All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Santa Rosa Memorial Park--Windsor CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on March 15, 1997 GERTHA BROWN Gertha Belle Brown, a retired educator, died Tuesday at her Santa Rosa home. She was 89. Born in Newkirk, Okla., she moved to Sonoma County from Lafayette 28 years ago. Brown retired about 1972 as an audio-visual library administrator. Her education career in Contra Costa County spanned 35 years. She enjoyed volunteer work, serving with the Sonoma County Council on Aging and the American Association of Retired Persons. She also was a member of the California Retired Teachers' Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the director of the Family History Center for the church. Brown also was an excellent seamstress. She liked to travel and visit her cabin in the redwoods of the Russian River. Her family said she was excited about life and had something positive to say about everybody. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Reuel Brown of Santa Rosa; daughters, Elizabeth Gerber of Boise, Idaho, and Leona Ann Garcia of Carpenteria; son, Don McKinney of Santa Rosa; sister, Audrey Silva of Paradise; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Friends may visit from 1 to 2 p.m. today in the Relief Society Room at the Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1725 Petersen Lane, Santa Rosa.
