Funeral services were Monday April 5, 1999 at 10 am at the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church, Arkansas City. Reverend Rick Williams officiated. Interment was at Parker Cemetery, Arkansas City. Clarence was born December 6, 1913 in Kay County to Henry D. and Anna S. (Antholz) Merz. He grew up and attended Grant School in Newkirk and married Opal Evelyn Stigleman on July 20, 1933. He worked as a farmer and carpenter for all his life. Clarence and Opal moved to Cedarvale in 1944, and in 1970 then they moved to Arkansas City. He was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Opal Evelyn, Arkansas City; three sons, Allen Ray Merz, Arkansas City, Everett Lee Merz, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Leon Max Merz, Arkansas City; one daughter, Marie Ann (Merz) Norton, College Station, Texas; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one niece, and five nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Henry D. and Anna Merz; one son, Clarence E. Merz; three brothers, Lundy, Fred, and Walter; one grandson, Lance Merz and one nephew, Dean Merz. A memorial was established with Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church. Contributions may be made throught the church.
