin taken a load of potatoes to Lehigh last Monday returning Wednesday and report a dull market. Miss Lula Hale left for Winslow, Arkansas, last Saturday where she will visit her sister, Mrs. John Hogg. Maxey Harrell, of Ravia, was visiting his uncle, D. A. Petty and family, this and last week. W. White has moved to the Harth place. W. R. Denham will occupy the place where he formerly lived. The young people enjoyed another one of those dear old parties at G. R. Montgomery’s Friday night. Mr. and Misses Burris were visiting at Nail Saturday and Sunday. T. C. Cameron, our old friend from the Wilson neighborhood near Hunton, was in town Friday. He is preparing to leave this week for a visit to his brother in Arkansas. Deputy Sheriff W. S. Johnson arrested W. C. Sloan near Fillmore Sunday on a charge of wife whipping. The prisoner was carried to Tishomingo and placed in jail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL NEWS Arch Forgey was over from the Byrne community Monday. J. M. Dickinson has charge of the Southwestern Lumber Co. yards now. Mr. Feemster has returned to Gentry, Arkansas. Representative C. A. Skeen left Friday for Guthrie to attend the session of the legislature which convened Monday. Mattie and Cleo, little daughters of Mr. and Mrs. B L. O’Neal visited their sisters, Mrs. Johns and Mrs. Maxwell at Ardmore Sunday. Thomas Crews is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Crews. Misses Mollie and Mittie Powers are both sick with fever. Mrs. George Hughes and Mrs. Samples of Atoka, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenoa of Wapanucka, this week. Coalgate Courier E. J. Ball was at Tishomingo Saturday serving on the jury commission for Johnston County. J. M. Stewart tells the Press that he is selling out and preparing to move to West Texas soon. Mr. Stewart is a good citizen whose removal will be regretted. J. M. Burkhart and family have moved from Tupelo back to their former place west of town. Mr. Burkhart is an excellent citizen whose return to the neighborhood is welcomed by all. J. W. Phillips, who moved from here sometime last year, writes the Press from Comanche, Texas, that he is doing well and likes the country very much. J. D. Phillips his brother, is also at Comanche and doing well also. Sam Muldrow was among the many progressive Coal County farmers in town Friday. R. P. Kirkpatrick and W. A. Putman were among the crowds that came Friday from the Springbrook neighborhood. Mrs. Dollins who has been visiting her son, T. V. Dollins, the past week, returned Sunday to Ardmore her home. Editor Walter Furgerson of the El Reno American was in town several days last week visiting friends. Judge W. H. Jackson was over from Bromide Saturday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- MULBERRY GROVE - December 2 Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Goforth and family spent Thanksgiving day with Mr. and Mrs. Baker. Mrs. J. D. Epperson’s baby is still on the sick list. Rob Dupree, who has been teaching school at Sandy Creek schoolhouse, has gone to Sulphur to regain his health. The candy breaking at W. A. Baker’s Thanksgiving night was very well attended and all enjoyed themselves very much. Fate Laxton, a mine operator was shot and killed near McAlester Friday night, A nego did the shooting and escaped. Judge R. E. Campbell, judge of the United States court of the Eastern District, has appointed A. H. Constant of Ada referee in Bankruptcy for Ada district, composed of Pontotoc, Seminole, Hughes and Coal Counties and T. N. Mrs. Goff visited Mrs. Young and family up near Oconee Sunday. Prohibition prohibits those who have no money anyhow. Elmer Dickson has moved back from Oklahoma. J. D. Parmlee has rented the Anderson place. A. J. Cupp will move over on Blue. Henry Harston has rented near Belton and Mr. Gatlin is going back to Texas. George Harris is moving to Oconee. Mr. Walden, John Carter and Cope Bradshaw went on a big hunt on Blue last night. Miss Emma Chapman is visiting near Kittie this week. C. L. Waterson of Roff was here yesterday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WILSON SCHOOLHOUSE O. E. Simmons will soon move into his new house. Miss Howard of Gipson County, Tennessee, is visiting her brother, T. J. and R. B. Howard. Sam Andrews left Wednesday for Greer County. W. T. Cameron will start Monday for Little Rock, where he will go to visit relatives. Claud Chapman and family visited relatives at Springbrook Saturday. Mr. Alcron has sold out to Mr. O’Neal and will leave for Arkansas in a few days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL NEWS