Nelson died Feb. 8, 2003, in Blackwell. He was 89. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City with the Rev. Rick Hughes of Victory Tabernacle officiating. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home of Tonkawa. Alfred A. Nelson was born on Oct. 6, 1913, in Burbank, OK. the son of George Nelson and Ethel Pruett Nelson. At one time he lived on the 101 Ranch grounds with his family. They also lived in Winfield, Kan. for several years. He joined the Army Air Force in March of l942 and served at Bassing Bourne Air Field in England, where his job was to load bombs onto B17s. After the service he returned to Ponca City and was employed at Conoco in l945, retiring in 1978. In 1950 he married Lucille Bloxsom. He enjoyed his family and fishing. Survivors include two sons, Larry Nelson and Bob Simmons, both of Ponca City, four daughters, Kathy Griffith of Tonkawa, Ethel Gregory of Ponca City, Barbara Gzapansky of Chelsea and Jennie Parks of Ponca City; a sister, Elnor Hendricks of Blackwell, 24 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 17, 1965, his parents, three brothers, George Nelson, Carl Nelson and John Nelson, two infant sisters, and two great-great-granddaughters.
