Mayo and mother of Pamela A. Kerr, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at her home, following a courageous struggle with cancer. Wanza was born December 17, 1915 in Wapanucka, Ok. to Rodham Forrest & Sallie Corrine (Epperson) Jones. The Jones family had moved to Boggy Depot, Indian Territory in 1871. Rodham & Sallie were married May 31, 1903. They had 3 children, Wanza, Hiram F. & Herman. Both brothers preceded Wanza in death. She attended Spring Valley School on Deyo Mission Road and Lawton High School. She was employed at C.R. Anthony's in Lawton when she met and married Perry F. May on June 2, 1949. Her life was centered around her family, giving her time and energy to Cub Scouts as a den mother for her son, Lyle D. Peters, who preceded her in death. She was also active in PTA as president at Eisenhower Elementary in the early 1970s while Pamela attended school there. She was always willing to attend any events her children and grandchildren were involved in. All children who knew her called her "Grandma." She was always cheerful and ready to laugh at the children's stories. All who knew her loved her. Wanza was a member of the Choctaw Tribe and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband, Perry; her daughter, Pamela; her grandchildren, Alexis & Christina Romeros, & Doug Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lawton Area, Inc., PO Box 2074, Lawton, Ok. 73502 or Cleo Craig Memorial Cancer Foundation, PO Box 489, Lawton, Ok. 73502. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 19th at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lawton with Rev. James P. Holley, Chaplain of Hospice of Lawton Area, officiating. Burial will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