A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dukes, living east of town, last week. Z. Watson, the well known farmer living out on the Wright place, killed 2 pigs a few days ago which weighed 883 lbs. One of them was 17 months old and the other less than a year old. He has five others which he expects to make weight 500 each. This is the sort of farming that pays. A R. Field of Chalk, Texas, was here Saturday. He use to live at Ego. N. Snider of Ego has moved to Paducah, Texas. Mr. Snider is a splendid man and his removal is a loss to the community. Mayor Shearrer of Tishomingo was in town Sunday. H. C. Stone, one of the substantial farmers of the Wapanucka section living out near Bromide, tells the Press that he has already broke a lot of land for the next years crop. He breaks the land in the fall and he always come up with a good crop. Here’s an example that every farmer should follow. Start the plows and start them now right behind the harvest hands. Thomas Dick, a Choctaw living near Wapanucka, has had his restrictions removed. Tomie Skeen left Wednesday of last week for Gutherie where he has received an appointment as a page in the House of Representatives. A G. Summerfield, formerly of Wapanucka but connected with the First National Bank at Tishomingo the past year, has gone to Lawton to assume the cashiership of the First National Bank at that place. William Billis, a well known Indian character, was hauled up before Justice Keller Saturday on a charge of swipping a pair of shoes about two weeks ago from the Racket Store. He was found guilty and fined $10 and cost. County Attorney Ratliff was here and conducted the case for the state. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- EGO NEWS - December 11 Messrs. S. C. and W. T. Tomerlin, T. O. and N. Snider started to western Texas Friday where they intend to make their home for some time. Miss Ruby Phipps is on the sick list. Charles Golden has moved to Ego. Frank Melton and daughter, have returned from Asher. Willie Wolf and Zeph Cregg visited Mr. and Mrs. Robinson last week. T. F. and Tom Owens, Joe Jones and Ed Medearis carried hogs to Caddo Wednesday. Mrs. Stroud has moved on to D. S. Moran’s farm. S. B. Izard made a business trip to Loan Grove Thursday. J. D. E. Hale and Elmer Walden made a business trip to Atoka Thursday, Mr. Hale having purchased the Walden place. Mr. Walter Jackson and Miss Alice Griffin were united in the bonds of matrimony last Sunday. We feel sure the Press will join their many friends in wishing them a happy future. J. I. Herrin went to Nail on business Thursday returning Saturday. G. R. Montgomery has gone to Durant on business this week. Our constable, A. W. Jackson, has been making the bootleggers take to the high weeds. J. A. Harmon Walton cut his foot quite badly a few days ago. Grandma Snider is gaining slowly from a sick spell. She is at the home of her son, Mr. Drain. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Epperson went on a business trip to Ego Friday. Mr. Swader moved last week and Mr. Tate of Bromide will move to the place vacated by Mr. Swader. Mrs. August Remmeit and children have returned home after a few weeks visit in Missouri. Representative Skeen came down from Guthrie Saturday and spent a day with homefolks. The Press understands that I. A. Humbart, the well known farmer living on the Ream farm, is preparing to move to Randolph. W. M. Cole and J. M. Stewart are to leave in a few days for Childress, Texas. Here are tow good citizens whose removal will be a loss to our community. W. J. Foster was over from Springbrook Saturday. C. D. Price and P. Maples, prosperous farmers of the Ego community, were in town Saturday. O. W. Feemster has returned form Gentry, Arkansas, and resumed the management of the Southwestern Lumber Co. W. P. Putman was among those who came to town Saturday from Springbrook. L. W. Cornelius one of the leading farmers of the Ego community brought cotton to market Saturday. Joe Stephens, who once worked here in the office of the Rock Island, died at his old home in Tennessee last week. He had been in bad health for several years. J. W. Hyatt, of Jesse, died as a result of injuries received in a runaway. He leaves a wido and seven children. Mrs. J. R. Smith of Rockey Ford, Colorado, came Tuesday to spend Christmas with her father, E. J. Ball. V. C. Troutt is preparing to move to Butler, Oklahoma. Mr. Troutt is a good citizen and his friends regret to see him leave. