All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--Vega TX Elmer Ayres VEGA - Elmer Ayres, 97, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Vega Church of Christ with Dean Whaley Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Boxwell Brothers of Vega. Mr. Ayres was born in Connerville, Okla., (Indian Territory). He moved to Gruver in the 1920s, to a ranch southwest of Wildorado in 1949 and to Vega in 1963. Mr. Ayres was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He married his wife, Ada, more than 60 years ago. He was a Christian and loved his Lord. Elmer was a retired cowman. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, farming and was an avid baseball/football player and fan. Mr. Ayres was a retired veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines with the Navy. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lee J. Ayres of Amarillo and Bob Ayres of Vega; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118. The body will be available for viewing from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
