Beatrice Kirby passed away peacefully on December 28, 2002. Bea was born on August 10, 1915 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. She was the youngest and sole survivor of eight children born to Samuel and Mandy Ellen Kirby. She lived for over 53 years of her life in Capitol Hill. In 1988 she retired from OKC Public Schools after working 34 years as a cafeteria worker and manager. She loved cooking for children and many remember her cinnamon rolls at Capitol Hill High School. On January 14, 1933, Beatrice eloped with Porter M. Craig, the love of her life. They enjoyed 33 years together before Porter's death in 1966. Besides Porter and her parents, Beatrice was preceded in death by daughter, Betty, five brothers-George, John, Jake, Dobe, and Silas Kirby and two sisters, Della Dobson and Alma Johnston. Two sons and one daughter and their spouses survive her. They are Jim and Charolette Craig, Joe and Mary Craig, and John and Judith Craig Beaty. She was blessed with four granddaughters and three great grandchildren. They are Kristi Craig, Debbie and husband Tom Taylor, Donna and husband Larry Chumley and Kathy and husband Kevin Ellis. Her great grandchildren are Ashley and Adam Taylor and Joel Chumley. The extended immediate families of her husband also survive Beatrice. They are Wayne and June Craig, Robert and Necha Craig, Pauline Craig Whitaker, Norma Craig, and Jo Leta Craig as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff members of Mercy Hospital and the Fountains of Canterbury who cared for our lovely mother. Services will be held Tuesday at the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary at 10:00 am with interment at Sunny Lane Cemetery, 3900 SE 29th. Mama will be dearly missed by all of us as now she is in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. VONDEL L.