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TWO KILLINGS AT ALDERSON McAlester, December 15 – Two killings at Alderson at an early hour this morning, make fourteen in Pittsburg County since the advent of statehood. Shortly after midnight Frank Donnatelli, Guy Donnatelli, brothers, and Joe Pedro left Alderson to go to their homes at a mine about two miles north. It is alleged they fired their pistols and in a clash with officers Frank Donnatelli and Joe Pedro were instantly killed, each being shot three times, and Guy Donnatelli was also shot three times, once through the abdomen, and is dying, There is much excitement in the mining regions of the county, where nearly all the miners are Italians and Polanders. The officers were placed under arrest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- R. C. Howell and family who have been living at Lawton the past year have returned to live at Wapanucka. Their many friends here are glad to welcome them back. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROW ENDS FATALLY McAlester, December 14 Three Mexicans attacked Tobe Mackie, as son of Indian Judge Sol Mackie, with knives at Savannah. They cut him so severely that it was not believed he could live. He is in a hospital. When his brother, Dave came to his assistance the Mexicans turned on him. One of them was killed, another was shot severely and the other fled. Dave Mackie was brought to the County Court and placed under bond. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL NEWS Miss Pearl Criswell, who is working in the telephone exchange at Tishomingo was visiting Mrs. Ross here this week. On Wednesday night of last week Miss Ada Attaway entertained a number of friends in honor of her 18th birthday. Those present were: Misses Morton Roxie Ball, Pearl and Maud Beasley, Inez Williamson, Alta Attaway; Messers. E.A. Durham, Jack Nixon, Claud O’Neal, Dr. Renegar, Will Walton and Henry Channell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPRINGBROOK SAYINGS Dr. Muncrief has moved on his new place and his wife presented him a find boy to help him improve his farm. Rev. McCuchen has a fine girl at his home. Joe Reed who has been living at Jesse has moved back here and he has a fine new bay at his house. Loss Jenkins has a fine girl at his house. Joe Chapman is all smiles over the arrival of another boy, Thieves stole a fine mare from A. J. Addington Saturday night. He has put out a $25. reward for recovery. It is a gray mare, 9 years old, 15 or 15 1/2 hands high, left ear split, wire cut across breast and between hind legs, good saddler, trotter and pacer. ============================================================================= The Wapanucka Press, 26 December 1907 KITTIE NEWS R. M. Schmelzer returned from Roswell, New Mexico Saturday. He has been gone for several months and seems glad to be home again. Mrs. Barnet returned Thursday from Dallas where she had an operation on her eyes. She is now able to read with one eye but another operation upon the other eye will be necessary. Miss Cena Muldrow visited in Kittie last Wednesday. Louis O’Neal has moved to the farm vacated by Mr. Murphy. Rev. Kennedy of Coalgate will preach at Wilson Schoolhouse the first Sunday in January both morning and evening; also Friday and Saturday preceding. Mr. Clifford left Wednesday for North Carolina to spend the holidays with his mother who he has not seen for twenty seven years. Mr. Davis’s son from Denison is here on a visit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WORCESTER NOTES Some of the Worcester people went to Cope to bury Billy Carney, an aged Chickasaw, who died on the 27th. He was 59 years old. Dolly Durant is on the sick list. Eloise James and Mamie Worcester came home from school for the holidays. Also Gov. Mosley’s children came home to spend Christmas with their parents. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOWN JAIL BURNS DOWN The Wapanucka corporation jail burned to the ground early Tuesday morning. A prisoner by the name of Williford from down about Fillmore was in the jail and for a time it was thought that he had burned with the building but it later developed that he had escaped sometime before the fire. The loss to the town is estimated to be about $250. It is not known how the fire originated but believed to be the work of some one assisting the prisoner in his escape. Something is expected to develop soon which will result in trouble for somebody. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRAIRIE POINT I. G. Hall, J. E. Harris and Miss Maggie Harris took the train for Alando, New Mexico, Friday where they will spend a few days. V. C. Trawtle and sons, George and Silas, left last week for Butler where they will make their future home. I C. Jones is preparing to move to Panhandle, Texas, where he will reside the next year. We understand Mr. Willeford has moved where Silas Troutt lived. