All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Stephens Cemetery--Clayton OK Durant Daily Democrat 21 Jan 2005 Helen Hooser, 83 A service for Helen Hooser, 83, Durant, who died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Durant. Rev. Gerald Tidwell and Rev. James Robinson will officiate. She was born in Mannsville Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1921, to Charles Valentine and Leila Mae (Peterman) Woolard. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant. She went to the Tishomingo schools and was valedictorian of her class. She also attended Murray State College of Agriculture in Tishomingo, A&M College in Stillwater and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. She worked as a nurse and lab technician in an Antlers hospital from 1945-1955, a nurse and lab technician in the Engles Clinic in Durant from 1959-1975 and became a full-time outstanding watercolor artist after 1975. Her artwork was featured in the first edition (1970) of the Oklahoma Art Gallery magazine in the "Art Gallery" section, 1979 North Light Magazine as "Member of the Issue" and 1987 Southwest Art - Profile - an Artist Directory of Watercolor Art. She was received more than 250 awards including several "Best of Show" and Artists Choice awards as well as numerous first, second and third place awards and honorable mentions. She had taught watercolor classes in the Continuing Education Department of Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She married Ernest Hooser Sept. 21, 1940, in Tishomingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Juanita Carr and Eugenia Jones and brother Charles Woolard. She is survived by her husband, of the home; son Carl Hooser and wife LouAnn, McAlester; daughter Patricia Ann Morgan and husband Leonard, Durant; grandchildren Leiann Bahe and husband Tim, Plano, Texas, Layne Morgan and wife Pam, Durant, and Leslie Prentice and husband Walter, Bokchito; great-grandchildren Dillon Bahe and Madison Bahe, Plano, Alysse Morgan and Ashley Morgan, Durant, Katheryn Prentice and Kaitlyn Prentice, Bokchito, and Melissa Prentice, Durant; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Stephens Cemetery, Clayton, with Wendle Peoples, Everett McGuire, Bill Brown, Jack Treat, Jim Peddy, Kenny Day, Alfred Wheeler and Joe Black serving as pallbearers. Family hour will be today from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
