James was born in Mansville, Oklahoma on June 23, 1911. Originally a farmer, James brought his family to California 1945. Mr. Dudley worked for the Veteran's home in Yountville, California for 28 years holding several positions and retiring as an automotive equipment operator. James and his wife Ruth retired to Magalia in 1980 and later made Paradise their home until April of 2006 when they moved into a special grandparents unit their granddaughter built onto her home in Weed, California. James was active with the Paradise Pines Gleaners and belonged to the Senior Association. James enjoyed the company and conversation of his friends at the senior lunches. James was an avid gardener and loved nature. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Alisa Ryan Emerson. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruth Dudley as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Treva and Ron Barber, grand-daughter Sher Barber, great-grandchildren Teryl Miller, Rondal Ryan, Sean Julian and Aileenia Julian, and great-great-grandchildren Christen Miller and Sean Miller. Recently, to his grandchildren he was referred to as the "quarter man" because he spent the last 7 years building each child a book of the State Quarters. 42 books were made in all, with the remaining 9 quarters to be filled in by the recipient. He will be remembered as a strong and capable man who loved his family deeply, cherished his daughter and grandchildren and adored his wife. Per James' wishes, no services will be held.