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- OCONEE ITEMS W,. M. Dunn has opened a lane from Wilson school house to Kittie, a distance of two miles. Robert Henderson and Pete Mason were in Coalgate Saturday. Fines for whooping on the streets opened up at $15 each in Justice Court. Otto Miles was the first victim. J. R. Dodd has bought an interest in Hampton’s store. John Armstrong is back from Texas. Mr. Johnson went to Howe to get his mules that were stolen sometime ago. However when he got there the mules being held proved to not be those of his. W. P. Jamison is having quite a lot of improvements on his place in the way of building barns. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- POST OFFICE ROBBED Sulphur, December 19 Experts blew the door of the post office safe off its hinges last night and secured about $600 in cash, two hundred in paid money orders and all registered letters. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOSTER – CUMMINGS At the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Cummings at Bromide, last Sunday afternoon, at the hour of 3 o’clock, W. P. Foster of Milburn, led to the marriage alter, Miss Essie Cummings, Rev. L. M. Chisholm of Tishomingo, receiving the vows that made the happy couple man and wife. The bride is one of the popular young ladies of Bromide, while the groom is a prosperous business man residing at Milburn. Copeland is here this week from Bradley. G. C. Duke is preparing to move to Texas this week. He is a good man and his friends here regret to see him leave. Miss Cora Skeen attended the Bryan Dollar Dinnere at Guthrie Saturday evening. Representative Skeen came home Sunday and will remain until after the holidays. W. L. Lawler and sister, Miss Florence, of Greenville, Texas, are here to spend Christmas with their sisters, Mrs. S. L. Barnes and Mrs. W. B. Reeves. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Warren are the parents of a new boy. A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Pink Barton last week. J. W. Justis of Springbrook was looking after business matters in town Friday. Mrs. R. L. Britt has gone to Montgomery, Missouri to spend the holidays with her parents. J. W. Crowell, our good friend who lives out east was in town Tuesday for the firs time since summer. He has been in bad health and not able to get around much. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WEDDING OF INTEREST At 9 o’clock Tuesday evening, at Bonnie Hill Cottage, the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Wallace, Miss Jeannie Wallace and Mr. G. L. Snedden, of Coalgate, were united in marriage. Rev. Mosely, of Coalgate, received the vows that made them man and wife. The occasion, a pretty home wedding, was witnessed by numerous relatives and friends of the bride and groom. Those present were: Mrs. Snedden, Robert Laramore and wife, John Snedden and wife, John Jacobs and wife, Richard Brown and wife, James Stunage and wife, Robert Crawford, Thomas Carr and wife, Dan McLaughilin and wife, James Snedden, Charles Jones , Misses Annie and Jennie Snedden, John Duncan and wife, Tom Scott and wife, of Coalgate; E. J. Ball, Mrs. James Smith, Misses Lula, Nova and Neta Ball, Robert Howell and wife of Wapanucka; Dr. R. Sullivan and wife of Boggy Depot. After the ceremony, a luncheon was served and a reception tendered. The bride is a charming young lady and greatly admired among a wide circle of friends here, whose sincere good wishes go with the happy couple. Wells has been moving his corn to Nail. Lee Hogg as in town Friday looking for two of his dogs that left him Thursday. Mr. Wall, of Greenville, Texas, is visiting his brother, P. K. Wall, here. Two of D. A. Petty’s daughters passed through town Monday on their way home from Ravia. A. J. Lane was over from Springbrook Monday. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Riner, W. T. More and others were down from near Kittie Monday. Miss Mattie Greenwood was among the Christmas shoppers in town Monday from Bromide. Rev. D. A. Russell was among the many who came to town Monday from Bromide. Dora Pearrigen who is attending school at Belton, Texas, writes that Rev. Holland and family have moved from there to South Carolina. C. Q. Moore has moved to Wardville north of Coalgate. C. W. Howell left Tuesday for a trip to West Texas where he has some lands. On the way he will stop over at McLoud and visit a day with his sister. J. D. Dumas was over from Ego Monday. Mr. Wesley Cummings of Mississippi is here visiting his brother, D. J. Cummings at Bomide.
