'Poppy' Cain Donnel C. "Poppy" Cain, 74, died Tuesday, May 6, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Memorial Chapel Funeral Chapel in Noble with the Rev. Bob Langston officiating. Burial will be at the Noble IOOF Cemetery. Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Cain was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Braman, to N.F. and Olive (Cross) Cain. He graduated from Braman High School and attended Oklahoma City University. He enlisted in the Air Force Jan. 9, 1947. He served as sergeant while stationed in Japan. He received an honorable discharge Jan. 8, 1950. He then enlisted in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of master sergeant. Mr. Cain was honorably discharged July 25, 1963. He married Jeanette Goad on Jan. 21, 1950, in Oklahoma City. They moved to Noble from Del City in 1961. Mr. Cain worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 25 years before retiring in 1987. He and his wife owned and operated Cain's Fountain and Grill in Noble for 13 years. Mr. Cain was an active member of the Noble United Methodist Church, president of the EMS Board of Noble and a former Noble City Council member. He enjoyed announcing rodeos and bowling. Mr. Cain is survived by his wife, Jeanette of the home; daughter, Teresa Walters and Debbie Lowery of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Jenny Walters of Edmond; sisters, Lenora Poland, Dorothy Kelsey and Verda Jackson; brothers, Melvin and Frosty Cain; nephew, Butch and Susan Gee of Norman; niece, Carol and Bill Judd of Midwest City; and many other family members and friends. Bearers will be Kevin Austin, Terry Schat, Butch Gee, Jamie Stufflebean, Bill Judd and Mike Rogers. Honorary bearers will be Nona Owensby, Nolan, Rusty and Rick Grissom, Albert Baden, Francis Knapp and Sendy Sanders.
